Now before we come to who that is ( one hint : it´s neither Green Lantern nor Hal Jordan ) you probably are asking yourself why I should have done this Yesterday and how that would have saved me a lot of grief.
And I did explain it but as usual that part got too long so I put it into a separate post which will be up Tomorrow . Anyway, let´s get back to the main topic of this post and the aforementioned childhood hero of mine. It is of course an artist, one with whom I was very familiar before I ever heard the names of John Byrne, Jose Luis Garcia Lopez or George Perez.
As some may have gathered from the title of this post I am talking about Joe Staton, who was the regular artist on GREEN LANTERN when I was reading the german translations by the Ehapa Verlag back in the 1980s.
But Joe Staton did not just draw GREEN LANTERN, he was everywhere in the DC Universe, from SUPERMAN, SUPERBOY and the LEGION OF SUPER - HEROES to other mainstream heroes like DOCTOR FATE or WONDER WOMAN to offbeat characters like METAL MEN, PLASTIC MAN or the DOOM PATROL.
He also did a lot of the Earth 2 stories involving the Justice Society of America, the Huntress but most importantly he laid the foundation of Power Girl depicting her earliest stories. And while he sadly didn´t make her chest size grow like Wally Wood he drew a very alluring Power Girl.
Besides all this he stayed in the vicinity of the Green Lantern Corps, drawing classic stories we all know like when John Stewart proposed to Katma Tui, the whole weird love thing with Hal Jordan and Arisia ( In the original story Arisia was a teenager who became infatuated with Hal so she used her Green Lantern ring to give herself a porn star body so she could bang Hal´s brains out. Both of them. In hindsight the story creeped even the powers that be out and they came up with the explanation that women on Arisia´s home planet age differently so she was older than Hal. Giving the whole thing a totally different but still creepy vibe since Hal was now a gigolo. Yep, who would have thought that Deuce Bigelow and Hal Jordan would have something in common ? ) and of course the first stories involving the one, the only, the best accept no substitutes Green Lantern of space sector 2418 Guy Gardner when the title of the book changed from just GREEN LANTERN to THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS.
Speaking about the main guy, Joe Staton also was active during the post Crisis era and while MILLENIUM didn´t turn out to be the big thing DC thought it would become he also worked on the most important Guy Gardner stories EVER, GUY GARDNER REBORN with Gerard Jones ( not only one of my favorite GREEN LANTERN stories or favorite GUY GARDNER stories but one of my favorite stories of all times - period ) and the first year of the subsequent GUY GARDNER series by writer Chuck Dixon .
With so many titles Joe Staton worked on ( and that´s not counting all the comic books he illustrated at Charlton Comics or Marvel ) it was really difficult to choose just one but as you can see from the title we are going with classic Green Lantern. I hope I can turn this into a regular feature and continue with more about Guy Gardner and especially Power Girl.
Since it has been ten days since my last post there are a few birthdays that have backlogged and we are starting the list of cult sirens of notice with a big one as Bo Derek celebrated her 62nd birthday on the 20th of November. She appeared in a few movies when I was a teenager but the one that really put her on the map and forever cast her as the true gold standard of bodily perfection all other women strove for was of course " 10 " the comedy with Dudley Moore in which she played - well, a perfect 10 .
I don´t know how common it was to rate women on a scale from 1 to 10 before the movie but afterwards ALL men were doing it. Only from that moment on 10 meant Bo Derek. Yes, when I was in school she was the biggest erotic movie star with photos in in all the men´s magazines like PLAYBOY or LUI. I remember that I went to see BOLERO in the cinema which back then all guys in my class did. The movie was not that great in hindsight but it was all Bo Derek all nude. What more could you want ? I´m not sure if I also went to the theater to see that awful TARZAN movie which was in full effect of the downward spiral of her career. I mean Bo Derek was also fully naked in that one but unlike BOLERO the rest of the movie just dragged it all down. Strangely enough what was the begin of the end for Bo Derek was the beginning of Mile O´Keeffe´s movie career.
On November the 22nd, another perfect 10 turned 60, MILF Jamie Lee Curtis. Jamie was not always a sex symbol and started out in horror movies like Halloween and The Fog where she quickly became very famous for her impressive set of lungs as one of Hollywood´s scream queens. A lot of other actresses auditioned for the role and while I could definitely see Demi Moore in that part ( who is the number one in my Top Movie Stripteases thanks to her spectacular performance in Striptease ) or even Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeiffer, Geena Davis, Rosanna Arquette, Madonna, Jennifer Jason Leigh and possibly Lea Thompson or Sharon Stone I thank God that it wasn´t given to Emma Thompson, Melanie Griffith, Debra Winger, Anette Benning or Joan Cusak.

We are staying with tv programs from my youth but we are making the jump from America to Germany with Ilja Richter, the man, the myth, the legend. He turned 66 and for those of us who grew up during the 70s and 80s he was a constant companion either through the movies he appeared in or through the cult show Disco where his intro Lights out, spot on ! became a part of german culture. He is best known for his historic 17 year run on Uncanny X - Men and the following spin off books within Marvel´s mutant universe that not only saved the book from cancellation but put the X - Men on the map as the non plus ultra team book in comicdom and cemented their status as Marvel´s premiere book for decades. And while I have stopped reading Marvel´s mutant missives since the last good x - book All New X - Men decided to bow down to SJW pressure and turn Iceman gay I have enjoyed Chris Claremont´s stories for decades. I have written quite a number of posts on the subject so I will not bore my readers with listing them all and only add the links for the latest ones about his great collaborations with artists of the caliber of John Byrne and John Romita Jr . I also did a spotlight post, the first part of the Marvel Visionaries : Chris Claremont that I still hope to continue.
Just one day later, on the 26th of November Dan Green celebrated his anniversary so I took the opportunity to kill two mutants with one stone and did a double feature last year about two of my favorite artists he inked on Claremont´s Uncanny X - Men : John Romita Jr and Marc Silvestri.
We start Today´s birthdays with Jennifer O´Dell who turns 44. You may have seen her on Renegade, Silk Stalkings, Profiler, Beverly Hill 90210 with Tiffany Amber Theissen - who has the best real breasts in Hollywood according to Howard Stern - Charmed with sexbomb Alyssa Milano, NCIS, Bones, iCarly with the incredibly hot Jennette McCurdy or Modern Family but I know her best as " Va Va Va Voom " Veronica from the tv adaption of Sir Arthur Conan Dyole´s The Lost World of the 1990s. It´s one of my Mom´s favorite shows so I got it on DVD so that she can watch it over and over again. I watch the show in the original language because the actor´s voices are very different from the german voices.
Kirk Acevedo also appeared on 24, Numbers, The Mentalist, Grimm, Person of Interest, the shortlived Fastlane with Tiffany Amber Theissen , The Walking Dead, Marvel´s Agents of S. H. I. E. L. D. and currently Arrow.
He plays gangster Ricardo Diaz on the show who is supposed to be Richard Dragon, Master of Kung - Fu. Don´t worry if you have never heard of him though since none of Richard Dragon´s backstory has made it on the show and there is no connection between Ricardo Diaz and Richard Dragon.
This is one of the instances where they are just name dropping without anything of the comics making it onto the show. In the comics Richard Dragon was not a villain but the DC universe´s foremost martial arts expert who taught a few heroes including Black Canary, Question and Batman.
Speaking of DC heroes who appeared in a different form on the CW shows, Humberto Ramos turns 48 and I have my brother to thank for discovering this artist because he brought me issue 4 of Impulse from the comic shop which featured a brand new villain White Lightning with a nice cleavage.
I immediately went to the comic shop to get issues 1 to 3 - and see if there was more cleavage - and the series went on my pull list. The best part are the first years by Humberto and it was here that I discovered and fell in love with Jenny Ognats a.k.a. speedster XS from the 31st century where she is a member of the Legion of Super - Heroes. She appears in the latest season of The Flash although they also changed her a lot from the comic books. Firstly they have whitewashed her - of which I am not a big fan - and they also changed her name to Nora Allen. For those who want a bit more backstory on Nora Allen, she is not one of the Tornado Twins who were members of the Legion since their names are Dawn and Don Allen and Nora Allen didn´t appear in DC comics continuity until 2017.
Coming back to Humberto Ramos, he is still active at Marvel ( I think ) but the last time I tried to read one of the mutant books he was on I got a severe headache. I just can´t make heads or tails of the current mutant Disneyverse. Humberto also worked at iMAGE where he published Out There and Crimson, the Cliffhanger series most people forgot but which was the only one that came out consistently and on time. At Marvel he did the art on one of my favorite Wolverine stories and some of the art in the last good Spider - Man story although I have to add that the way they killed off Silver Sable was one of the most undignified and unnecessary deaths in the entire history of the Marvel universe. I got the impression that Dan Slott tried to give the story more weight and could not think of any other way. Shame on you Mister Slott. Not only did you commit the atrocious inferior Spider - Ock nightmare, you threw away one of Marvel´s best female characters. With the way they are highlighting female super heroes at Disney right NOW you might think he got more flack for that.
We are staying with women with a killer body although we are going from the fictional to the real as Rebecca Ferratti celebrates her 54th birthday.

We come to the sad part of the entertainment block with the first entry in our Dearly Departed section with James Avery. He appeared on most tv shows I saw like Simon & Simon, Hardcastle and McCormick, The Dukes of Hazard, Street Hawk, The A - Team, Moonlighting, Night Court with 80s Power Girl Markie Post, Amazing Stories, Dallas, Charmed with Alyssa Milano and Star Trek : Enterprise with Jolene Blalock as T´Pol, the sex massage pro with the inbuilt Pon Farr automatic nympho mode . He also appeared in Fletch and Beastmaster II : Through the Portal of Time with Kari Wuhrer who is Gypsy in my Casting the Justice League movie series.
Kari is best know for her role of Maggie Beckett on the sci fi cult show Sliders. She was put on the cast as the boner guarantee for the male audience and they got more than their money´s worth in the Wild West episode where she´s almost spilling out of her snug saloon girl corsage.
She also was in Hot Blooded, a really bad movie that doesn`t even have full frontal nudity. Nevertheless it´s one of my favorite movies with Kari because she looks really hot in this one. You get to see a lot of cleavage and boobs and in the first sex scene on the bed you can see her sexy ass.
And because one scene where she´s at a gas station and pulls down her leather top to make the desk clerk horny. She´s really pulling it in all directions so you get to see her full boobs. I have no evidence but I swear I can see some nipple. I bet Kari had to do this scene a hundred times as the crew was sabotaging all takes just to see her boobs again and again.
In any case, I had this scene on a video tape on a loop and I must have heard the words " This material just doesn´t breathe ! " a hundred times.
Like I said there is no full frontal nudity in this cineastic masterpiece but you get a bit of sideboob in a scene that was heavily cut on german tv.
They cut parts from when she´s using a whip to get into the mood and pours hot wax on his body. They also cut some parts from where she´s on top of him which I didn´t know until I found the movie on the internet.
Damn you, german tv for keeping Kari Wuhrer´s sideboob away from me !
James Avery also did voice acting as Jim Rhodes on Iron Man or Spider - Man in Chuck Norris : Karate Commandos, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fist of the Northstar, Rambo, Super Friends The Legendary Super Powers Show, Superman, Gargoyles, Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, The New Scooby Doo Mysteries as well as on A Pup Named Scooby Doo.

Of course a big part of that show´s success and continued appeal around the world ( there are probably only a few people on the face of the planet who can´t recite the lyrics to the title song in their sleep ) is Tatyana Ali who grew from a cute little girl into an incredible sexbomb over the course of that series and who got to show her musical skills.
Much to the chagrin of the show´s producers she really bOObed all out in later movie appearances like The Clown at Midnight or Fall Into Darkness .

Yes, fan service is not as new as some people might want you to think and Heather Thomas mainly got the part because of her absolutely amazing bikini figure. OMG !
Like most growing teenagers I watched that show religiously but the biggest part of its appeal for me were sexbombs like Heather Thomas and Markie Post who didn´t appear as often in a bikini as I would have liked.
Well, Heather Thomas did since that was her main purpose on the show but Markie Post´s appearances in bikinis on The Fall Guy were very few .
80s Power Girl Markie Post is probably the best known cult siren on the blog because not only have I done many re - posts of her original post .
I also keep mentioning her in other posts and her original post is in the Top Ten Posts widget that appears on every post. Since I have done so many different versions it is not so tragic that I did not do a re - post last year even though I did the last version of her cult siren entry in 2016 .
We already have two masters of Kung Fu so I want to round up the martial arts trifecta with a final shoutout to another dragon, the great Bruce Lee.
Since I know that my readers like Top Tens I wanted to include one about Bruce Lee. There was one with top ten awesome things about Bruce Lee but I don´t think there was anything that is not common knowledge at this point. There was one with the top 15 martial arts movies you should watch but they did not explain a lot and it was just a compilation of short movie scenes. This one is much better and don´t worry that they have Bruce Lee at number three. He also has a second entry in this countdown.
