TALES FROM THE KRYPTONIAN: June 2023

It's been almost four years since I posted an entire issue of Jim Aparo's iconic run on THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD and almost five years since I did one with original artwork from that series so I am very glad to bring you issue 170 in which the Dark Knight Detective is teaming up with Nemesis.

As usual this post is a direct result of work I did for another post where I came upon original pages by Jim Aparo for THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD.

Longtime followers of the blog already know what a huge fan I am of Jim Aparo so having to get rid of that part of my comicbook collection was quite difficult especially since I had not only a huge chunk of his output but also a few special hidden gems. Thankfully I managed not only to rebuy the first three hardcovers of BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS ( DC Comics best Batman title. Come on DC, when are you going to reprint the rest of the series ? ) but also volume two and three of THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD - THE BRONZE AGE ( DC Comics best team - up book. ).

In previous posts I have written that the page count for an omnibus book should correlate with the factor of ten to give the readers an adequate purchase price / page count ratio ( for instance a book with 500 pages should not cost more than 50 bucks ) but in this case I am glad that they are not thicker because they are heavy enough as it is. Coming back to the pages of THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD that I found as usual I went back to previous Jim Aparo posts to eliminate those pages that I have already posted but they were less than I expected since it seems that yours truly has not posted all of my Jim Aparo material from my old picture archive.

Anyway, as regular readers know I like to keep pages from the same issue in one post so when I kept finding more and more pages from issue 170 the question which pages to select for the post became a moot point.

However I did not find all of the pages which would have been okay since issue 170 has 25 pages instead of 17 pages which was the norm back then so I would have been below the " 23 pictures per post " rule but since I don't like incomplete things - and it is a rare occasion to find almost an entire issue - I have decided to include all colour pages even if I don't have the corresponding original art for all of them. Speaking of colour pages, the only ones I could find are of very low quality which is a bit disappointing because you might think that with the entire series being out in a restored format some better scans might be available. One last thing I want to mention is that like all german readers I first read this in BATMAN SUPERBAND NR. 13 : NEMESIS A NEW ADVERSARY FOR BATMAN ?!

Now I have been thinking about casting Jair in a comicbook movie and apart from the usual suspects I realized that she would be perfect as Vicky Spritzfest ( Fucktoria Squirthard in the english translation ) the Busenwunder reporter for Notzucht TV that would have been introduced in the third issue of my discontinued adult comicbook series VERSAUTE BETTGESCHICHTEN.
