At this point I thought I would be writing about the Jim Aparo Artist's Edition but since that book was rescheduled to the end of November and then to December and now nobody has a f - word - ing idea when it will come out I am extending X - MEN MONTH and finally writing about what might be my favourite X - Men issue of all times, UNCANNY X - MEN 328.
The story is written by Scott Lobdell who for me is one of the criminally underappreciated writers of the X - Men universe. He and Fabian Nicieza were tasked with steering the mutant ship when the biggest and hottest artists all left Marvel Comics to form iMAGE Comics which may be one of the reasons why their run on the x - books is not as revered as others.
Because a lot of comicbook readers also left Marvel Comics - or at least the mutant franchise - for iMAGE Comics. Anyway, it was about this time that a young upstart by the name of Joe Madureiras came on board and really came into his own during the AGE OF APOCALYPSE mega crossover.
I totally plan on doing a separate post on AGE OF APOCALYPSE - once I have enough material for a proper post - but since there will be a video about this in the pop culture trivia / cult siren section of this post I don't want to write too much about the story since I don't want to spoiler it.
What I am going to say is that it is not only one of my personal favourite X - MEN crossovers but also of a lot of comicbook fans and comicbook critics alike. Although I have to say that this is one of these cases where the fans liked it first and later on the critics came around to like this.
When Marvel Comics did the crossover cancelling an entire line of books and restarting with eight brand new series with a number one was an unprecedented move and it could have been the final nail in the coffin of the x - books. But instead it reinvigorated the franchise and the sales.
I think that one of the things that sets AGE OF APOCALYPSE apart from all the other crossovers that followed is that it was manageable. Okay, so it did go through several - new - x - titles BUT you didn't have to read them all to enjoy the full story. Granted IF you read them all you got a better view of this new alternate reality but some of the books contained just side quests which were interesting but not really crucial to get the gist of the story. There also was the X - UNIVERSE two part prestige format series drawn by none other than Carlos Pacheco that dealt with what the rest of the characters from the Marvel universe who were not mutants were doing for those who were curious but it was not essential reading.
The main part of AGE OF APOCALYPSE was happening in AMAZING X - MEN written by Fabian Nicieza and drawn by Andy Kubert and ASTONISHING X - MEN written by Scott Lobdell and drawn by Joe Madureiras who leaned heavily into his love for manga especially when redesigning the X - Men and X - Women. For a lot of people this was their first exposure to the manga aesthetics since back then manga publications had not arrived in the public mainstream. At least not in such a big way like it has Today.
Aside from the new looks for Marvel's merry band of mutants the story also introduced alternate versions of characters from the 616 timeline most prominent a heroic version of Sabretooth ( we will return to him - although in his regular villain version - in a moment ), my new favourite X - Men Morph and absolute fan favourite Blink, the breakout star of the event. Blink had been introduced in The Phalanx Covenant where she became super popular through one shining moment of heroism. There are a few characters in comicbooks who have this one moment of glory or sacrifice that cements them forever as one of the great ones and for Blink that happened with the phalanx. But it was also the end of Blink's story much to the chagrin of countless comicbook fans around the world so when the chance presented itself to bring her back - and in a kickass version to boot - the guys at Marvel Comics didn't think twice about it.
After her appearance in AGE OF APOCALYPSE Blink had her own four issue mini series before becoming the leader of the EXILES, one of Marvel's more obscure mutant books. It had the potential to become one of their biggest hits - a team with a changing roster of mutants from different alternate realities going through the multiverse trying to correct changes in the timeline - but I guess the series demanded that the readers had an intimate knowledge of the Marvel universe which was its biggest strength but also its biggest weakness. Also not having a regular artist - or at least not a very good regular artist - over long stretches of the series did not help either. I got big into the book once one of my favourite artists - the great Paul Pelletier ( who also had worked on THE FLASH , TEEN TITANS, FANTASTIC FOUR, SHE - HULK, AQUAMAN, SUPERBOY AND THE REAVERS and CrossGen's NEGATION ) - took over art duties. His run was excellent but it kept being interrupted by a few artists I didn't care much about.
SABRETOOTH AT THE CRADLE or I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER
Coming back to Sabretooth, as I already mentioned in my Psylocke post from March of 2023 ( which I am still trying to finish ) as well as in my two Gambit spotlights ( yes, who would have thought that I of all people would write not one but two Gambit posts but then I also did a spotlight on Rob Liefeld's tenure on NEW MUTANTS / X - FORCE so you never know ) there was a time when Professor Charles Xavier was keeping Sabretooth locked up at the x - mansion trying to cure him while also using him as a new version of the danger room. During this time his most interesting interactions were with Gambit or when he was talking to the other team members about Gambit. Because while Gambit's big dark secret had not come out yet at that particular time it had already been hinted at that there was a history between Gambit and Sabretooth and it was not good.
We got a glimpse of it in issue 34 of the adjective - less X - MEN - and you can read most of the issue in my second Gambit spotlight - and the events were picked up in UNCANNY X - MEN 326 which came out a year later and served as a kind of lead in to the story we are talking about.
This issue already hinted at the possibility that Sabretooth was not as mentally impaired as he appeared to be and so things came to a rather explosive culmination in UNCANNY X - MEN 328. The main players in this greek drama of epic proportions are Sabretooth and one of my favourite x - girls, Boom Boom the suicide blonde with the stripper name and the skin tight wardrobe - but especially the huge breasts - that go with it.
Since I have already written about her at length in my Rob Liefeld post I can skip the part about her ( although I make no promises in regards to the bonus section of this post ) which I am sure will delight some of my readers and come right to the interaction between Sabretooth and our Boomer which leads to a donnybrook between Sabretooth and Psylocke which has one of the most gut wrenching cliffhangers in X - Men history.

Now I thought that I had already written a few times about S Club 7 and its most prominent member - at least for me - Rachel Stevens but as it turns out I only mentioned them once and that is definitely not enough for a british Busenwunder of her calibre - pun intended. So much more than just a pop tart, beauteous brunette bra buster Rachel Stevens who is, in her native England, about as big a sex symbol as one can get. And rightly so. Plucked from obscurity at age 15 after winning a modelling competition, she embarked on a pop - music career after landing a spot in the girly group S Club 7. Racking up number - one singles along with shaking her 38C rack, Rachel and mates prettied up the BBC channels with saucy shows S Club 7 in Miami and S Club 7 in Hollywood and even made their way over the pond to Germany where they landed on VIVA TV. Rachel Stevens quickly became my guilty pleasure and she kept little Subzero´s eyes glued to the tv set with her 38C - 24 - 33 measurements that turned every video of The S Club Show into The Sex Club Show.
Well, she and blonde band member Jo O´Meara or like I called her Blow Jo who was definitely giving me some teenage Power Girl vibes with her bonerinducing Playmate Of The Year pornstar hardbody and I won´t lie, Jo was giving me as hard an erection as raunchy Rachel if not harder.
The other girls in the group never did much for me but there were a few episodes where Rachel and Jo were wearing bikinis and I would have given anything for a threesome weekend with those blow up sex dolls.
Funnily enough I remember there being more episodes with the girls in bikinis but from all the shows I only found some bikini episodes in the Miami 7 show and the volleyball episode is the one with the longest part that has the girls - especially Rachel Stevens and Jo O'Meara - in a bikini.

Well, not sure what Marvel are doing. They published three volumes of the Marvel Master works X-Men, Dr Strange and Fantastic Four and after almost a year volume 4 for all three series have not appeared and you look online "February 2025". I got my money for advanced ordering back and I'm hoping this will not turn into another Essentials fiasco and they have cancelled. They seem to be doing this a lot. Say what you like about Jim Shooter but iof he gave a date for a book to appear -it APPEARED!!!
Of course I meant Mighty Marvel Masterworks and guess what? As with Essentials and Marvel Masterworks -"The "Mighty Marvel Masterworks" series has been cancelled, not merely delayed, due to declining sales and a reassessment of the 6x9 "graphic novel" (GN) format post-pandemic. " They are using that same tired old excuse -with Essentials they never had the pandemic to blame. Just very stupid people running a company.
