A Friday Fight Night with the Swamp Thing !

Today I spent most of the morning at the doctor to get some tests done so we will continue our journey through the SWAMP THING issues since there is still some original artwork left that I want to put on the blog.

For those of you joining late we have already covered the original run written by Len Wein and drawn by Bernie Wrightson in this post and the continuation with art by the great Nestor Redondo in this spotlight so you might want to check out those posts before continuing. Especially in light of the fact that this will be a kind of in - between post containing material by Nestor Redondo which I couldn't fit in my last post as well as from issues of SWAMP THING pre Alan Moore before coming to what you all have been waiting for. I know that it will be all over the place ( well, not as much as one might expect since the artists before Alan Moore took over the writing rains are the same as the ones who worked on his groundbreaking run ) but this way we get two more SWAMP THING posts.

Nestor Redondo's forgotten SWAMP THING !

Well, you might think that after finally writing my spotlight for Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's SWAMP THING we could start with Alan Moore's reimagination of the character. But longtime blog followers know that one of my personal quirks is I like to showcase the forgotten, overlooked or underappreciated comicbook creators or comicbook runs. So before we come to the part of SWAMP THING everybody and their dog praises as the greatest of all time we take a trip down to the murky dimension of comic limbo to appreciate Nestor Redondo's forgotten SWAMP THING.

Maybe forgotten is too harsh but definitely highly underappreciated. And it's not that Nestor Redondo is not a great artist in his own right. It's just that he had the bad fortune that he was tasked with continuing where Bernie Wrightson had left of which would have been a difficult job for most artists. The fact that the next series titled SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING would introduce the most popular version of the character didn't exactly help neither. Although Alan Moore didn't come on board as the new writer until issue 21 with the famous The Anatomy lesson. Yup, the first 20 issues were written by Martin Pasko and also are often ignored.

In any case here are a few original pages - and some choice additions - to commemorate a part of SWAMP THING lore that usually is overlooked, underappreciated or used to fill out the omnibus or absolute editions.
