TALES FROM THE KRYPTONIAN: A ONE PIECE post that nobody saw coming !

One of the most criticized and scrutinized things in comicbooks - mostly by females but thanks to the rise of SJWs and femi - nazis lately also by uninformed pseudomen - is probably the depiction of the female form. It has been one of the great mysteries of the universe why women take so much offense with an idealized print version of a woman - which is not them in any way shape or form - while men couldn't care less if guys in comicbooks are shown having impossible abs and muscles upon muscles where in real life there are no muscles or just go " Yep, that's exactly how I look. " and of course it also happens with a manga like ONE PIECE.

Especially after the series garnered more interest due to being adapted into a tv show and not only that, the tv show - overseen by ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda himself - is a shining example how to successfully adapt a manga into a tv series. Of course this kind of exposure brings the attention of a certain group of people who is really a very small minority where readers - and especially buyers - of the manga are concerned ( if they even take the time to buy or read the manga or watch the tv show instead of solely depending on snippets they pick up on the internet by other equally badly informed people ) but are a very loud and aggressive group on social media. I did a bit of research ( which is a foreign concept for them ) so I even got quotes from articles about those peoples claims.

The first article I found is from the spanish website CODIGOESPAGUETI by Jesus Zamora from November the 16th in 2023 titled ( I am translating from spanish so there may be changes from the original ) ONE PIECE - WHY DO THE CHARACTERS OF EIICHIRO ODA HAVE SUCH BIG OPPAIS ?

In the world of ONE PIECE, the characters designed by Eiichiro Oda have garnered attention for their physical characteristics especially the prominent breasts which are notoriously big in some of the female protagonists. This design style has opened discussions and questions about the reasons behind this particular aesthetic election.

The Truth is that Eiichiro Oda has mentioned on a few occasions that his focus when creating characters is that he seeks to highlight diversity as well as the singularity of each individual in the extensive universe of his work. In the end the election of Oda to design characters with notoriously big breasts is a manifestation of his personal artistic focus and his desire to create unforgettable characters in a world full of imagination and variety. His unique style has left a lasting mark in the manga universe and contributed to the global acknowledgement of ONE PIECE as a masterpiece of the genre.

So the gist of it is that one guy does what all these SJWs just talk about - create a universe with diversity not only in gender and race but also in body types - and then these same people complain because some of them - a really small part - have very big boobs. Which is just typical.

Because nowadays these groups claim that they want diversity but what they really want is the opposite. Their kind of diversity is always the same and only allows certain characteristics. They want diversity but only if it's not male, white, caucasian, hetero sexual or has an idealized female body ( nothing wrong with an idealized male body as long as it is bi - sexual or at least gay ) or large breasts. I hate to point it out but that's racist. But it is like they say people want only the diversity they are comfortable with and if they are this way it is progressive and woke but if on the other side you don't want their bland brand of diversity or representation you are a racist, sexist and what else they can think of.

But before I go too much into a sidebar let's get to the next article, this one is from March the 21st 2023 written by Nerdigans Inc on the website BOUNDING INTO COMICS and it has a rather long title with ONE PIECE CREATOR EIICHIRO ODA DEFENDS SERIES FAN SERVICE : " HAVING FEMALES SHOW THEIR SEXUALITY OUT OF THEIR OWN VOLITION IS A MUCH NEEDED REVOLUTION FOR THE REPRESENTATION OF HEROINES IN MANGA "

Whether due to his refusal to change a character’s gender in order to conform to western identity politics or his tendency to hang on some story beats a bit too long, ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda has a habit of regularly finding himself in the crosshairs of social media’s more outrage addicted users.

One particular sticking point amongst Oda’s critics is his treatment of the series’ female characters, particularly in how he illustrates them.

Thanks to his creative desire to draw many of his female characters such as Nami, Robin, and Boa Hancock as attractive and slightly sexualized, many have disingenuously accused the mangaka of viewing the fairer sex as nothing more than objects for men to oogle at.

Hilariously, in making these accusations, said critics display a seeming willful ignorance towards existence of the numerous other female ONE PIECE characters who aren’t drawn according to contemporary beauty standards - all notably very capable and plot - important characters in their own right - including Dadan, Shinobu ( whose transformation into an attractive woman did not happen until after she had helped the Straw Hats take down Kaido ) and even the co - headlining villain of the series’ last major arc, Big Mom.

Yet, despite the belief by many that Oda chooses to depict the women of ONE PIECE in this way in order to belittle the entire gender, the mangaka himself recently revealed that this could not be further from the truth.

As translated by the founder of the popular ONE PIECE fansite Library of Ohara on March 16th, Oda spoke to the matter for the Q & A section of the series’ recently released 105th volume.

Asked by a reader, " This is a serious question. ONE PIECE often features shots where women show their chests, but it hardly has any underskirt panty shots. Is there some reason or policy you ( Oda ) have for why that is the case ? ", the mangaka admitted, " Nah…it’s ( panty shots ) just something I’m not that interested in myself lol."

" Ever since I was a child, there’s been many manga that feature scenes with fanservice, but most of the time it’s done against the consent or will of the female characters…so I feel like having," Oda explained. " So I feel that having females show their sexuality out of their own volition such as like with " happiness punch " ( a technique wielded by Nami in which she uses a tease of her nude body to knock out her enemies ) is a much needed revolution for the representation of heroines in manga."

Now I find it interesting that one of the things Eiichiro Oda is criticized for is not changing the gender of characters just to conform to western identity politics. The gall of some people to demand an artist should gender swap a character just to appease their fragile sense of self and western identity problems. God beware we have artists who stay true to their original creation instead of changing it due to the whims of other people who should take a work of art as it is and not start to criticize what they don't understand. Can you imagine somebody going " Oh, the Mona Lisa is nice and all that but can we have her not smile ? It's given me this whole offensive " You are more beautiful when you smile. " vibe and that is not what we want to transmit to young girls / transgender / lesbian / whatever counts as slightly female population. " at the Louvre.

The other typical thing is that they take the way he depicts some - only some - of the female characters as a sign that they are sex objects that are only there so the male readers can oogle at them ( Which makes me wonder that with as many lesbians out there as they claim there must be also a very high percentage of women oogling at them or is oogling something only men do - or only men admit to doing ? ) and that Oda wants to belittle their entire gender which is just a ridiculous claim. For one, some of the women who are drawn with those big boobs by Oda are Boa Hancock, Nico Robin and - most famously - Nami who are all integral characters in the manga who have a big impact of the development of the story. All of them are well rounded characters ( no pun intended ) who are way more fleshed out ( again no pun intended ) than most of the female characters that you find in westerner comicbook serials.

And two if you really look at all the female characters in ONE PIECE you will see that all kind of body types, races and ages are represented so picking out just a few and ignoring all of the others really shows where your priorities lie and that you are just concentrating on what fits into your negative narrative to further your own fascist agenda. Because that is what those people are. If you try to control how people speak and how people behave and soon what people think through false propaganda and lies, fake news and indoctrination and intimidation that is called fascist.

But I don't want to go further into that because the main point of this post is - like the guys from Monty Python's Flying Circus used to say - something completely different. Everything I have written - or quoted - up to this point is to illustrate how Eiichiro Oda draws women and all of the problems he has had because of it. It also serves to bring up some arguments for this depiction of women and that it is not as scandalous as people make it seem. But no, my point is what if all of these people - including me - have got it wrong ? What if it's another thing completely ?

Okay, hear me out on this one. Everybody thinks that the way Oda draws women is just an idealized, stylized version of a real woman. Because with those hourglass figure, the long, thin limbs and the accentuated breasts, those strangely shaped heads with the pointy chins and the big eyes those characters could not exist in the real world. How could they ?

But what if ?

What if Eiichiro Oda was not making all of that up and what's more took inspiration from real life. What if women who look like Oda's females exist in real life ?
