Yes, I can't believe it myself but the day I thought would never come has finally arrived. Because Today of all things we are going to talk about the man, the myth, the legend, none other than Rob Liefeld and his arrival on NEW MUTANTS - with the 86th issue - that should not only change the direction of the book but also Marvel Comics itself and with his fellow iMAGE co - founders even the course of the entire comicbook industry.
Keeping in mind that in Germany Today marks the start of the Fasching season ( Germany's version of Halloween only less spooky and with more beer and women dancing in short skirts ) which is every year at the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th minute of the 11th hour my faithful followers in Germany might think this is a joke. But no, I'm serious here.
Like I said, I never expected to write this post but then again I also never expected to write a spotlight on Gambit - or Gambito like they call him in Spain and how I prefer to call him - and I have already written two .
So what is the genesis of this post ? It goes back to a post I DEFINITELY planned to do : my spotlight on Psylocke which hopefully will get at least one more entry. Since my latest posts have been a bit problematic with blogger putting age restrictions on them left and right and even setting my post on CHAOS ! COMICS Purgatori back to the draft version ( so I hope my regular visitors read it while it was still up ) and I have been going over all of my Halloween posts that I started last year I thought that it would be about time that I finished my oldest unfinished posts.
As it happens to be that was my Psylocke spotlight post and I have not only replaced a lot of videos that have been deleted by YouTube but also added quite a few new ones. And what do I get for all of my troubles ?
Another age restriction of which I am not quite sure how I deserved this because there is nothing in that post that has not appeared in any other posts. In any case, while continuing the Psylocke post I had to look for a few new pictures - as you so often have to do - and while doing just that I came across a few original art pieces by Rob Liefeld for NEW MUTANTS.
Now as usual I put these in the Rob Liefeld folder but I was surprised how much material had accumulated. So I thought this would be something none of my readers would expect so after spending another day looking for enough original Rob Liefeld art to make a proper post here we are.
And while I never expected to make a post about Rob Liefeld all of my longtime followers know that I am always prepared to talk about NEW MUTANTS which in my opinion is THE best team book Marvel Comics has ever published, past, present or future. Because I have written a few posts on that subject but let's get back to the beginning of my journey.
I first encountered THE NEW MUTANTS - like so many american comics - first in the spanish editions since the german publications were always decades behind what the rest of Europe published. Bob McLeod, who co - created the New Mutants with Chris Claremont was the regular artist and I have already written two birthday posts on him, one in 2016 and one in 2019 where I also touched on some of the other artists who have worked on the title like Rick Leonardi ( who also got his spotlight post) or Bill Sienkiewicz ( who not only got his own spotlight post for his work on NEW MUTANTS but also two for his stint on MOON KNIGHT ). And then there is the second part of my Arthur Adams entry for X - MEN MONTH .
So we have already covered a lot of artists and periods from the book.
Continuing my personal journey with THE NEW MUTANTS Bob McLeod has always been one of my favourite artists and his style was just perfect for the book. The first issues I got were not single issues however but those spanish trades they published back then which was five regular issues glued together with a cardboard wraparound cover. Pretty cheap but it got the job done. I got as many of those as I could get during my summer vacations in Spain and back in Germany I had to wait quite a few years until the Condor Verlag published the - infamous - DIE GRUPPE X pocket books which were glued very badly and fell apart after a few readings.
THE NEW MUTANTS were also some of the few titles I could get from the international newsstand at the railway station in Stuttgart although they were much farther ahead in the timeline with Butch Guice ( who sadly passed away this year ) as the regular artist and later on Bret Blevins during such big X - Men crossovers like THE FALL OF THE MUTANTS and also on INFERNO which is one of my favourite crossovers of all times.
So you can imagine that I had a few gaps in my comicbook collection and THE NEW MUTANTS was always one of the titles that I was searching for whenever I visited a comicbook convention ( back when I still could go to comicbook conventions ) and they featured quite heavily on my search list ( which back in the day every comicbook collector worth his salt was always carrying because you never knew where you would encounter a chance to fill your gaps ) until Marvel Comics finally decided to reprint the entire series. Man, the comicbook fans of Today don't know how good they have it where they can choose between getting the original back issues, an Epic Collection or even an omnibus of their favourite material.
For me I always judged the quality of a comicbook series by how much I want to continue once a new creative team comes in which with US comics is sooner or later except for a few cases where there is a fixed creative team and a limited run. With THE NEW MUTANTS we started out with Chris Claremont as a writer and Bob McLeod as the artist and I can't help it but I feel that with all the accolades Chris Claremont has gotten over the years the greatness of his contribution to the X - Men universe is still a bit underrated. Okay, you probably think that I am exaggerating a but and that his 16 year run on UNCANNY X - MEN is very celebrated. And deservedly so. But what comicbook fans of Today don't get is that he not only turned that book from a title that was cancelled into Marvel Comics bestselling flagship title - with help from Len Wein and Dave Cockrum of course. He also wrote NEW MUTANTS and EXCALIBUR or NIGHTCRAWLER and a plethora of mini series like the first WOLVERINE mini series with Frank Miller , MAGIK and more plus a lot of extra projects. You can say that for more than a 15 year period he wrote most of the mutant titles.
If Marvel Comics published a comicbook that featured a mutant during that time in 90 percent of the cases it was written by Chris Claremont.
And that's quite a lot.
That being said let's concentrate on the artists as Chris Claremont wrote the first 54 issues of the book. Bob McLeod did the original graphic novel and the first eight issues before handing art reigns over to Sal Buscema who became the regular artist until issue 17 as Bill Sienkiewicz took over with the following issue. As longtime blog followers know I am also a big fan of Sal Buscema's work since he did some of my favourite books like THE AVENGERS , THE DEFENDERS , ROM SPACEKNIGHT , MARVEL TEAM - UP, AMAZING SPIDER - MAN, SPECTACULAR SPIDER - MAN , SPIDER - GIRL , Walt Simonson's THOR run and THE INCREDIBLE HULK especially inked by Ernie Chan who also lent his inks to his brother John Buscema on CONAN THE BARBARIAN . So no, there were no complaints from me at that front.
With Bill Sienkiewicz on the other hand let's just say that it was probably a blessing that it took me so long to track down his NEW MUTANT issues as I would not have appreciated them as much in my early comicbook reading career. The first contacts I had with him was at DC Comics where he worked on some Batman related story and I did not like his art at all.
To me it looked ugly, rushed and unfinished which is why for a long time I referred to Bill Sienkiewicz as " the fastest artist alive " since it couldn't take very long to draw these awful scribbles. We all make our mistakes.
In any case, I liked him much more after having read his MOON KNIGHT issues but I only found his issues after reading the issues with the artists that followed him like Jackson Guice and Rick Leonardi. Like I said I got the american issues at the international newsstand at the railway station in Stuttgart but I didn't get every issue and there were a lot of fill - in artists so it seemed like the book had a different artist in each issue.
Which in turn made me more open to Bill Sienkiewicz' artwork once I got his issues. Then we have Bret Blevins kind of more regularly from issue 49 to issue 83 after which - finally - Rob Liefeld comes in. As regular blog visitors know I appreciate Bret Blevins a lot and I loved his SLEEPWALKER series which for me was one of Marvel Comics highlights in the 1990s.
I even liked his four issue mini series THE TROUBLE WITH GIRLS even if it was only a super censored version of the original book and you can read more about that in this post where I cast hasian 44D - 25 - 35 cosplay blow up sex doll Yaya Han as the villain Lizard Lady from that series.
And I have to say something about Jackson Guice. He is an artist where I was not the biggest fan of his early work - which for me was on the post CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Superman books - but he really clicked with me on RESURRECTION MAN and his work on CrossGen's RUSE - where 90 percent of the pages were double page spreads - just blew me away.
Okay, I know, quit stalling SUBZERO. What about Rob Liefeld ? Well, he came in after Bret Blevins stint on the book during a period in transition with a lot of fill - in artists. One thing I always say is that you have to be careful with fill - in artists because if there is one who keeps coming back he's likely to take over the book. And it's probably not the one you like the most. So I didn't mind the art by Rob Liefeld much because at the beginning it was not that different from the other fill - in artists.
But the longer he stayed on the book the weirder it became until it symbolized everything I did not like about the 90s. Yes, every negative stereotype you have heard about bad 90s comicbook art wrapped into one neat package. So I tried to keep reading - which was the collector in me who tried to keep the run intact - but with issue 88 ( that introduced Cable ) I had reached my limit so I never got to NEW MUTANTS issue 100.
Which in hindsight may have been a mistake keeping in mind how fond I am of a certain bigbreasted female team member. Yep, that's right, you can say a lot about Rob Liefeld but he sure has an eye for potential so he gave the suicide blonde with the biggest boom booms on the team plenty of screentime and the appropriate attire to go with her stripper name.
As longtime readers know Boom Boom was not only in my pick for an X - Men team she also secured herself the number one position in my first ever COMICBABE BATTLE post about the x - tremely x - rated x - babes !

ALL I WANNA DO IS ZOOMA ZOOM ON BOOM BOOM'S BOOM BOOMS !
Mutant Busenwunder Tabitha Smith is to NEW MUTANTS what Power Girl is to JUSTICE LEAGUE EUROPE - the busty mega sexbomb everybody wants to bang - and while the male team member claim that they gave her the codename Boom Boom because of her mutant power to make time delayed explosions the truth is that it was because when she hit puberty her powers were not the only things that developed greatly.

Speaking of wet t - shirts, Boobilee was also the devious mastermind who instigated the girls participation in the famous Spring Break Wet T - Shirt Contest which in certain circles became known as the Spring Break Wet T - Shirt Mutant Squirt Marathon under the pretense to collect funding for the secret mutant railroad. Of course the real reason was to get the girls - like Rahne Sinclair - drunk enough to let the boys loose on them.
Properly inebriated the girls lost all inhibitions and native american sexbomb Danielle Proudstar for example used her mutant powers of making up images from other people's desires to conjure a Playmate Of The Century body that all the drooling boys immediately lusted after.
Boom Boom on the other hand had no need of such mutant trickery since she already had the all american beachbody that was predestined to be displayed naked in front of dozen of drunk truckers so it is no wonder that she was a big hit and raised a fortune for the mutant cause. Of course another reason that she won the contest was that Boobilee had promised the judges a marathon sex orgy with the blonde boob wonder much to Boom boom's surprise and puzzlement. What was even harder - pun intended - for the men milking machine was that when she returned to their hideout after having every orifice of her body stretched out to the limit by multiple giant dicks - two or three at the same time - she was immediately jumped by her horny team members who couldn't wait to tie her up in a soundproof room so nobody could hear her scream at the top of her lungs while the guys took turns tag - teaming Boom Boom.
Even Deadpool ( introduced by Rob Liefeld together with Domino and Gideon in issue 98 of NEW MUTANTS ) commented that Boom Boom's big DD boom booms were the reason Cable secretly installed surveillance cameras in the girl's shower so that he could record her soaping up her pornstar body. Just for security reasons of course in case the girls are attacked by the bad guys while taking a shower and to make sure he didn't miss anything her spent hours watching and rewatching the tapes.
Soon after that he started taking her on secret undercover missions to infiltrate the Hellfire Club that he kept secret from the rest of the team.

During the mission Boom Boom had to accompany Cable to have a chance to get into the inner circle by joining the swinger club sessions since you are required to bring your own blow up sex doll to the party and who can resist a mega busty ultimate men - milking - machine like Boom Boom ?

Much to the chagrin of Samuel Guthrie a.k.a. Cannonball who had been cannonballing Boom Boom's Playmate Of The Year body at that time putting her to the penetration sensation test day and night. During the day he was training her in the danger room to be a valuable member of the team and during the night he was dicktaming Boom Boom in the bedroom with his huge member to be his own personal blow up sex doll.

But over time the training sessions during the day turned into make out sessions and then full on sex marathons so that the other team members re - christened the danger room as the " Boom Boom Room " and the new motto was " if the Boom Boom Room is rocking don't come a - knocking ".

Back to Rob Liefeld you may ask yourself why he was so successful if his art was so bad. There are a lot of arguments that the anatomy was off or that he wasn't very good at drawing feet. But you can't deny that there is a dynamism to his artwork that was lacking from a lot of the more skilled artists out there. That paired with a huge manga influence - which could be found in most of the iMAGE founders art and was not as prevalent as it is Today - and over the top 90s aesthetics ( big muscles, big boobs, big guns and lots of pouches ) made the comicbooks just so exciting to read.
And I think that was one of the reasons that Rob Liefeld was maligned for such a long time. Not because he was a bad artist. Sadly there have always been bad artists making comicbooks and there always will be.
The crux was that Rob Liefeld was so successful in spite of being a bad artist or even because of it. There are two kind of artists who break the rules : those that know the rules and deliberately break them because they want to achieve a certain effect and those who break them because they don't know any better. And I always had the impression Rob Liefeld falls into the second category. At least at the beginning of his career.
Which was at DC Comics where he drew a HAWK & DOVE series which my brother read so I was somewhat familiar with his early artwork. And that is all we are going to talk about Rob Liefeld because there are naturally a few videos about him in the pop culture trivia / cult siren section and I don't want to simply repeat what will be explained in these videos. So I am wrapping up my robservations and let his artwork speak for itself.

Since we are on the subject of female wrestlers I want to pay a short tribute to the late Ashley Massaro who made her debut by winning the 250,000 $ 2005 RAW Diva Search thanks to her stunning 36C - 24 - 32 measurements beating out cheerleader Layla El and Elizabeth Mikloski.
Ashley was never the most successful WWE Diva or the best female wrestler but she was still a great athlete with incredible muscle control, she had a lot of fans, she always was in a good mood and always made a great show. And not only because of her very skimpy wrestling outfits.
On top of that she won the first ever Bra And Panties Gauntlet match as the last diva standing still wearing her clothes and to please her fans she removed them herself before making her exit. I am also sure she won a lot of points when she stripped Kristal, Michelle McCool and Jillian Hall in a Fatal Four - Way Bra And Panties match at the Great American Bash.
Before getting into wrestling Ashley was a very successful model who was Miss Hawaiian Tropic USA in 2002 and Miss Hawaiian Tropic in August 2004 and posed nude for PLAYBOY in 2003, 2004 and 2007 ( the first two times under the name of Mackenzie Ryan ) which helped her gain a lot of fans.
It has really been too long since I last mentioned my favourite iMPACT knockout, canadian pro wrestler, wrestling valet, model and actress of korean descent born for porn blow up sex doll Gail Kim - Irvine even if yours truly has already written six cult siren posts on " Die Geile Kim ".
GEIL, GEILER, OBERAFFENGEIL, NOTGEIL, AM GEILSTEN, DIE GAILE KIMGail has been in a lot of different wrestling leagues and the first time I saw her was in the old ECW. She then went to the WWF before arriving at iMPACT WRESTLING and for a while she did double duty at the WWE and IMPACT WRESTLING and at the moment she is officially retired from wrestling. At least I saw her give a farewell speech but in wrestling these career ends never last long. Except for those wrestlers you really want to come back. So maybe Gail Kim has really said goodbye to wrestling.
As long as she gives her opponents a taste of " defeet " I didn´t care. I know I was not supposed to like her but her tight body just distracts me, like when she ambushed Velvet and her boobs almost fell out of her top.
Or when she uses her legs to choke her opponent while the ref counts.
Just check out Gail´s incredible glutes. Now if these cheeks don´t get your heart pumping faster you're either gay or dead so check your pulse.
I don´t know what it is about them but asian girls are my kryptonite !
And I don´t want to resort to racial stereotypes but they just have the extra oomph that works better than viagra and makes you hear " Me so horny me love you long time ! " in your head. Gail Kim is a very gifted athlete - and I mean that without any pun - but when I see how worked up she gets in the ring, the fire in her eyes when she plays the heel or the kind of punishment her body can take and how crazy flexible she is.
I mean which red blooded potent male doesn´t want to see Gail Kim as a naughty school girl, in a wet t - shirt or wearing her ass in a tiny thong ?
Now the name " Gail " sounds like " geil " the german word for horny.

We come to a video from a channel that should have appeared in my YouTube suggestions way earlier if you keep in mind how obsessed I am with bigbreasted sexbombs - especially when they look like Power Girl - since the channel has been active for two years. I have selected blonde 44M ( OMG !!! ) - 28 - 36 adult movie star / Score magazine cover model Barbie Nicole ( now that is a Barbie movie I would watch ) who not only has the giant - sized XXL melons to believably portray Boom Boom in an x - rated movie but even looks like she was drawn by Rob Liefeld himself.
You wouldn't even have to look very hard in X - Men lore to find a story that would be apt for that kind of movie since you have villain Omega Red who is not very picky where he sticks his tentacles so it would be only a small step to have him " check out " the more promising female students of The Charles Xavier Institute For Gifted Youngsters so Mister Sinister could do crazy " survival of the fittest sexperiments " with them.
