As I stated in that post Lee Elias worked on a lot of different titles for Harvey Comics from such horror titles like BLACK CAT MYSTERY, CHAMBER OF CHILLS, TOMB OF TERROR or WITCHES TALES to war comic series like WARFRONT and romance comics like FIRST LOVE, FIRST ROMANCE, HI - SCHOOL ROMANCE or LOVE PROBLEMS AND ADVICE ILLUSTRATED ( talk about an unnecessarily long title ). Yet for some strange reason these are ignored and everybody ever talks about is his work on the BLACK CAT.
And since I am not somebody who just throws out statements without backing them up here is some original art from the horror books and we will without a doubt cover the other books in a future Lee Elias post.
Keeping with the topic of this post head over to BOING BOING where you can find half a dozen gruesome zombie comicbook covers of yore and BLIMEY ! The Blog of British Comics ! has some wonderful art pages from the british girl comic Spellbound not to be mistaken for the Atlas Comics ( which later became Marvel Comics ) horror anthology of the same name.
I will try to keep the part with the celebrity birthdays short - or at least shorter than with other posts recently - but I still have to mention mi paisano Pascual Ferry who turned 59 on March 24. Not only is he from my home country Spain but he is also one of my favorite artists and I always look for for his name when doing my online comic shopping. But he has an unfortunate hand at electing books as I don´t read much from the current output of the big two and that has not changed. So even if I had the time I don´t think that I would do a new post on him unless I found a mountain of original art. I mean I already did an extensive spotlight post in 2011 which included a recommendation for Andy Diggle´s ( any connection to ARROW´s John Diggle ? ) excellent ADAM STRANGE series Planet Heist as well as my thoughts about two things that didn´t work on his THOR run.
My second post on Pascual Ferry was in 2017 and besides his best covers it features sex bomb Kelly Le Brock who shares the same birthday ( she turned 60 ) and starred in the hit comedy WEIRD SCIENCE which was also the title of one of the classic EC Comics science fiction anthologies Al Williamson worked on. Which will be the topic of an upcoming post.
Besides WEIRD SCIENCE Kelly Le Brock is best known for THE WOMAN IN RED - which was a remake and not as good as the original french movie - but she was also in HARD TO KILL with Steven Seagal back when you could watch Steven Seagal movies. What I don´t know is if Kelly Le Brock had to grant Steven Seagal sexual favors like some of his other female co - stars.

Coming back to Kelly Le Brock and WEIRD SCIENCE I don´t think the plot of the movie is based on an actual story in the comic of the same name - or any of the other publications by EC Comics - because in those stories people who get the perfect woman - there are several that go in that direction - never have tried to use her to score with another woman.
I mean, why go through all the trouble of creating a perfect woman in the first place when you are then trying to get it on with another woman ? If that is what you want then you have to come up with a plan to woo that woman from the start and not put so much time and effort into making a perfect woman that you are just going to ignore except in ways that help you win this other woman. Who is not the perfect woman by any means.
What I do kind of get is that the whole thing with trying to score with the other girls is initially started by the woman those two guys create because she sees where the train is heading and she has no desire to become their blow up doll. So she sets them on another path to keep them occupied ( also they probably didn´t measure up ) and because she gets hornier than an alley cat in heat she does it with the whole sports class or whatever the scene where she appears as the new coach is supposed to mean.
One last thing about WEIRD SCIENCE : while I didn´t care much for the movie I have to acknowledge that without it there would have not been a tv show and I was a big fan of that. We are staying in Germany with author, actor, comedian and Kabarettist Mathias Richling who turned 67. Yep, some people are still surprised that humor and comedy has such a long history in german culture but while stand up comedy is a more recent thing here the poignant political comedy of Kabarett goes back till the 1900 with Karl Valentin. So while the world may not see the germans as a particularly funny nation there has always been somebody who was poking fun of authority. Coming back to Mathias Richling, Today he is best known for his imitations of Donald Trump, Angela Merkel or Edmund Stoiber but I still remember him as the tv addicted Dauerfernseher in the Abendschau ( Nicht nur für Hirsche ).
Normally I try to avoid having two music videos in one post but I just have to pay homage to the great Peret. Especially since I couldn´t return to Spain otherwise. Germany had Heino, Amerika had Elvis but we had Peret and while I haven´t seen many of his movies I always watch them when they are on spanish tv because besides the incredible rumba music score it´s like traveling back in time, walking the streets I walked a s a kid.
This is a good point to end the celebrity birthday part of the post but you can find more awesome anniversaries from March the 24th in that second Pasqual Ferry post I linked to at the beginning of this section. There are still a few categories I have to cross off from my usual list and we start with the first part of how EC Comics MAD became a magazine. By the way, since when does DC Comics own MAD ? How come nobody ever told me ?
Speaking of bloodsuckers, here is the documentary In Search Of Dracula from 1974 starring Christopher Lee that explores the legend of vampires.
No, I didn´t plan it this way but History Of Comics On Film´s review of Dracula : Sovereign of the Damned really DOES start with Nena´s 99 Red Balloons. Anyway, it was the first animated Marvel Comics film and the video points out all the crazy parts that were taken directly from Marv Wolfman, Gene Colan and Tom Palmer´s iconic The Tomb Of Dracula series.
