Man Out Of Time Monday with Sal Buscema

This post was supposed to go online as a STAR SPANGLED SUNDAY WITH SAL BUSCEMA Yesterday but for better or worse it has been delayed one full day. But even if my posts get delayed they will not be stopped so here we are starting off the week with a look back at Sal Buscema's run on the steadfast sentinel of liberty, Captain America a.k.a. Steve Rogers.

And yes, I know that the cover above was drawn by John Byrne and not by Sal Buscema but that is because while Sal Buscema did a lot of issues for CAPTAIN AMERICA he wasn't always the cover artist for those issues.

So my alternatives were to use a cover from a different issue that has nothing to do with the issues I am spotlighting in this post or use a cover from those issues which is done by another artist. And since there will be quite a number of posts about this run I opted for the latter. Also if you have to choose an artist to substitute for Sal Buscema John Byrne is not a bad choice since he has drawn everything within the Marvel universe - plus some from the DC universe and creator owned series - including a too short but memorable run on CAPTAIN AMERICA with Roger Stern.

Now when I say that the post has been delayed for better or worse that is because Yesterday - just as I was trying to finish up on preparing the material for this post - I suddenly couldn't access the main website that provides the coloured pages for my popular Black And White posts. At least I hope that they are popular. Anyway, it was just before midday and there were a few more issues to go but I thought I could finish it after eating. And I didn't want my pizza to get cold. After being forced to go to Spain I had to say goodbye to a lot of things I had gotten used to back in Germany ( like hot water, functioning toilets, normal heating, clean rooms and that kind of things ) so I am trying to hold onto the few joys that still make life worth living and pizza is one of them. So after eating my pizza I wanted to continue but no matter what I tried the website was blocked and I also could not find this material on any other website.

If it hadn't been for Tom Brevoort's blog THE TOM BREVOORT EXPERIENCE where he writes about a lot of issues of CAPTAIN AMERICA illustrated by Sal Buscema I could not do this post. And here is where the for better part comes in because he has scans from the actual comicbooks on the blog and as longtime followers of TALES FROM THE KRYPTONIAN already know I always prefer to post pages in the original colouring because for my money the new colouring on comics can be too grell and too shiny.

So what is in this post ? With so many issues to choose from how could I bring it down to a manageable 23 pages ? One possibility is concentrate on iconic issues with a lasting impact on Captain America or the Marvel universe in general. And there have been plenty of those amongst Sal Buscema's tenure on the book, from the return of the Captain America from the 1950s to the uncanny X - Men guest - starring in the book while their series was on hiatus which led to the SECRET EMPIRE story that ended with Steve Rogers quitting being Captain America and adopting the new crime fighting identity of Nomad to Captain America going in search of his real past as Steve Rogers and trying to figure out which of his memories were real and which ones were implanted to prevent the enemy to get vital information about his life - if he ever gets captured.

Or I could go with some issues that I have actually read and which have importance to me on a personal level. As frequent blog readers already might have guessed I chose option c which is to do both. So the issues in this post are from the time when Captain America was researching his past and I didn't read the original US version nor the translated versions in german or spanish but in a french comicbook of all things. Now I have written about the french comicbooks I got during a student exchange with France before - in fact I did a whole post on the HULK issues I got there and which pages from the original comic were omitted or cut way back in 2016 - and all the issues in this post were included in the Captain America comic Qui Est Steve Rogers ? from the publisher Aredit Artima.

Where we have Captain America going up against the evil machinations of the Corporation, a criminal organisation that was introduced by Jack Kirby during his second run on CAPTAIN AMERICA and which was active in issues with Captain America and Hulk ( conveniently both drawn by Sal Buscema at that time so when they did a crossover they reused entire pages ), Machine Man for a time and also clashed with Jack Of Hearts.

Speaking about the Corporation, one of the reasons why these issues are so memorable to me ( even tough I first read them in french ) is the Corporation's monster Animus which makes its first appearance in issue 223 and is a super evolved human being that combines mental powers that scientists predict men may develop in the future with the brute strength and aggressiveness of a caveman and is just a very cool design.

Finally a Thorsday with Sal Buscema - again

It has been over nine years since my last post on Sal Buscema's excellent stint on THE MIGHTY THOR where he finished the much applauded run by Walter Simonson who was still writing the book so it's high time to return to these battlefields with Today's instalment for SAL BUSCEMA MONTH.

Now attentive blog visitors may have noticed that the THOR cover above was NOT drawn by Sal Buscema but rather by Walter Simonson and those with an extremely good memory might remember that I already used it .

Which are two reasons why I should not be using this cover. The reason why I decided to ignore my rules and use it anyways is that while Walter Simonson left the art to Sal Buscema because he was simply burned out he still did all of the covers EXCEPT the cover for issue 372 and I already used that one in my very first post for SAL BUSCEMA MONTH. And even if I would be so inclined to use the cover for issue 372 again that would be in my next posting which will include artwork from issues 371 and 372.

As our last post about this era of Thor history was more at the beginning Today we take a look at the end of Sal Buscema's tenure on THE MIGHTY THOR with some choice pages from issues 375, 376, 378, 379, 381 and 382 the final Thor issue by Sal Buscema. I don't think I am going to say too much about the story since I don't want to spoil it for anybody who has not read them even if these issues came out 38 years ago. What I am going to mention is that one reason for picking this particular story is to showcase the real Thor, Loki, Executioner and Hel - or at least Marvel Comics version of them - for all those readers out there who only know the bastardized versions from the Disney movies. Because Hel is Loki's daughter not Odin's daughter, Loki is the god of evil not just the god of mischief, the Valkyries are not Asgard's elite female warrior force and Thor does not make quips every five seconds and is a god not a demigod like Hercules. I don't know where these false facts come from but you hear everywhere that Thor is a demigod and that is not true. Thor is a full blown god. His father is Odin and his mother in norse mythology is the earth goddess Jordi while in the Marvel Comics it is either Odin's wife Frigga - which Stan Lee did make up - or the earth goddess Gaia.

Now Zachi Noy is pretty famous in Germany - at least for people from my generation for starring in the series of erotic comedies EIS AM STIEL ( Lemon Popsicle in english ) which were produced by Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan which had like a dozen or so sequels and not only did the movies contribute greatly to Cannon Films becoming an unstoppable force in the 80s they also gave german Busenwunder Sibylle Rauch a big career boost. She starred in a lot of erotic movies but the EIS AM STIEL movies were the most watched at that time. They follow a trio of friends on a quest to loose their virginity and as usual hijinks and breasts ensue.

Sibylle used her big popularity to further her film career and start as a singer ( this was when megabusty singers like italian all natural 40D - 24 - 36 pop sensation Sabrina " Bouncing Action " Salerno, polish 46F ( !!! ) - 23 - 33 adult model Danuta , italian 43D - 21 - 35 PLAYBOY nude model Angela Cavagna , italian 42D - 24 - 35 glamour model Fanny Cadeo, 46E ( !!! ) - 23 - 37 sex symbol extraordinaire Brigitte Nielsen or british 40D - 24 - 35 bra - buster and most famous page 3 girl in the entire world Samantha Fox became stars thanks to the dominance of music videos ).

She later became one of the most successful porn stars with one of the biggest german porn companies and her sales records breaking movie BORN TO LOVE guest starred british porn superstar Sarah Louise Young .

GEILE SCHWESTERN : SYLVIE & SIBYLLE, JETZT RAUCHTS ERST RECHT !

But Sibylle topped even the huge success of this megaseller with SISTERS IN LOVE where she co - starred with her younger sister Sylvie Rauch who had appeared in a few erotic movies before doing porn with her sister.

Sylvie also starred in a few solo skin flicks but her most successful film were the ones where she appeared alongside her sister Sibylle Rauch.

Speaking of Sibylle, she was the publisher - as well as the face and boobs - of the german HUSTLER magazine from 1992 till 1995. She did a lot of cocaine and I thought that she had died back in 1997 but apparently she survived her suicide attempt and is still working and appearing in films.
