Now you are probably wondering how a month can start on the 29th but the thing is as I am almost two months behind with my posts I am way behind anyway. So while it seems that I am starting the month early I am really late no matter how you look at it. But what is X - MEN MONTH ?
As longtime followers of TALES FROM THE KRYPTONIAN know I seldomly manage to do a post each day. Lately it may look that I am doing more than one post per day but that´s only because I let myself get later and later to put certain posts on certain dates. So next month starts with Arthur Adams birthday and I have already decided to make an all X - MEN post for that. And seeing as we have Marc Silvestri´s birthday at the end of this month I thought : " Why not call April X - MEN MONTH and see how many posts about Marvel´s merry mutant menace I can do that month ? "
Which does not mean that EVERY post will be about the X - Men. One of the things I like to do on the blog is switch things up between posts so things don´t get too repetitive. So I will still try to do the occassional DC Comics or independent comic post between the X - Men post. Or even posts about other Marvel Comics series when it´s fitting. But when I can I will do a post about the X - Men and we will see how far I can go with this.
And while this is my fourth Marc Silvestri post it is actually my first full Marc Silvestri on UNCANNY X - MEN post. My first post about him was in 2014 and it was mainly about issue 230 - which is a Christmas issue - but also about my impressions on his run on UNCANNY X - MEN and why it´s my favorite run. Seriously, this is on the top of my list for ARTIST`S EDITIONS.
My second birthday post for Marc Silvestri was in 2017 and it was about the series he worked on from UNCANNY X - MEN to WOLVERINE and CYBERFORCE and well beyond. Some of his pages for UNCANNY X - MEN were also part of a double feature with John Romita Jr for inker Dan Green´s birthday in 2017. And my last Marc Silvestri birthday post was in 2018 and that was all about his creator owned iMAGE series CYBERFORCE.
So it´s about time for another one especially since I have never made a full on Marc Silvestri UNCANNY X - MEN. Doubly so in light of the fact that I don´t have enough material for another CYBERFORCE post but at least for four more X - MEN posts - and that´s not counting this one. So as usual I tried to strike the delicate balance between putting the best original art in this post and not breaking up individual issues . At least not too much.
What probably won´t surprise blog regulars is that most of the pages in this post tie in to the INFERNO issues or at least to the subplot that lead up to that main event since it is one of my favorite crossovers. I am not sure if it has been translated to german at this point and I remember that I recommended it to one of my german blog readers ( of course he had to get the american issues to read it ) and he was completely flabbergasted how many plot lines and story arcs are resolved in this crescendo. Which is why it always struck me as odd that it hasn´t been published in Germany.
Also as usual you will see a lot of my personal favorites in the pages which means plenty of Colossus, a little bit of Rogue and more ravishing redhead twin magic with Jean Grey and Madelyne Pryor than you can shake a goblin at. Speaking of shaking your giant goblins, with the Goblin Queen Marc Silvestri not only created one of the sexiest costumes in comicbooks but we also can thank him for all the hot Goblin Queen cosplayers. Daiiiiimn !

Since I could not include any birthdays in our last post we have a few days to cover and as usual this means that I get to pick the important ones. We are starting with the 27th of May where Michael York celebrated his 78th birthday. He did the voices of Ares in Justice League Unlimited - which I am currently rewatching - and Count Vertigo in Batman : The Animated Series. He also was in the movie Der Joker with Peter Maffay and Tahnee Welch which has nothing to do with the Batman´s famous archvillain.
Michael also appeared in Tek War : Tek Lab, Sliders, Babylon 5 and the Three Musketeer movies with Tahnee Welch´s Mom, cult siren Raquel.
But most importantly Michael York also appeared in one of my favorite science fiction movies Logan´s Run which readers might have guessed from the various posts I have written about it : a pop culture icon post that covers the movie as well as the various adaptions as a tv series and in comics and speaking of comics I also posted the complete movie adaption by Marvel ( issue 1 / issue 2 / issue 3 / issue 4 / issue 5 / issue 6 / issue 7 ) and for any further information you might need just consult this website .
Now with so many posts about Logan´s Run you might think that I have run out of stuff to post about this science fiction classic but I found a lot of original art from the Marvel Comics series - of course I I finished the post. Which poses a bit of a dilemma because on one side I want to put the material on the blog but I also don´t want to go back to the old posts and include it there because that would feel like cheating. On the other side I would like to put it into a new post but at the moment I don´t have enough for a full on BLACK AND WHITE post. Maybe I can combine it with a full black and white Logan´s Run story from Bizarre Adventures I found.
You can find more celebrity birthdays from March the 27th in this Gil Kane Marvel Comics cover post and two birthdays from March the 28th in my belated Brian Bolland birthday post from 2017 which brings us to Today´s anniversaries. And we are keeping the science fiction vibe going with Christopher Lambert who turns 63. He really knows how to pick his jobs because he has been on a few classic cult movies like Highlander ( there can be only one - and there is only one since the sequels don´t exist for me ), The Hunted ( one of my favorite white guy caught in ninjas vs samurai BS movies of all times ), Fortress or Mortal Kombat ( he is still the best Lord Raiden ) and Subway by cult director Luc Besson from 1985.
You also can´t fault Christopher´s taste in women because after being married to Diane Lane - who showed her stripper skills in The Big Town - for six years he gave it to the wardrobe malfunction prone queen of explicit nude scenes, french ( in every sense of the word ) blow up sex doll Sophie " Tits Out " Marceau at every chance he got 7 years long.
Longtime readers might recognize her from my very first post of CASTING THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE where I cast Sophie as Catherine Cobert.
The french sexbomb is best known in the US for appearing in the Bond flick THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, and outside for taking her clothes of in such classics like MES NUITS SONT PLUS BELLES QUE VOS JOURS ( my nights are more beautiful than your days ) or DESCENT AUX ENFERS ( Descent into hell ) - where she appeared in nude scenes with Claude Brasseur who played her father in the romantic hit comedies LA BOUM and LA BOUM 2 which caused all kind of outrage at this perceived incest.
Her first nude scene was in HAPPY EASTER with Jean Paul Belmondo which I have to confess to have lying somewhere and still haven´t watched. She was 18 at the time she made the movie and payed the movie studio Gaumont money to get out of her contract to be able to do nude scenes.
What a trooper. In the movie she´s Jean Paul´s lover but when his wife returns a bit early from her vacation she says she´s his daughter from his ex. Sophie also starred in the horror movie NE TE RETOURNE PAS ( don´t turn around ) opposite Monica Bellucci which is like a dream sandwich.
Coming back to Sophie Marceau, not only does she drop her clothes very often she also shows great cleavage like in THE MUSKETEERS REVENGE ( or The daughter of D´Artagnan like it´s called in Germany ) that has one of my favorite scenes with her. D´Artagnan´s daughter ( Sophie Marceau ) is captured by the villain of the movie to be sold off to a brothel, but only " to the sleaziest one where they waste the whores very quick " as she says. The guy who has to sell her bitches starts complaining that at the price he has to get for her he´ll never get rid of her. At which point the bad woman tells him that in this case he should be glad, ripping open Sophie´s shirt and revealing her gorgeous breasts which shuts him up.
I still have not bought THE MUSKETEER`S REVENGE because for some reason it´s only available on DVD in Germany and priced very high. One might think it could be because of the nude scene but most of Sophie´s movies include some and the majority of them are not very expensive.
Writing this section is always a nice reminder of things that I planned to do and still have not been able to do and I really should get some of her movies. There is always so much to do that some things are put on the backburner for too long. One of these days I should get LA BOUM and the sequel to re - watch, once for the nostalgia but also because it has been really a long time since I first saw them and I don´t remember much of it.
I was probably too young to appreciate Sophie´s emerging teenage sexual appeal or more concerned about comics and I had completely forgotten her astonishing impression of Cyd Charise from Singing In The Rain.
Which is my number two favorite musical of all times right behind An American In Paris - which I apparently got mixed up. Anyway one thing that everybody who has been at art college will instantly recognize in An American In Paris is the spot on depiction of female art students in their first semester who visit Paris ( another one for my must - buy movie list ).
But Sophie also had a wardrobe malfunction in Cannes 2005 where her dress slipped off. Some say this accident was faked but what the hey, I don´t care. If she did it on purpose that makes her cool in my book.
On March the 27th we had Pauley Perette´s birthday who plays Abby Sciuto on NCIS, while on March the 29th we not only have Christopher Lambert who was Marcel Janvier on NCIS : Los Angeles but also Marina Sirtis who turned 65 and who played new Mossad boss Orli Elbaz on NCIS.
She also did the voices for Mrs Wheeler, Sandra Stanyon and Queen Bee on Young Justice and Demona, Margot and Ms. Destine on Disney´s Gargoyles but she is of course best known for Star Trek : The Next Generation and the best parts of some episodes were counselor Deanna Troy breathing.
There are even some online rumors - but there´s probably no truth to it - that her role was supposed to be the ship´s telepathic blow up sex doll.
In the first draft Deanna Troy wasn´t the ship´s counselor but rather the " ship´s consolation officer " a orgasmic priestess from the planet Betasex skilled in all known sex techniques to be used by the crew for stress relief.
Because of their telepathic abilities the women from Betasex were ideal prostitutes since they knew every perverted sex fantasy their visitors would not even admit to themselves and they also had a very high pain threshold and were very resilient so their clients could really go for it and hammer their bodies without restraint. Which happened very often when they were working at some mining outpost frequented by sex - starved aliens with dozens of huge reproductive organs or long slimy tentacles.
Anyway, that´s just a silly rumor and there´s probably nothing to it. I mean the whole concept would never have passed american tv censors.
What is strange is the fact that for someone who is just supposed to give people advice she wore a pretty sexed up outfit that would totally defeat the purpose of counseling. All her male customers would be thinking about ripping her uniform off and banging her brains out and knowing it would be really uncomfortable. I guess the reason why they only made her kind of telephatic was that if she knew what the male crew members were thinking she couldn´t walk ten feet in the Enterprise and would never visit the bar. Speaking about the bar, if her role was to give people sage advice why did Guinan do basically the same ? So while still unverified the idea of Deanna Troi not only as the ship´s cleavage but also the ship´s adult entertainment system does have its merit. On the other side we know that the holo deck was used for the same thing. It´s so confusing.
What I could verify is that in the original draft Deanna Troy was supposed to have three breasts, Tasha Yar had an unhealthy sexual crush on Wesley Crusher and Captain Picard couldn´t help but noticing the ship´s Doctor Beverly Crusher´s natural walk resembles that of a striptease queen. Oy.

As I often say some posts lead to more posts and while I don´t know which X - Men anniversaries are still coming up in April ( it´s much more interesting for me not to look it up ) I can tell you that I have enough material for a post with comic art about the gorgeous Goblin Queen.
William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and now Marina Sirtis, we have had quite a lot of Star Trek birthdays in the last few posts so here is a little musical reminder why we love the series. I have to say with the exception of Star Trek - Discovery I liked almost every incarnation and even Star Trek : Voyager had some good parts like the holographic doctor and Sex with Nine. Although they could have given her a better costume in Star Trek : Picard. I think Jeri Ryan could still have rocked the Borg bodysuit. Or how about a swimsuit, something in the micro bikini realm ? I mean it is the future and everything gets smaller in the future especially the swimsuits.
Today´s science fiction anime is Voltron, Defender of the Universe.
Somehow I never seem to find videos about Louis De Funés around his anniversary but since these videos disappear rather quickly I wanted to put this on the blog as soon as possible. Plus when will you have the time to watch such a long documentary if not now with the corona lockdown ?
