Solicitations Part 4

Yes, I know. What happened to part 3 ? Well, since I thought I could finish my solicitations with my last post I decided to name it part 2.1. But since I couldn´t warp it up I don´t see any sense in going any farther and calling this post part 2.2. You can only make so much add - ons to a post and in my opinion two are just one too many. So since my last post was really part 3 this will be part 4.

I was reluctant to even make a part 4 but I have been trying to make shorter posts and instead post on a more frequent basis. I don´t know if that´s a good thing or not but I think that my readers would appreciate it if there´s more new material on a regular ( or at least more frequent ) base. Maybe I´m totally wrong and you all just come here for my megalong totally unrelated over - the - top crazy comic ramblings. I always try to write this blog as if I would talk to someone ( with the few exceptions when I´m writing about a certain topic - in which case I write more in an essay kind of way ) trying not to get too verbose and shooting off in all kind of different directions where ever my crazy ideas go - mostly Power Girl and her magic cleavage window. Sigh !

Which is also a way of keeping writing this blog interesting for myself since I never know what exactly I´m going to write.

So if you have any preferences either way just write me a comment if you like the shorter posts or the longer ones. And with this quick flash I just turned this one from a short one to a long one. Figures.

Anyway, what I didn´t get to mention in my last post were the independent solicitations for this month meaning IMAGE. I would like to write about some of the other publishers too but I don´t read that much outside of the big four and I also have no solicitations info on the others. There are some preview pages from DYNAMITE but since I cancelled RED SONJA I don´t read any of their books anyway. Also this month there is nothing special about the solicitations from DARK HORSE and I have no idea if I´m reading any other Dark Horse comic besides USAGI YOJIMBO.

Brit 07

The only reason why I even noticed this issue was that it has INVINCIBLE on the cover. It´s one of the books I love to read even if I´m just reading it in the trade format. I know I should buy the floopies to support the sales numbers of the comic but I am afraid to miss out on issues and it reads better in trade because the cliffhangers are even more suspenseful than in 24.

Also I have been reluctant to add this book to my pull list because I fear I might get lost in the Kirkmanverse. He writes such good stuff that you just get trapped. Well, outside of his work for Marvel. I haven´t read his DEADLY FOES OF THE FANTASTIC FOUR miniseries but his Captain America story arc was disappointing and the MARVEL TEAM UP issues that were reprinted in the MARVEL MONSTER by PANINI weren´t very good either.

Like I said I haven´t read any of the BRIT issues so far but I have to check this issue out.

Invincible 51

Yes, I know the cover looks like it´s a first issue which is the main reason why I wanted to mention it. A wonderful cover by Jim Lee which could fool the comics collectors in the shop.

Wow, 51 issues already. It seems like just last year that I finally decided to check out those issues of Invincible this new series everyone was writing about and which I had already passed on two occasions. But I wasn´t the only one to come late to this series.

I want to do a post praising the virtues of this series ( but only the internet gods know when I´m finally going around to it ) since I already wrote an introduction to the series for the german website of Phil & Lamond. For the moment I just want to say this much : for years Marvel tried to write the new Spider - Man. A comic that is as good and brings in as many new readers as Spider - Man did in the sixties. They tried with ARANA which was no big success, they failed with GRAVITY and they had a little success with ULTIMATE SPIDER - MAN which is really only rewriting their old Spider - Man stories for the new millenium. They almost succeeded with SPIDER - GIRL and they have been trying to kill that book ever since.

Marvel tried for years to write the new Spider - Man. Robert Kirkman succeeded with INVINCIBLE.

His book has all the things you love from the old Spidey books and it has one quality that makes it stand apart from most new superhero series or new takes on old comic characters. Robert Kirkman really loves superhero comics. Invincible is not ashamed of being a superhero comic, it´s not apologizing for it and instead embraces everything about it thus showing why superhero comics is the biggest market segment in the american comic book industry. It´s not bitter because superhero are much more successful than other genres, it doesn´t try to belittle super heroes or pi$$es all over them. I don´t want to spoil too much before I do my big Invincible post but if you try this series out I have to say one thing : Hang in there. I know it´s an awful thing to say to someone trying out a new series but wait with a decision till you have read the third trade. Invincible is a really good series right from the first issue but in the third trade it goes SUPERNOVA ! There´s something in that trade that will just blow you away and for which the mainstream publishers just don´t have the cojones for.

Hear me now and believe me later.

Savage Dragon 127

Am I glad that this book is back ! If Invincible is the new Spider - Man than this comic is the best superhero book nobody is reading. I often hear that quality will always find it´s audience and that good books will be successful in the end but the evidence points in the other direction. If the best books really win their audience then it makes no sense that MAJOR BUMMER and POWER COMPANY were canceled prematurely. And then Savage Dragon would be on the top of the sales charts and not on place 223.

I am missing an issue since the series came back ( and wouldn´t you know it it´s a specialsized issue ) but I´m just happy to have the chance to read Savage Dragon again. Especially if it´s guest starring MADMAN.

Wanted Hardcover

Well, with a major motion picture in the works it was just a matter of time. The problem with most comics - turned - movie is that while there is a big audience that saw the movie it does not automatically lead to higher comic sales. Which in the past was partly because publishers like Dark Horse failed to make the trades available for when people like to buy it - like in the case of SIN CITY.

Now I have to say I never was a big fan of the miniseries. I just don´t like this whole " villains as heroes " and " gangster rapper jet set hitman trashtalking hipster " garbage that some comics propagandise. A villain is no hero to me and I don´t think a life of crime is something you should present to people as something to strive for. Anyone who was ever a victim of a crime will tell you that it´s neither funny nor glamorous. Stealing, raping and killing is not something that will better your community. And I also don´t think posers like Eminem, Marilyn Manson or 50 Cent are not rolemodels. I mean what am I supposed to think about artists who don´t stand behind what they advertise in their lyrics and start crying like little babies if they suddenly have to go to jail ? You think being a gangbanger and a player is cool ? Just ask Tupac or Biggie Smalls how that turned out.

No, I didn´t like the story very much and even the ending sucked in my opinion. Talk about taking the easy way out. Anyway, I´m not sure if I´m even going to see the movie. Depends on if they got Halle Berry since one of the characters was clearly modelled after her. Rowwr !

Well the only thing I can predict so far : if the movie has only half the elements I hated about this mini today´s movie audience will love it. This has the potential to be a huge success. And while I´m all for comic movies being successful.......may god help us all.

    Solicitations Part 2.1

Since it´s been a few days without me finishing the last post I thought it would be better to just put a final pic and a banner under it and start new. This way my readers ( all three of them ) can see immediatelly that there is some new content without having to scroll down. Everything to keep the readers happy.

It´s now Friday night and again I can´t sleep because of the german IRS. If it´s not the unemployment office it´s the IRS or some other damn bureaucratic invention.......damn, nowhere in the world you have to take so much s#i! from them like in Germany. But let´s finish this before I finally go ballistic. My weekend´s ruined so let´s see what else is going down the drain in the world of comics......or not. Who knows ?

    Giant Sized Astonishing X - Men 1

Okay, what has this comic to do with going down the drain ? Is ASTONISHING X - MEN not the best written x - book at the moment ? Is it not the best drawn x - book at the moment ? And is it not the only x - book I still read.......which must be the reason why it´s not in continuity.

You´re right on all accounts but if you have read what I have written so far then you must have noticed that I´m writing " at the moment ". Because the new Giant Sized Astonishing X - Men may be the artistic zenith that Joss Whedon and John Cassaday are reaching - but it will be downhill from then. I´m not a big fan on Simone Bianchi ( I quit Wolverine when he took over ) and any writer after Whedon would just be a big disappointment. Marvel can continue this title but for all I care it will become just one of the many unreadable x - comics that are floating out there. More money for other books I guess.

So I´m going to enjoy it while it lasts but after this issue it will be Sayonara from Subzero.

If I´m getting this issue. I´m not sure. With my old comics shop I wouldn´t have counted on it ( GIANT SIZED Astonishing X - Men - it´s like a totally different title )but maybe my new comic shop will surprise me. I´m just glad I picked up my new comics before the comic fair in Stuttgart because my brother is still waiting for his package to be sent to him. I guess they need a bit longer because of all the new customers. I think I´m going to have to pay them a visit before Christmas to get the IMMORTAL IRON FIST trade so maybe I can pick up a few comics to read.

    Hulk 2

Uh - oh. Don´t look now shellhead but Houston we got a problem. Yep, the Hulk looks like me when I got done reading the last issue of WORLD WAR HULK but unlike me he seems to have found someone to vent his frustation on. So instead of singing the praises of this issue of TONY STARK - WHIPPING BOY let´s speak about the ending of WWH 5. I was floored. Sometimes you read a comic and the the end is not like you expected. Which can be a good thing. But in this case.....I didn´t feel ripped off but a satisfying read is something altogether different than what I got from reading this comic.

You go and read it and than you tell me how you feel. I´m not going to spoil it but if you have read it you will know what I mean. And the worst thing is that in my opinion it isn´t crucial to the story. Things like these happen WAY too often in Marvel comics ( and in DC comics now ) without having any further meaning cheapening the act in itself and just wasting great story potential. What happened to the House of Ideas ? I really miss some creative writing.

    Incredible Herkules 114

Wha ? Huh ? Jabbawhaat ? No, you didn´t miss 113 issues of Marvel´s latest megaseller. For whatever reasons after issue 113 of THE INCREDIBLE HULK Hercules will take over the spotlight in this issue and to get more attention Marvel decided to rename it to THE INCREDIBLE HERCULES. To which I have to say : Whatever get´s Art Adams to do the cover ( and one promo art piece ) is okay in my book.

He´s doing two covers and one FF poster ( picture included at the bottom of the last post ) so I´m hoping he´s just getting ready to do some interior work. As for Hercules taking over the spotlight I´m not sure if the writer knows what to do with him. In too many comics Herc gets treated like a second - rate Thor - wannabe which he definitely is not. In a few instances he has been portrayed right with his temper tantrums, drinking and womanizing ways. Let´s hope he is depicted with the craziness and grandeur that befits the lion of Olympus.

So all I´m saying is : Herc smash !!!

    She Hulk 26

Speaking of Hulk and other green things.....while I like Greg Land´s cover for issue 26 what´s up with Jen quitting the superhero biz to become a bounty hunter ? What´s with all the spy stuff ? Or am I complaining to soon ? Who knows ? I heven´t read the issues yet so they may be really good. Maybe I´m just grumpy from Mr. Slott´s resolution of his storyarc. How can someone write such awful drivel in She Hulk and real comic book gold in AVENGERS : THE INITIATIVE ? Which by the way features Slapstick - and in a cool way. How awesome is that ?

I wanted to mention that it´s about time that She Hulk got a real costume but maybe that´s a moot point now. On second thought black pants and a white shirt CAN be a costume ( Lara Croft doesn´t have much more of a costume than that ) especially if Marvel manages to get the shirt wet every two issues or so. Rowwrr !

    Thor 7

And speaking of Avengers who were part of the team the last time the Avengers were disassembled.....and by that I mean in a neat and intelligent way without contradicting 20 years of continuity and wiping out half of the active roster.....

How´s that for a smooth segueway ? Anyway, at the moment I´m enjoying the series. It´s not as grand in scope like when Simonson wrote it but everything pales in comparison with his run. And it could be worse. It could be a lot worse like Dan Jurgens demonstrated. At first ( and I´m not sure I didn´t already mention this ) I was a bit reluctant to pick up the new book. I mean he doesn´t even look like Thor.

Not that Thor ever looked like Thor in the Marvel comics. His hair was blonde not red and he didn´t even have a beard. Not even a beard for crying out loud. I mean everybody knows the saying : By Thor´s fiery beard ! Or maybe that´s just me. Well, as I was saying Thor never looked much like Thor in the Marvel comics and whenever they creative team decided to give him a beard sooner or later he would eventually return to the clean shaven look. They even shaved him in the ULTIMATES animated movie.

And now his new look. That´s no viking helmet. And what kind of square chainmail is that supposed to be ? Who ever heard of the vikings having square chainmail ?

No, I wasn´t really delighted by the new Thor series. What finally made me seek out the single issues ( besides the fact that I desperately needed something to read because my comic shop was only getting scattered issue here and there ) was the preview pages I saw online for issue 3. In which Thor does exactly what Hulk does in this issue of his new series : ripping Tony Stark a new one. One of the things I expected was that there would be some retribution for what Iron Man did to Thor while he was absent. Well, not absent he was dead as a doornail which his Avenger buddies never believed. But I really hoped that if.....or better WHEN Thor returned that there would be a reckoning.

And JMS did not let me down. Issue 3 really showed that Thor is a god - and we all just live in his world. Some people may think that armors give them power but in relation to REAL power they are like insects.

Thinking about it this could become a new monthly theme. Who´s turn is it to kick Tony´s a$$ ? There sure is a long list of possible candidates. Could be even a spin off series.

    Ultimate Spider - Man 119

Okay, I´m going to say it. Spider - Man and his amazing friends. It seems after the clone saga Bendis decided to integrate another pop culture hit into the ultimate universe - case in point the hugely popular cartoon series that co - starred Iceman and Firestar ( which will have at least on of the comicgeekspeak guys buying the book - if they kept Firestar as a redhead ). At least I hope it´s hugely popular in the United States. Not that I would know. I mean here in Germany most kids never heard of Speed Racer which may be because when I was a kid the parent groups forced the tv stations to drop Speed Racer because the show was too violent for kids. Which by the way - seguewaying again - you just have to watch the trailer for the new SPEED RACER motion picture coming in May of next year. I tell you one thing : Speed Racer is the new Transformers ! In a big way.

    Watch the trailer !

Did I mention Christina Ricci´s in it ? Maaassitta !

Back to comics the last Marvel cover for this post is the cover to.....

    Uncanny X - Men 495

Looks like Cyclops is throwing the other x - Men out to have some quality time with Emma. Or he finally went overboard with the training session when he burn a big effing whole into x - mansion. And the other X - Men are bailing out.

Maybe I´ll pick this issue up to see what it´s all about. Well, what do you know ? Just when I thought that Marvel had lost the ability to make intruiging covers that compel you to buy the book ( aside from Spider - Girl )they go and make this one. It´s just like a flashback to my youth. Show´s you one thing : You never know.

Another thing you never know is when I will finally wrap up this month´s solicitations. I´m finally tired enough to go to bed, it´s a quarter past seven in the morning and I think this post is long enough as it is. So ( hopefully ) I can wrap up the few indies in the last part ( part 4 ? ) and then we can talk about other important things. Like what makes a hero or even the next round of comicbabe battle. And if there´s a category of comicbabes you would like to see just drop me a line. Maybe I already have planned to do it and we could make a total request edition.

    Part 2 of Solicitations

Time again for part 2 of my comments on the new solicitations. I´m still waiting for new comics from the new comic shop and since I didn´t find much stuff on the comic fair in Stuttgart my reading material is scarce. In past years the trip to Stuttgart was always one of the highlights of the year because I returned with a huge stack of cheap ass comics. The pile was so huge that it took me a few weeks to read it all. Anyway, back to the Marvel and Independent solicitations.

    Avengers classic 9

Once again a wonderful Artur Adams cover. Strange how some artists have the ability that even the lamest costumes look cool. I really wish Art Adams would do some interior work. I mean, a cover is still no reason to buy a comic.....well, with the expection of the Manhunter / Wonder Woman cover......rowwwr.

But to think that there could be actual art by Art Adams inside. Even five pages were worth the price of admission. Just a little tip for Marvel : think Enchantress vs. Scarlett Witch vs. She Hulk. Now you´re talking, guys.

    Black Panther annual 1

Another great cover. I´m still a little behind on my reviews of new comics.....well, if by a little behind you mean two years.....but I just wanted to comment on the Black Panther title. I´m not a big fan of relaunches and I was not a big fan of the new series. Admittedly you can´t beat art by John Romita Jr but he didn´t stay for much more than six issues.

And I didn´t find the following issues very exciting especially Marvel´s need to establish a new continuity concerning Black Panther and Storm on top of the already existing one. I thought the wedding was one of the biggest mistakes of the book. On top of a continual decline of the art I thought this was the end of the book. Boy, was I wrong.

Reginald Hudson did something I thought not possible : he turned a weakness to a strenght. Normally books suffer when the writers have to include various crossovers. We have seen it before : a series that used to be good has one tie - in after another, all the stories have no beginning and no ending and it just hurts to read it. Reginald put his own spin on it. Instead of letting the series get bogged down by the various tie - ins he uses them to crank up the volume to eleven. He puts CIVIL WAR on top of MARVEL ZOMBIES on top of THE INITIATIVE and just puts the series in overdrive.

Yes, the art could be better but BLACK PANTHER is one of the best written books from Marvel.

    Captain America 35

I don´t know if I really have anything new to say about the book or I just want to piss off thousands of readers ( as if ) by posting another picture of the new Captain America. And his gun. And his knife. Has anybody mentioned the knife yet ?

    Booyahh !

    Captain Marvel 4

Speaking of Captains.....still not sure if I should check out the new series. On one side I´m not much of a fan of stories that f### up current continuity and go against the motto : if it ain´t broke don´t fix it. And is a Captain Marvel without Jim Starlin really Captain Marvel ? His story ended in one of the best comic stories ever. There´s no need to restart it. So I will probably wait till the trade comes out.

On the other hand you have these totally rad ( I think I just dated myself ) Ed McGuiness covers. And you never know how they will be included in the trade. And sometimes you can get a really awesome story by changing ( or tweaking ) the current continuity - just take IDENTITY CRISIS. Decisions, decisions.

    ClanDestine 1

This book is already bought. No kidding. A comic written AND drawn by Alan Davis one of the greates comic artists EVER ? Which continues one of his best written and funniest books ? It´s on. Now it´s on.

At least I think it´s a new series. If not then the book is also already bought. Because I already have all the issues. But I think it´s a new series. Wow. Finally. If you don´t know what the ClanDestine is just go and buy the ClanDestine / X - Men trade which not only reprints the mentioned crossover but also the entire run of the issues that Alan Davis did. We are not acknowleding the other issues which were just a dream anyway. Go and buy it. How can you call yourself a comic fan and not own this trade that´s loaded with tons of Alan Davis goodness ? Shame on you.

    Fantastic Four 554

This is it. The big one. The showstopper. The maineventer. The mother of it all. Brian Hitch takes over Marvel´s first family. Now we´re cooking. Everything to this point is just filler.

    WRONG !

If you are one of those who are waiting for Brian Hitch to take over the art reigns on FF you are missing out on the best run of the FF in a long time. The current creative team is delivering one of the best storylines of Fantastic Four lore in a long time. They even have the Frightful Five in it and the Silver Surfer. I know most people just think it´s filler but I would have prefered it if Paul Pelletier would have stayed on the book.

On the other side Brian Hitch´s not half - bad either and that leaves Paul Pelletier to take over another book. And there are a lot of books at Marvel at the moment that could benefit from a new artist. Like She Hulk a book he´s already familiar with. Or maybe Black Panther. He´s already familiar with the character after FF. Just put him on a book with hot chicks - you hear me, Marvel ?

Due to the fact that it´s now 5 days since I started this post I´m going to end this post now and start a new one. So you won´t have to scroll down to see if there´s new content.

    Stuttgart Comicbörse

Today I was at the comic fair in Stuttgart.

On Friday I was at my new comic shop to see what I got there waiting for me. It´s not a good thing to go to your comic store the day before you attend a comic fair because you need all your money there. But I usually go to the comic store a few days before so I know what´s in my bag. I´ve made the experience comic shop owners don´t like it too much if you buy stuff they want to sell you somewhere else.

This time it seems there were even less vendors and almost no US comics. Which in past years have been the main reason why I went to Stuttgart. I still remember the first time I discovered the comic fair in Stuttgart. It was like I had just stepped into a parallel universe where all the comics that were impossible to find were laid out on table after table almost breaking under the weight.

I was absolutely overwhelmed by the sheer number of comics and I have been going there ever since. Now in recent years the number of comic dealers and visitors have been going down - I guess it has something to do with the fact that they don´t advertise it enough. This used to be a big event but lately it´s more like the meeting of a comicclub. You already know all the dealers and you basically go there because that´s the only occasion to meet people in person.

Another reason may be that most people nowadays buy comics over the internet from internet shops or e - bay. The kids of today are not used to go out, meet the dealers in person and bargain a little.

So that´s one of the reasons why I still go to Stuttgart. For my US comics I have to go to the internet or the comic conventions in Erlangen or Essen ( or Spain like this year ) but I go to Stuttgart to meet up with the usual suspects. Yes, I don´t leave the house very often and since we don´t go to the icom meetings anymore that´s one of the few opportuities to meet other loonies and just talk comics.

The other reasons is that I still buy the occasional german translation of comics and since I generally can´t afford the more pricey comics - which in Germany are 90 % of the published comics - this is almost the only source where I can get german comics for a reasonable price. Which is extremely important now that christmas is just around the corner. Hardcovers are always better than softcovers as presents and normally I can´t afford to pay full price. And mostly when I am in comic shops that have german comic books I forget to check out the new product.

This time I had even less money than the last time but I also didn´t find that much interesting stuff. Nevertheless I found a few hot items so here´s my swag from this comic fair :

    Luna 2

Part 2 of the new science fiction series from SCHWARZER TURM by the creative team of Robi and Toni Greis best known for their work on the adult series ALRAUNE whicxh was even published by eros comix. Since we didn´t go to Essen this year we didn´t meet the guys from Schwarzer Turm so I had to buy this comic in Stuttgart and didn´t get it signed.

I paid full price for it but that´s okay since I don´t want our friends to loose any money on it. God knows there aren´t enough publishers in Germany putting out excellent stuff from german comic artists.

Marvel Exclusiv 68 - Daredevil Dekalog

I got this for half price. It took me quite some time to find this particular comic dealer but I just had to go here first. Last time I found his table almost at the end when I had already bought three trades that I would have gotten more cheaper from him. And when you have such a small comic buying budget like me every Euro counts. This time it was really hard because there were no tables with the usual US books which are normally my points of reference.

Additionally since some of the usual comic dealers were absent other dealers took over their tables and a lot of guys got shuffled around. So I had a hard time finding some points of orientation.

The Marvel Exclusiv line is one of the comic lines in Germany that put out Marvel stuff but normally they are too expensive for me. I gave up reading Daredevil around issue 25 ( I think ) but I have been following the series since Brian Michael Bendis took over in the german translations. I´m still not sure if that´s a good thing or not since it has less words than in the original version. Bendis can get a little wordy sometimes....and that´s putting it mildly.

Spider - Man Kravens letzte Jagd

This is probably going to be a christmas present. I also got this for half price. I was thinking of possibly getting the Astro City trade TARNISHED ANGEL as a present but when I returned to the table it was already sold.

I already have this story....twice. Or more ? I got the individual issues when they came out but I´m not sure if I got them all. Then I bought it again when it was reprinted in one of the Condor pocket books. And the last time I was in Erlangen I bought a reprint that was reduced because it had a printing error. But since PANINI recently did a reprint of it I thought it would be nice to have a readable version in german without any printing errors. I would have preffered the hardcover version but I couldn´t find it.

PANINI made a survey this year about which were the best Spidey stories and Kraven´s Last Hunt came out as the number one contender. It really is the story most german comic readers remember fondly. So if I don´t find any other presents for christmas this will be my present for my sister or her husband. They should at least read one good Spidey story in their life and now they should already know the black costume from the latest Spidey movie.

    Marvel Exclusiv 39 - X - Force Hardcover

Another comic I already bought. When I did the posts about X - Force / X - Statix I remembered that I had bought this comic but I gave it away as a birthday present to a person I barely knew. I was working at this job as a call center agent ( which is german slang for someone working on the phone ) and I was just transfered to a new station and the woman who was my new advisor mentioned that it was her birthday. Being the comic freak I was I got her this book the next day just to surprise her. I don´t even know If she liked it since her brother had just taken it away from her and I got fired before I could find out if she ever read it. Someday I have to try to find some addresses of the guys working with me at that time because one of them still has a bag full of wrestling tapes I lent him.

    What can I say ? I´m a generous guy.

Anyway, I needed this book and for 8 bucks it was a real steal. Maybe this will also become a christmas present but I would like to keep it to myself. In any case I have to read it first before coming to a decision. It´s been some time since I last read it and I don´t remember too much of the stuff in it. Like I totally forgot that the first issue did not get the approval of the comics code which for Marvel was the occasion to drop the comics code altogether.

By the way I always read the comics I give away as a present first. On one side to look if there are any printing errors but on the other because I like to give new comics as presents. And since I don´t know them I have to read them to see if they are any good. And sometimes because I know that once I give them away I´m never going to see them again so I better read them first.

Hack / Slash Der erste Schnitt

Finally the critically acclaimed series Hack / Slash has found it´s way to Germany. I guess mostly due to the fact that it´s going to be a major motion picture soon cross culs has added this little gem from Devil´s Due Publishing to it´s long list of titles. It was a special surprise for me that it´s in color since so far all the books from cross cult I knew were in black and white. But I also have seen their reprint of Mike Mignola´s magnificient FAFHRD AND THE GREY MOUSER adaption which is also in color.

The cross cult hardcover always represent a nice package with the hardcover and the nice extras but I just don´t like the smaller format. I really would prefer the normal US sized comic fromat which is the reason that I´m glad that I bought all the SIN CITY stuff in the original version. It´s nice on your shelf and since Dark Horse copied the german version for the new reprints of Sin City I guess they are also big fans of the new format but I like it more old style.

One of the positive things is that since the format is much more like a normal book size it´s better if you want to give it away as a christmas present to the comic muggels out there ( we really need a word like that for all the non comic reading people out there ). Which I´m not sure if I will do it. I have to read it first before I reach a verdict.

All in all this time the comic fair was just the usual but I got some more reading stuff till I finally get more comics from my pull list. There are still big gaps in my comic collection as the reorders of the stuff I missed is coming slowly. Ah, the live of a comic reader.....

That´s all for today and next time I can hopefully wrap up this month´s solicitations.
