A good All Hallow´s Eve to you all !

Welcome, my fellow ghosts and ghouls, vampires, zombies and other creatures of the night. As you can see the blog has changed it´s appearance due to the upcoming frightful festivities like Devil´s Night, All Hallow´s Eve and El Dia de los Muertos.

I also changed the usual header for the black one I did last year ( or the year before ) especially for the Halloween post. I had thought about using it for BLACKEST NIGHT but then I would have had to change the pictures for dead DC guys and that was a bit too work intensive than I had planned.

I just hope I can get the old look back because the template I used is not on blogger anymore. Well, if I can´t get the old look back that´s also okay since I have had this look for almost five years now. It´s about time for a facelift.

Since I have already done posts on hot horror hotties , HORRORSCHOCKER , Krabat , the DARKNESS and DYLAN DOG , Richard Corben´s HAUNT OF FEAR : EDGAR ALLEN POE , Richard Corben´s HELLBOY IN MEXICO and part 1 , part 2 and part 3 of my ELVIRA posts this time I want to spotlight 2 comics that are guaranteed to give you goosebumps. My version of a grindhoouse horror movie double feature.

We got superheroes meeting classic movie monsters, modern movie monsters and witches and even the old crooked man himself. So if you are not going to spend Halloween watching the horror trash movie GUARDIAN OF THE ABYSS, presented by Elvira ( link in part 3 of the ELVIRA posts ) herself, like yours truly you might want to pull up a comfortable chair, put some horror movie soundtrack on your mp3 player and immerse yourself in one of the following comics.

BATMAN THE UNSEEN - writen by Doug Moench and illustrated by Kelley Jones

Back when horror movies began there was no distinction between horror and science fiction movies because many horror movies could be labeled as " science gone wrong ". Some of the all time classic horror movies like DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, FRANKENSTEIN or X : THE MAN WITH THE X RAY EYES are science based so it´s not surprising that my first tipp deals with another science based horror classic : THE INVISIBLE MAN. It´s one of works of fiction in pop culture with the most movie adaptions from straight horror to comedies. I mean, who hasn´t at one point in his life dreamt of being invisible ?

In this particular horror / superhero crossover it´s BATMAN VS THE INVISIBLE MAN courtesy of Kelley Jones, artist of the wildly successful GOTHAM AFTER MIDNIGHT and writer Doug Moench who penned more than one Bat - tale in his days.

Batman has always been a superhero who could function in almost any other genre, especially in the horror genre, keeping in mind that he walks around in one big fright mask and his usual modus operandi is to scare the living s - word out of the criminals. And a lot of his rogues could star in their own horror movie like KILLER CROC, SCARECROW, the MAD HATTER, MR. FREEZE or MAN - BAT.

Like Norm Breyfogle Kelley Jones is one of the best Batman artists because he can emphasize the horror elements of the character. In BATMAN THE UNSEEN, a five part miniseries, we find a " lost tale of Bruce Wayne as Batman ". Like I said when I first mentioned the series we will be reading more of theses now that they have wasted the O.B. - original Batman. Or better yet, now that they have wasted the O.B., and made him come back through the centuries. I tell you, just writing about it gives me a headache so I´m glad that none of this is mentioned in BATMAN THE UNSEEN.

You don´t have to dive into this particular snakepit to enjoy it. And it got all the ingredients to be enjoyed as it includes the usual murder misteries, a mad scientist who wants his revenge for always being overlooked ( the other meaning of being unseen ), Black Mask and his goons....in short a Batman story like it is supposed to be. The including of Doug Moench´s creation Black Mask also brings the whole topic of masks into the mix which fits the whole Halloween theme. Add to that Kelley Jones always stunning art that seems to lead you directly into the set of a classic crime fiction / horror movie and you have what I call an instant classic.

What I found a bit strange while reading various reviews was how often the words " old school " and " Silver Age " were used. What does it say about the current state of the Batfranchise that the only thing to compare a Batman story that´s well done are the tales of a time long ago ?

Being just a five issue miniseries it is sadly much shorter than GOTHAM AFTER MIDNIGHT but for more Kelley Jones on Batman check out his work on the Kevin Shinick penned JOKER´S ASYLUM II : CLAYFACE. It´s a tale of Basil Karlo, horror movie actor who became a real claymonster.

I hope DC keeps Kelley Jones on the creative roster for such special projects as they don´t seem too keen on offering him a regular book. Which doesn´t surprise me that much when I think about the negative reaction he got here in Germany when last he took over a Bat - title.

HELLBOY - THE CROOKED MAN and OTHERS - written by Mike Mignola and Josh Dysart illustrated by Richard Corben, Mike Mignola, Duncan Fegredo and Jason Shawn Alexander

In my post about HELLBOY IN MEXICO I initially also wanted to write about the 3 issue miniseries THE CROOKED MAN. But like always once I got started the post was more about 80s superhero comics and mexican luchadores than Hellboy. I knew back then that I had to revisit the subject and what better time than for Halloween.

Since I had missed the single issues I had to get the trade that also includes some other stories, and while they are all nice and okay the real reason I bought it is the part with Richard Corben. Let´s be realists. So I´ll keep my comments to that part of the trade. That said, the art by Richard Corben alone is worth the price of admission.

In the Eisner Award - winning miniseries THE CROOKED MAN we, once again, travel to another scenery - one of the staples of the HELLBOY series. But this time it´s the american countryside and Hellboy has to deal with opponents rooted in american folklore, a theme often neglected on the series in favor of more exotic locales. At least for american readers.

One of the inspirations for Tom Ferrell - Hellboy´s partner in this story about witches, devils and the dead rising - was Manly Wade Wellman´s character Silver John, a.k.a. John the Balladeer, the wandering backwoods minstrel with a silver-stringed guitar.

I have to say I thought to be well versed in famous horror novel writers but I wasn´t aware of this forgotten pioneer of horror who also wrote science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, detective fiction, western fiction, juvenile fiction and non-fiction. And I have to say kudos to his Dad for having the cojones to name his son " Manly " as a first name.

What I liked about this comic is that it manages to cram more action, backstory and stuff about witches and deals made with the devil into three issues than you can find in your usual six issue superhero trade. And the last stand in an abandoned church surrounded by witches and dead corpses is just right up my alley - especially now on Halloween.

Hellboy´s future is also hinted at, one of the things that is also mentioned constantly in the series, and I guess the exciting part is finding out if Mike Mignola really is going to turn Hellboy into the demon that destroys earth.

While this may not be a story filled with shocking twists and turns, it's an engaging tale about temptation and sin, a captivating battle of wills between man, god, and the devil.

And what makes this battle work so well is that the struggle takes place on the grungy Earth, in the Appalachian mountains, circa 1958. This isn't Southern Gothic, it's Backwoods Hillbilly Gothic, and that's a whole lot more disturbing.

There are - of course - more stories in the trade like THE MOLE with art by Duncan Fegredo ( which was first printed in the FREE COMIC BOOK DAY issue ) and IN THE CHAPEL OF MOLOCH that features art by Mike Mignola himself. All in all a really well rounded trade and while I mainly bought it for the Richard Corben part the rest´s not half bad either.

Like with BATMAN THE UNSEEN, if these three issues don´t satisfy your appettite for Richard Corben doing Hellboy, there will be some upcoming issues down the road. And if you haven´t already go and get yourself a copy of THE BRIDE OF HELL, which will be the topic of another post on this very blog.

And that´s all for Today. Initially I wanted to include two more comics but maybe I should give them a post of their own. Till then, happy trick or treating and a joyous Sammhain !

A letter from my timelost self

I´m still working on my KANE post. It´s incredible how - whenever I try to write about a certain subject - other things get in the way.

At least I finally managed to finish my COMICBABE BATTLE post about the FIGHTING FEMMES of videogames. As it´s going to be a few weeks till I can do the next installment I´m open to readers requests.

Now the reason for this post is on one side to bridge the time between the COMICBABE BATTLE post and the KANE post. And there are a few things I don´t want to add to the old posts because I don´t want them to be overlooked by my readers. So it´s the usual collection of random coolness that you have grown accustumed to at this blog.

GET YOUR GEEK ON

Over at ComicGeekSpeak there are some new interesting shows online. If you are a regular listener you probably check them out through the link in my blogroll but if like me, you go months without checking in on them you might miss out on a few interesting episodes. I wanted to burn the new episodes on a CD till I remembered that I had already used up all of them to get more free space on the computer. Then I tried to put them on my USB stick but I pulled out the mouse from the USB slot and because I thought there was a computer malfunction I restarted the computer. Which is the reason I had to start this post from scratch. Anyway, somehow I remembered that I could just upload them on my mp3 player which I then did. So here´s my selection of episodes :

First up - and most important - is the new interview with Bob Layton inker, artist, writer, editor, etc. I mean is there anything the man hasn´t done ? He´s like the Forrest Gump of comics. Not only did he work for DC and Marvel, where he was part of THE most influential IRON MAN story of them all. His runs on the character are counted to the definite stories of IRON MAN and Bob Layton as the definite IRON MAN artist.

I know that he was in most good stories I read like the very first spanish ones I had. Aside from that he was one of the founders of VALIANT and later on FUTURE COMICS. FUTURE COMICS had to fold but I got a few issues of them. VALIANT also has met it´s demise but after a very long publishing career giving us such unparallelled classics like X - O WANOWAR ( the better IRON MAN comic at that time ) or QUANTUM & WOODY. From that excerpt alone you should know that this is one guy who has a lot to tell.

For more details about his impressive career check out his wiki page and for everything else go to the official website

Another of comics greats is Jeff Smith who joins the geekspeakers for the Book of the Month review of BONE Volume 1. I had the distinctive pleasure to meet Jeff at a signing in Erlangen and I have to say he´s much mor modest and nice as you would expect from such a superstar.

Another inker on the show is Mark McKenna who´s been in the business for 24 years. You can also get more info on his website. And you should get a kick out of 1000 Comic Books You Must Read with Tony Isabella, the spotlight on the Punisher , spotlight on Hawkman and Hawkgirl and spotlight on Aquaman .

Halloween is soon coming up and as I don´t know if I´m going to be able to post an adequate topic till then here are a few things to get you in the mood. One of the Book of the Month reviews is Kraven´s Last Hunt one of THE best Spider - Man stories ever written that fits right in with the ghastly Halloween mood. Lots of spiders, the ratlike Vermin, the black costume, a psychopatic Kraven and one of the best buried - alive scenes of comics. If you haven´t read this comic - get it for Halloween. You should be able to get a cheap copy from your local comicshop.

Other shows that tie in with the Halloween theme are a conversation with Abnett and Lanning who wrote the really creepy RESURRECTION MAN for DC, the list of the Top Five comic monsters , a conversation with HACK / SLASH´s Tim Seeley and BRPD´s Guy Davis . I hope the HULK is included in the Top Five comic monsters list, if not here´s an episode about everything HULK . It´s weird how the title has gone from one of the best to what it is Today. On Monday I was flipping through Walter Simonson´s Thor where the story with Odin´s floating eye was mentioned. So I thought of rereading my old BIBLIOTEKA MARVEL issues of THOR with that storyline.

To get them out I had to pull out the HULK issues which I began to filp through and then read a bit here and there. The issues had such great art by SalBuscema and Ernie Chan ( much of the stuff was never printed in Germany ) and was written so good and poetic that an hour went by before I realized it. When I finally got the THOR issues out they were rather boring compared to the HULK stuff - so I decided to re - read the HULK issues instead.

Comics really were different back then, much more like literature. And more stuff happend in one issue. If you don´t believe me just read issue 217 THE CIRCUS OF LOST SOULS. All the things that happen in this issue would take up at least three issues if if was published now. And what a great finale :

After these words the brute and the siren are engulfed by a voracious wave that brusquely rips Meriam from the arms of Hulk. And with the groundswell Hulk is once again alone.

He stays a while contemplating the ocean. Later he turns and walks on the beach, leaving only his wet footprints behind him which are swept away in no time at all.

In the end only the sea is eternal.

Again website links for Tim Seeley on Deviantart and the official Guy Davis website .

CONVOLUTED COMICS HISTORY

Comics can sometimes be complicated for outsiders, a fact that I´m always aware of whenever I talk comics with my sister who´s not such an avid comic reader. There are cases where the changing roster of writers trying to out - retcon themselves can lead to contradictory results. And even such " problem solvers " like CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS or ZERO HOUR can be the proverbial cures that are worse than the illness in itself.

But thanks to writer Curt Franklin and artist Chris Haley of the inimitable superhero webcomic " LET´S BE FRIENDS AGAIN " you can read various difficult examples in entertaining and funny shorthand. First up is the history of Aquaman explained ( since I already posted the link to the ComicGeekSpeak episode ) followed by other brainwreckers like Hawkman, Hank Pym, Rachel Summers and - the worst of them all - Xorn. Enjoy them !

HALLOWEEN HORROR MOVIE EXTRAVAGANZA

Another way to get into the right Halloween mood is to read POSTMODERNBARNEY´s rundown of horror movies that range from the best to the worst. Really interesting reading, and like Mike Sterling ( on whose wonderful site I found the original link ) I have seen far too many of the bad ones. Although I´m not ashamed to admit it since I prefer a good trashmovie over the newest arthouse midlife - crisis - of - the - month - movie. And yes, I have also seen waay to many of those.

RETURN TO SENDER

I already mentioned that I did a course that has finished this month. During the first month we did a few strange exercises which also included writing a letter to our future self. For most participants this was a strange concept but as an experienced comic reader I tried to do my best. As we were allowed to include anything we wanted I sent myself ten bucks since I knew that I could put it to good comic use in the future.

As the letter talks a bit about what I expected to do comicwise I thought it might be interesting to include it here.

Hello SUBZERO,

I hope you´re still alive. Now that it´s two weeks since GALA ( the name of the course ) ist over the ominous letter finally has arrived. I´m not expecting any miracles so I don´t expect you to have a job. If you do - super.

You probably didn´t go to Barcelona nor Erlangen, and if you went to Erlangen it probably was with the guys from Splashpages. If you really managed to do the interview with Oscar Jimenez - tell me how it was.

I hope you managed to keep up the translations of HORST. Do you have enough to put it on the spanish website ? I hope HORST is conquering the world.

With a bit of luck you are right now enjoying your own room - if not I wish you a lot of fun cleaning it up.....bwahahaha. Since you probably have more time now I hope you are writing regularly on your blog.

Healthwise I hope your shoulder is better. And I hope the vegetable diet has lead to some success. Don´t give up, dude.

It´s always strange to receive a letter from yourself - unless there´s some money included. Now that I mention it.....the ten bucks are for comics. Since half a year has passed Arthur Adams should be still working on ULTIMATE X. If not I´m sure you´ll find some use for it.

This weekend the big fight with XXXXXXX went down so I hope you have told him you´re sorry already. You probably bought ULTIMATES 2 and then kept it yourself. Or you ordered the COMPLETE EDITION. In any case, I hope that did work out.

Before writing this I managed to get a copy of the HEAVY METAL issue with your translation of VODOO DERIVATE. With a bit of luck you have gotten some money for that and the follow up STARCHILD ( or CHILD OF THE STARS depending on which title they decided on ) has seen print. It would be nice you you could get more of that.

Apart from that it´s probably about time to make plans for the COMIC ACTION since you probably haven´t been to Spain this year. I would really like to participate in the SCHWARZER TURM bootcamp again.

Furthermore your brother hasn´t stopped with his plans how you can " make a name for yourself in the german comic scene " if I know him right. Hopefully he´s not too obnoxious.

However life is treating you right now always remember Thor´s motto : I will never surrender or yield to despair.

Greetings from your past self, SUBZERO

P.S.: If you are a podperson, a clone or my evil self from a parallel dimension : I hope you are taking good care of my comics and stuff. Good luck with your plans for world domination - you loser ! Bwahahaha ! And for liquidating me - f - word you !

So how much of what I wrote has come true ?

I´m still alive and I still haven´t gotten a new job. Which is no big surprise. I didn´t go to Barcelona but I managed to go to Erlangen. I did meet up with the guys from Spalshpages to talk about offering my help for the Oscar Jimenez interview but that never came about. But we did manage to waste a lot of time on it.

I had managed to keep the HORST translations up but the last few months the course took up too much of my time and energy. But I have once again started, which is always the most difficult part. I hope I can finish a story till the end of the month so that HORST can conquer the world.

I do have my own room but I seldom have enough time to put everything in order. And I don´t have as much time as I hoped for so the postings on the blog have been rather sporadic although I hope I can improve it in the future. My shoulder is much better although it still hurts if I move it the wrong way and the vegetable diet is struggling. Going but struggling.

I have apologized to XXXXXXX but I still have to get a special present for him. Since I didn´t know that Tomorrow is his birthday ( it seems he also forgot that ) I haven´t been able to get a present but I´ll think of something this Christmas. And like I predicted I bought ULTIMATES 2 and kept it for myself. It wasn´t such a great idea after all since he can´t read english and the comic hasn´t come out in Germany in the hardcover edition. Shame on you german comic publishers. Whenever I want to spend some money on comics I can´t find quality stuff.

As for the HEAVY METAL stuff, so far I don´t know if the second story has been printed yet and there are also no news on the money front. Thank god for the ten bucks ! Ha ! For the COMIC ACTION it was much too late to make plans since I was busy with other stuff. Maybe next year.

Oh, and I hope I´m not a podperson, a clone or an evil duplicate from a parallel dimension. All in all not too bad.

I just hope I can get to the KANE stuff in the next installment. Grrrmbl.

Comicbabe Battle : Fighting Femmes Finalists

Like I said in the first part, I don´t know in which order the five finalists in this category are going to be. Since it has been three months ( !!! ) since I started this the participants have been going up and down in the ranking.

And even as I write this I have to keep shuffeling them around as I just found out that my number 5 is really my number 4 and so on. As always this list is nowhere near complete or immune to change. Who knows how this list would have been one month ago ? All the contents are totally unqualified musings by me about fighting girls I mostly know nothing about. Heck, for my first finalist I even had to use the STREET FIGHTER WIKI.

Like is the rule in these posts comments or suggestions are always welcome. And with that let´s get it on !

Number Five Finalist : Elena

Elena is a princess in an African tribe that has a cultural tradition of fighting, making her a warrior princess. She may have been born in Kenya, but her fighting style is Capoeira which utilizes her strong, long legs with dance - like moves and fancy legwork. That combined with what might be the most revealing fight attire for a female in Street Fighter - verse history ( it´s basically a white bikini ) alone earns her a spot at the top five finalists.

With her white hair, blue eyes, and dark skin Elena looks like the fighting game version of X- Men´s Storm which also gives her bonus points. She is barefoot while fighting and has long, powerful legs. And thanks to her fighting style she´s always spreading them and spinning them around giving the viewers quite the spectacle.

She´s the stripper of the Street Fighting babes - without the stripping pole of course. And it´s probably rather difficult to slip her dollar bills during the fight. So to make it short : she´s hot.

The only reason why she´s so low on the list is that - as I said - I don´t know anything about her.

Number Four Finalist : Rainbow Mika

The wrestling chick with the stripper outfit should be included just for her exploitation costume that´s clearly designed to distract her male opponents.

Mika is a big fan of Zangief ( henche the wrestling motif ) and she´s a spunky fighter who won´t let others bring her down. From what I read she´s a fun charakter and her fighting style not only includes high flying legwork like with Elena but also hot girl - on - girl ( or girl - on - boy which is not as hot - at least for the spectators ) action holds. And anybody who has seen female wrestling knows how hot that can be.

Although I´m not sure her highly provocative outfit would pass WWE standards. Although they don´t care very much for female wrestling, they just want pin ups. But I bet the designer of her costume came right from the strip club. Or from watching Foxy Oil Wrestling.

So Mika earns her position for her stripper name ( come on it´s true ), her stripper outfit and the fact that I really had problems finding suitable pictures of her because most of her positions are endangering to impressable youths. Although most of them have probably seen riskier poses of the nubile Mika in their Street Fighter games.

Number Three Finalist : Mai Shiranui

Yes, as a breast man I was also surprised to find the contestant with the biggest cupsize at the number three slot. I thought she would be competing for the number one position.

I mean, she has it all. The original innovator of gaming's jiggle physics, Mai Shiranui, has the measurements of a Russ Meyer girl and an oufit that barely covers her. I mean she´s wearing butt floss so it´s no surprise one - tenth of the internet is devoted to fan art of her breast and butt cleavage.

With good twice as much devoted to adult images of all kind.

She should be included just for her winning quote alone: " Me Bouncy ! " The only fighting female who can top that is King of Fighters´ Angel with her patented : " Do I make you hard ? " I mean, wow.

Although I have read that the phrase may just be a translation mistake. Mai's most famous victory pose has her opening a paper fan and declaring : "Nippon Ichi" ( " Japan's Number One " or " Best in Japan ", depending on which books you read ). The quote's been infamously misinterpreted as either " Me Bouncy " or " Ni ( Boing ) Ichi ", either of which are understandable mistakes considering the jiggle that goes with the pose.

Playmate ninja Mai has gained a reputation as Ms Fanservice because of her giant gazongas and her barely covered butt, mostly because of:

1. the remarkably bouncy animations she was given in SNK's King of Fighters series

2. the character design that Masami Oobari gave to Mai in the infamously fanservice - laden Fatal Fury spin off anime, which increased the amount of cleavage in her outfit to ridiculous levels, and happily demonstrated the inevitable results of fighting in it.

SNK attempted to rehabilitate Mai's image with a new outfit in later Fatal Fury sequels, but the popularity of the ' original ' outfit and KOF ensured its immortality.

She´s also constantly hit on by the guys in the game, like a fighting game version of Power Girl. Which was one of the reasons why I saw her much higher in the ranking.

" Me Bouncy !" indeed.

And with that we reach the contenders for the top spot who - not surprisingly - both are from the Street Fighter universe. I have long meditated about who should be number one and even thought about making a tie. But in the end there has to be a winner so here is the ultimate verdict ( at least for now ).

Number Two Finalist : Cammy White

After the letter " M " for Mika and Mai we end this countdown with the letter " C " which also should tell you who is the actual winner. Only by hair´s length - or should I say by a g - string´s length - Cammy misses the number one position.

Now don´t let the pigtails and the blond hair fool you, if there ever was a fighting girl with stripper qualities it´s Cammy. The queen of butt floss, who always seems to have Sisqco´s THONG SONG as a theme music has risen to this position only by the power of her fantastic backside.

Voted number two in the list of ass - ential video game babes Cammy is arguably the hottest......or at least has the nicest ass. I’m not sure what makes her think that outfit is good for fighting in, but I’m not entirely sure what the rules are in Street Fighter either. Realistically, it’s not much worse than a lot of outfits in women’s sports. In any case it should be really distracting for her male opponents. Either way, I approve.

Cammy ass pictures are surprisingly easy to find, which speaks volumes to the impact her butt has had on the gaming world. In all of my research so far, Cammy’s booty seems to be the most celebrated in terms of the sheer number of ass pictures out there. People just really, really love that ass and for good reason. The only problem is with deciding if the pictures are safe for work but since I have no idea what the criteria for the american hemisphere are anyway I´m willing to risk it.

That in itself says a lot if the picture of an outfit from a video game might not be safe for work. And the fact that is was really difficult to narrow it down to four pictures ( I left two good ones out because I had already posted them ).

I myself was surprised that Cammy went higher and higher in the list as time went on but so far most of the girls in the countdown at least pretend to cover up. Not Cammy, her butt is the first thing you see and not only the gamers are mesmerrized by it. I mean her butt is practically naked and from the front only her crotch is covered - barely. She´s basically half naked. And the game developer also seem to use her booty for their intents.

Cammy is fanservice without the pretenses. As you have seen she even wears little more than a bikini in the latest games. The power of her buttocks is so great that she was actually voted back into the SF franchise after missing the console edition of SF III ( although she made the PC version ). Capcom held a poll and fans voted the hottie back onto consoles. Talk about bootylicious.

So as usual this countdown is also interesting for me because Cammy came a bit out of left field and almost - really almost - changed the end result to a draw.

Fighting Femmes Winner : Chun-Li

With Cammy in the number two position this should come as no surprise. There really is no other who could top her than the big mama of fight so Chun-Li ends up in the first place.

I´m not sure if it´s Chun Li or Chun-Li but just to be on the safe side I´ll stay with Chun-Li.

The first of all the fighting babes it IS strange that she wound up here since she is the one who wears the most clothing. But what Cammy does for uncovered tush Chun-Li makes up for in sheer size. Sir Mixalot´s favorite martial arts girl has a butt that just don´t quit. Add to that the combination of foxy lady with an upper class look who constantly spreads her legs during her fights and you may begin to understand her hotness. And not only does she spred them muscular legs she also spins them around, twirls and rotates them. She´s like a stripper with an invisible pole.

That´s one of the reasons why she´s the one with the most porn comics. Who hasn´t dreamed about getting some special revenge from this tough as nails arena champion ? She really makes them fishnets look good although there are some ways to change her conservative look to an outfit more to our liking.

Chun-Li's gigantic thighs brought many a gamer to Street Fighter II, and the width of her hips as been a closely analyzed feature for years. Make them a little too big or small, and people start rioting! Chun-Li's legs don't just dish out a mean lighting kick, they move the whole damn world.

Chun-Li was first introduced in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. She has since appeared as a player character in every one of the Street Fighter games produced since her debut. Her name is Mandarin for “ beautiful spring ”. While that could be interpreted as the season, I think spring references her jumping ability due to her thighs. Chun-Li’s role in the storylines varies, but is usually that of an undercover agent. She was also played by Kristin Kreuk in the recent box office flop Street Fighter : The Legend of Chun-Li.

Which may have something to do with the fact that it had nothing to do with the Street Fighter universe. I just can´t understand how people can waste so much money, talent and time to f - word a movie up. I mean, making a good Street Fighter movie should be the easiest thing in the world since there are so many great stories in the history that you only have to pick one, make it into a movie and rake in the money.

But no, the first thing they do is " make it better ". I mean how is that supposed to work ? Like I always say, you can´t improve perfection. That´s always the problem with the movie companies, they always think they know better then thousands of readers and writers who are doing this for years and sometimes decades. Just because someone writes for movies doesn´t mean that he is a better writer than a comicbook writer. People often forget that. Writing comics is as hard as writing for other media. And just because you´re a successful movie writer it doesn´t mean that you are a good comicbook writer. Which readers of Marvel comics had to learn the hard way the past few years.

Back to our main topic, the only good Street Fighter movie I´ve seen so far is the anime version and even that wasn´t without problems.

There is one scene in the movie with Chun-Li taking a shower ( another reason for her top spot ) that apparently was too hot and had to be censored. In the scene Chun-Li is taking a shower and afterwards she has a fight with Vega. You can say what you want against Vega ( at least his native country is cool ) but he sure knows how to pick his ladies. Even if they are not very excited about his way of showing his affection in most cases.

The end was that Chun-Li´s shower scene was censored which is another reason to get the uncut version in Spain. Although I´m not sure which version is available here. There are a few versions of the cut scene floating around.

the uncut shower scene :

the whole fight with Vega :

Video Games

So for being the first after which all other fight girls were modelled, for her class and style, for her unparalleled bootyliciousness, the way she spreads and spins her legs and for being one of the few whose scenes were so hot they had to be censored Chun-Li wins the top spot of Fighting Fem of all time. If you haven´t had enough of this topic here are a few articles I used during my research :

  • 29 most ridiculously hot female fighters

  • Top Five of the Sexiest Females From Capcom Fighting Games

  • top ten nicest asses in videogames

    Knock on Torchwood

You´ll have to wait a bit longer for the JACK STAFF post. As usual I was doing a bit of research Today and ended up with TORCHWOOD - of all things.

I was looking on the internet for interviews, articles and other stuff about Paul Grist and his first series KANE because that´s where the story really starts. Not Paul Grist´s story, as he´s much longer in the comics medium, but my story. There are those comics you hear a lot about but you never have the chance to actually get a copy.....which back at the time I started collecting american comics was rather the rule than the exception. Especially when it came to independent black and white comics, and twice so if they came from the UK. KANE was scheduled to be published in Germany and this week I even saw three of the books ( I think that is the entire part that was published here ) at my comicshop in the " comics by the kilo " section.

But when the announcement was made I wasn´t so keen on reading the german version as I had heard that there are some parts that are difficult to read in the original. And it´s difficult enough to read that kind of stuff in the original version let alone some mutilated german translation.

So, the first issues I got of KANE was a pack I ordered through the catalogue with the first issues and a signed print. I liked the issues but like it was in those days - too much comics not enough money. Well, it´s still that way. Later on I got some issues at a shop were we went to a signing with the WILDSTORM guys from IMAGE : Jim Lee, J. Scott Campbell and Adam Hughes. And I tell you I´ll never go to a signing where they don´t do sketches again.

The last few years I have tried to complete my KANE collection with single issues and trades and because I wasn´t very thourough the last time I ordered comics ( never do that without your daily 8 hours of sleep ) I now have some doubles.

But I wanted to talk about Torchwood. Which naturally means to talk about Dr. Who.

As someone outside of England the only exposure I had to the Dr. Who universe were the occasional merchandise items that appeared in the comic catalogue. Only recently - when the newest Dr. Who series was aired in Germany - I finally entered the weird and wonderful world of the Tardis. I especially liked the first season with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor.

I found him much cooler than Neil Tennent even if he got Martha Jones as assitant. Who DID save the world - one of the things that´s mentioned in Torchwood. That´s another thing I liked about the series. Even though it´s connected to Dr. Who it is only mentioned here and there and the ones in the know get the hints. It´s not so much in your face. A good example of this is the episode where Martha Jones guest stars. Or should I say Freema Agyeman, that´s the name of the actress.

That´s a mouthful. Now I know why actors change their names. Try googeling that. I didn´t find many good pics but I think we won´t have that problem with the new season since I´ve heard that they already have a new Dr. Who with a little schoolgirl for a sidekick. How the times are changing.

In any case, I can only recommend the first season of this new Dr. Who series especially the Dalek episode. For me I had only known that the Daleks were kind of Dr. Who´s archenemies and that whenever the Daleks appear it´s End - of - the World - Time. But they were much scarier than those pictures on the CIVIL WAR banners I still keep posting. My, isn´t it strange that we still are dealing with the fallout from CIVIL WAR ? And here you thought that would be done and forgotten after two years, tops.

edit : It has been brought to my attention that the new assistant is not a little schoolgirl

As I said, I never had much exposure to the whole Dr. Who universe and all I knew thanks to some ads in the comics I read was that they already had a new Doctor. And there was this picture.

I mean, she´s in the background and she looks very small and tiny so...sue me. I´m not an expert in those things and if I know my german television we should be getting the episodes with the Eleventh Doctor in about five or ten years. Which means that they are probably already airing them in Spain. Probably in the catalan network which is always something special. You haven´t watched Dr. Who if you haven´t seen the Dalek cry foul murder in catalan.

In any case, the new assistant is NOT a little schoolgirl, her name is Amy Pond and she´s played by Karen Gillan if my research was correct.

If you are a Dr. Who noobie like me you can get all the right information about the series and everything connected from the Dr. Who wiki

Back to our main topic I don´t want to explain too much about Dr. Who or Torchwood, because half the fun is in finding out how the two are connected ( yes, it has to do with an episode that involves Daleks ) and the less that is said about the mystery behind BAD WOLF the better. I´ll say this much : I´m sure the Doctor in THE AUTHORITY has Dr. Who to thank for a great part of his origin story.

Now what I want to know is how a company like BBC manages to produce such high quality series like DR. WHO, TORCHWOOD, JEKYLL, LIVE ON MARS etc. while here in Germany we have to pay almost four times what the BBC gets and only get crap in return.

Torchwood is a spin - off series of Dr. Who but this is one of the cases where the spin - off is better than the source material. If Dr. Who is the scalpel ( if I may use this analogy ) Torchwood is the blunt instrument. Or speaking in comic terms : Torchwood is the Grat Lakes Avengers - if Marvel had the cojones to write them cool. I mean, with Captain Jack Harkness they even got their own Mr. Immortal.

Great Lakes Avenger´s Mr. Immortal : unable to die, mostly uses guns on himself

Torchwood´s Captain Jack Harkness : also unkillable but mostly uses guns on other people

And whereas in Dr. Who the protagonists mostly know how to handle their gadgets and alien death rays in Torchwood it´s mostly plugging some weird thing into a socket and blazing guns action.

Speaking of action : there´s also another kind of action in the series. And I´m not talking about what you might think but rather about the constant guy on guy action on the series. Captain Jack is even hornier than Gambit ( and that´s saying a lot ) and this guy is like a car - you don´t pay attention you end up under it. This guy bangs everything no matter if it´s guy, girl, alien...whatever. He´s like the intellectual version of this sick guy in PREACHER - if it has an orifice...well, he´s there.

So not only do you need a strong stomach because of the action scenes it´s also because of Captain Jack´s raging libido, preferably with boytoy Janto.

Now, what this all has to do with Paul Grist ( we still haven´t talked a bit about KANE ) is that as a british illustrator of some reknown it´s not strange that he´s involved with the Dr. Who comic adaption. Even if he´s only doing covers. Which is the main reason I can´t say much about the quality of the issues.

What I didn´t know is that he also contributed some interior artwork to a Torchwood comic anthology titled RIFT WAR. That´s something I only just found out through my research.

I have found the book on amazon but because of past experiences I´m not so sold on the idea of ordering it from the " used " section. I´ve had to learn that what we as comic readers mean with " mint condition " and what others define as that are two seperate realities. Maybe I´ll find it at some comic convention or it even might be translated to german.

Once again time has run out for Today and like always we ended up somewhere completely different - like Monty Python would say. In our next ( or at least the one after that ) installment we´ll finally get to talk about KANE. Promise.
