My second Don Newton BATMAN spotlight !

Well, the bad news is that my faithful readers have to wait a bit longer for the Steve Englehart / Marshall Rogers / Terry Austin BATMAN post.

The good news is that it's because this post is all Don Newton BATMAN / DETECTIVE COMICS artwork so - everybody loses and everybody wins.

As I mentioned in Yesterday's Don Newton tribute I didn't have enough material for another Don Newton solo post so it looked like this would be a double feature with Marshall Rogers but Today I gave it one more go to the internet to see if I could find more original Don Newton artwork and not only did I find what I needed - I even had to leave a few pages out.

As for the Marshall Rogers spotlight at first it looked like it would be still a double feature - this time with Dick Giordano - but at the moment the prospects for a Marshall Rogers solo post are looking good. It seems that Dick Giordano will have to team up with Irv Novick or another BATMAN artist although there may be some surprises ahead and he may get a post of his own since he inked the post CRISIS ON INFINTE EARTHS Superman reboot MAN OF STEEL by John Byrne ( while Terry Austin did the inks for the regular SUPERMAN title which gave both books a distinctive look ).

But that is in our future. Today we have more BATMAN / DETECTIVE COMICS art by Don Newton ( with a page from BATMAN FAMILY issue 13 thrown in but I couldn't resist a page with the O G Batgirl ) and there are two things I have to add : first up it was almost impossible to find a cover done by Don Newton. I don't know if DC Comics didn't have faith in his capabilities as a cover artist or if they wanted to lighten his workload to keep the interior art coming out in time but fact is that during his tenure on the Batman books the covers are mostly done by other artists.

The second thing is that since I found a lot of the artwork in this post Today the pages of certain issues are sadly split up between Yesterday's post and this one. As longtime blog visitors know that is something I try to avoid but because it is too difficult to go back into Yesterday's post and reshuffle all the pages I hope my audience will give me a bit leeway with this post. And that's all for Today so let's get right to the good part.
