Some Spider - Man for your ears and eyes

These posts really keep on coming without pause even if I shouldn´t be spending so much time on the internet on the days I´m not working. And to top it all of I really thought I had written my last Spider - Man post.

But like always I just have to mention this on the blog. Man, I really didn´t want to do another post so soon after my last one. Especially since it will take my ultralong post about SPIDER - MAN : ENDS OF THE EARTH from the front page.

It really took me almost a week to finish that and now it will be just gone. But that´s life. So, anyway, since I mentioned in my last Spider - Man post that I think Dan Slott´s Ends of the Earth might be the last good Spidey story for the next years it´s time to take a look back at all the great Spidey stories of the last decades.

Now most of my readers know, what a great fan I am of such classic stories like FEARFUL SYMETRY - KRAVEN´S LAST HUNT, THE DEATH OF JEAN DeWOLF or - probably the most famous one - THE DEATH OF GWEN STACY. But don´t be afraid, I´m not going into another one of my rants.

The reason why I mention it is that on ComicGeek Speak ( which I´m sure you all follow religiously since it´s on my blogroll ) there is a Spotlight series about Spider - Man that´s almost finished. As usual the discussions are in - depth, extremely informative and totally hilarious. I guess you have to take it with humor if characters like Aunt May keep coming back from the dead. Okay, the second reason why I wanted to do this post - yeah, it would be a bit measly to just put up these few liks - is that in one of the podcasts Power Records are mentioned. For those who don´t know anything about them ( like I didn´t ) way back in the 70s there were some records released by a company called Power Records which were based on comics like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman but they also did tv series like Kojak, Star Trek or The Six Billion Dollar Man . And of course they did some based on Marvel comics.

One of those, and it´s mentioned in the podcast, was SPIDER - MAN : THE MARK OF THE MAN - WOLF which was of course an adaption of AMAZING SPIDER - MAN issues 124 and 125. As you can see it was a two piece set which included the recording and a comicbook.

I did some research and there really is a Power Records homepage that has an entry about The Mark of the Man - Wolf where you can see all the pages of the comics. Which comes in handy for all those who don´t own the issue, but they are really too small to read them properly. So if you have the issues you might want to get them. The downside is that there is no audio on the post but I found another website and you can listen to the audio here. Man, I remember reading the german version of the issues and I just loved them. I mean, Spidey and a werewolf ? How could you possibly top that ?

Well, you can also watch the thing via YouTube because somebody apparently made a video out of it.



Now as fate or the internet gods would have it in the audioplay certain parts were cut to bring two issues of Amazing Spider - Man down to 15 minutes. If you watch the video above you will see that they skip over the splash page - probably because splash pages only work visually - but on fellow blog DIVERSIONS OF THE GROOVY KIND posted it this Friday. No kidding, we didn´t coordinate our posts but in his latest post entitled MAKING A SPLASH : MARVEL COMICS 40 YEARS AGO, JUNE 1973 the second splash page is from Amazing Spider - Man 124, The Mark of the Man - Wolf. Which means that the man - wolf story was first published exactly 40 years ago. That´s weird.

Another strange coincidence is that just Yesterday I finished reading my copy of SAL BUSCEMA - COMICS FAST & FURIOUS ARTIST and in the art section there is the reproduction of another Power Records combo pack, this time CAPTAIN AMERICA - AND A PHOENIX SHALL ARISE.

It´s an adaption of CAPTAIN AMERICA 168 featuring the Falcon. There also is a post where you can read the pages on the power Records blog and you can get the audio here . And here´s the video.



The third Marvel audio by Power Records I could find is MAN - THING : NIGHT OF THE LAUGHING DEAD. You can find comic pages, the YouTube videos and the mp3 audio on SFFaudio´s entry on Power Records . 

Now if you are more a fan of the Distinguished Competition COMICS ON THE RADIO has the complete audio for the Batman record from 1975 and there are lots of Superman record audios on THE SUPERMAN HOMEPAGE .

If you remember those records from your youth you might get a kick out of hearing them again and if you haven´t heard them already you definitely should. And there are just dozens of other strange records that can be seen on the blog so be sure to check that out. Oy, that´s so 80s.

And of course there are also lots of videos on YouTube about those recordings like this one about Planet of the Apes. I have seen at least three of the movies adapted.



Man, I can´t understand those people who say they only find crap on YouTube. I always find such incredible gems on the site. I guess it really is one of those cases where you only find what you are looking for.

IT`S THAT OLD SPIDER - FEELING OF DEJA VUE AGAIN

Since it´s only a few days old I haven´t have had the time to compile many pictures for the section of classic comic cover homages but one of the most used covers is of course the one where Peter Parker quits being Spider - Man with the costume in the trashcan ( which I think is pretty fitting since I technically also quit Spider - Man, at least the new issues ). He did that numerous times so here´s a selection of variations on a theme. Of course this is not complete and if you know some covers I missed please send me a comment.

So that´s all for Today and in our next post we will finally talk about NEMI unless something more important comes up.

Since this post is pretty Marvel - centric ( a thing that I don´t expect to happen very often in the future unless I´ ll be talking about some olden Marvel funnybooks ) Todays video is the intro for the new Marvel Online game. I have heard from reliable sources that the game pretty much sucks but the intro is great.

Two for the price of one

Yes, that´s right Today I´m doing two posts. That´s the good news. This one isn´t about GRATIS COMIC TAG 2011 either. That´s the bad news.


And it´s not really about comics either. But it´s the one I initially wanted to write before I realized that Today is Betty Brosmer´s birthday. Now that one may not have been comic related at first sight but I´m sure that, being the most famous pin up girl of the 50s, Betty inspired a lot of comic artists from that time. I mean, doesn´t this cover of her remind you of some of the girls Frank Frazetta or Dave Stevens draw ?


You will have to wait a bit longer to get some free comics like I will have to wait till I can get my hands on some comics from FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2011. As I have already mentioned the comicshop where I have my subscription has moved and it seems that they haven´t unpacked the box with the FREE COMIC BOOK DAY comics. All the ones I have so far I got from an onlineshop and at the moment I´m waiting on an order that will - hopefully - contain a few more. But that´s the topic for a future post anyway.

So, this post is mostly for my german readers to announce 2 things. The first one is about ZETTGEIST the podcast from german indy publishers ZWERCHFELL VERLAG about movies, books, games, tv shows, food, zombies ( a whole lot of zombies ! ) - and every 50 shows about comics.


Which was one of the main reasons that I didn´t listen to it on a regular basis since they were very often talking about movies ( mainly zombie movies ) that I haven´t seen since I don´t go to the movies that often anymore. The last two movies I have seen in a theather were THOR and GREEN LANTERN and while both movies weren´t as bad as I feared the whole moviegoing experience hasn´t spiked the urge to go to the cinema more often in the future.

As somebody who has to be very selective which movies I watch in the cinema because of my tight budget I find it strange what reasosn other people seem to have for going to the movies. The least of all seems to be to watch a movie, some don´t understand the whole concept of movies having their own sound and thus not needing comments from the audience and for some it seems the perfect place to be rude to people hoping to start some fights.


No wonder audiences are shrinking in Germany and they will continue to shrink unless the owner of the movie theaters do something about it. Because with today´s technologies nobody really NEEDS to watch a movie in the theater. But back to Zettgeist.

Starting with Zettgeist 152 it´s not longer going to be an audio podcast but a live video podcast. The first new episode shows our three main contributors Naomi Fern, Stefan Dinter and Sasha Thau at their workplace talking about stuff. The video quality is not HD but I don´t think that is the ultimate goal. Since lately too much time has gone in editing the audio podcasts this is a try to make the shows more uncut and unfiltered.

You can watch the video via livestream or vimeo and I´m excited to see how this all unfolds.


The other thing is AUFGEZEICHNET TV a new show about comics hosted by Flix that you can watch on their own website or on their youtube channel . Due to the usual restrictions the first episode ( which is all about the Comicfest München ) had to be cut into 9 parts but the shows done very professional. Now that A COMICBOOK ORANGE seems to be on a creative hiatus comic readers need a new comic video show and it looks like AUFGEZEICHNET TV is up to a good start.


The next episode is announced for September the 15th and topics are the AnimagiC 2011 and the Apokalypse in comics and mangas.

Looks like there are going to be more much needed shows to watch for german comicfans.

And speaking about watching shows about comics today there was a show called GESAMMELTES WISSEN : COMICS on ANIXE that is going to be rerun at 00.10 hours. Since it´s one in a series of shows about various hobbies involving collectible things the main focus is on the collector side of things but any comic reader is - in some way or another - a kind of comic collector so there may be some good tips for you. And for all non comic readers ( we really need a better word for comic muggels ) it might be interesting to see how the normal half lives.

So, that´s it for today, short and sweet. I hope my non german speaking readers haven´t been bored too much and for my german readers : you have enough to do right now. No clip at the end of this post as I have already embedded two of them.


Next time : more comics, probably some 70s Marvel references or even - dare I say it - the first part of the GRATIS COMIC TAG comics.

This is how I died, and now it´s all happening again thanks to a temper tantrum by the Young Avengers.

Neil Gaiman appreciating Wednesday

As you can see by the title Today I´m taking a page out of sadly defunct blog COMICS MAKE NO SENSE. Okay, it´s still online but there are no new entries.


Which means that if I start right now and read all the posts I still have to read I´d be like finished in two or three years. I really tried to stay current but it was like I didn´t go to the blog for a week or two and there were already 20 new posts. But enough about that. Wednesday is sometimes called Mittloch in Germany ( Wednesday = Mittwoch in german, Loch = hole ) because it´s this hole in the middle of the week where your performance curve reaches it´s lowest point. Especially if you have such shitty weather like in Germany where it has been raining the last two days.

So, I just watched the DR. WHO episode from the sixth season THE DOCTOR´S WIFE written by none other than Neil Gaiman and I have to say it´s bloody brilliant. As always they got Neil to write the episode because he´s a huge Dr. Who fan. This really seems to be part of the british DNA. You´re born, you´re british, you love Dr. Who. That´s how they get such big stars like Timothy Dalton on the show. And by writing some of the best stuff on television - period.

Now my readers from the United Kingdom have of course already seen it and some of my readers in America may have. To my readers in Germany I say : don´t wait till they show it on tv. They are already 3 seasons behind and seem to have no intention of following up on it.


If you can understand english movies - get it somewhere. Even if it´s only the episode written by Neil Gaiman. I´m not putting any download links for this on the blog - because that can be tricky - but I found them and I´m like a monkey trying to get a Motherbox working by peeing on it when it comes to computer stuff. So you should have no problem with that.

What I want to put on the blog are some other links I have collected Today and I guess at this point I should mention that I´m sure I don´t have to explain who Neil Gaiman is - to most people. If you read comics you know him of course from his groundbreaking SANDMAN series that cemented DC´s Vertigo line as one of THE foremost addresses for intelligent comics for adults or ( if you have only recently begun reading comics ) from his WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CAPED CRUSADER ? story.

If you are more of a book reader you might know one of his bestsellers like AMERICAN GODS, ANANSI BOYS, THE GRAVEYARD BOOK or GOOD OMENS. And if you more of a moviegoer you might know the adaptions of his works like MIRRORMASK, STARDUST, CORALINE or his work on such films like the CGI BEOWOLF where he wrote the screenplay or PRINCESS MONONOKE which he adapted to the english language.


His complete list of work is really much to large to put into this post but whatever he does, he has thousands of fans around the world. Because he´s one of the coolest people on the planet. Period.

I had the distinctive honor of meeting him in person during one of the first International Comic Salons of Erlangen where I first decided to get original sketches from artists. Two years before I had done the rounds for a friend who worked at the Sammlerecke in Nürtingen ( and I think who now is the manager at the Sammlerecke in Koblenz ) and I wanted to get some for myself. To that extend I had bought a little red book with really good paper and I had already gotten a number of sketches.

In hindsight I might have gone for a bigger sketchbook because some artists just don´t put so much effort into small sketches but at that time I didn´t care. I have to say I didn´t know what to expect when I got in line for Neil Gaiman because I didn´t have anything to sign. I guess I halfway expected to just get his autograph but I didn´t care. This was Neil Gaiman we were talking about.

I think I have already told the story of my first visit to a REAL comicstore when ( during my military service with the Deutsche Bundeswehr ) I was stationed in Munich right before Christmas.


We were supposed to get to our new homebase, say hello, put our uniforms in the closet and get back home to celebrate the holidays. Well, I also had a second mission. Back then U - COMIX was still published by the Alpha Verlag and in each issue they had ads from comicshops all over Germany.

So as soon as I knew I was heading to Munich I digged for some old issues of U - COMIX and looked for the direction of comicshops in Munich. I found the address to JÜRGEN´S COMIC SHOP and while most young recruits headed home as fast as possible I went in the exact opposite direction - the city of Munich, through the Victualienmarkt, changing subways at the Münchener Freiheit and asking people on the street till I had finally found the comicshop.

There I bought an entire bag of comics which cost me about 100 Deutsche Mark which was real money. And I don´t only mean a lot but also real money not like the EUROS we have now. So, in the shop I grabbed everything I didn´t know that looked interesting like DOOM PATROL, HELLBLAZER, JUSTICE LEAGUE, ANIMAL MAN, SANDMAN or DR. FATE.


There were actually two SANDMAN issues I considered buying, one was part two or three of THE DOLL HOUSE and the other seemed to be a standalone issue.

Since I didn´t know what THE DOLL HOUSE was and I didn´t want to start in the middle of a storyarc I bought the other issue, which incidentially was issue 8, THE SOUND OF HER WINGS which may be one of the best SANDMAN stories ( or comic stories ) ever written. It´s one of the top stories for comic fans and it was number 2 on Wizard Magazine's " 100 Best Single Issue Comics Since You Were Born " list. In the story Dream´s little sister Death is introduced to the series - as I was to the land of the Dreaming. To say it blew my mind would be an understatement. I had never read something like that and let´s just say that when I got back to Munich after the holidays I spent many hours ( sometimes a bit longer than the official opening hours ) at JÜRGEN´S COMIC SHOP, the comic shop at the subway station or the international press section at the train station at Munich Central scavenging for all issues of SANDMAN I could find.


So, coming back to Erlangen, I was standing in line to get an autograph or just exchange a few words with this brilliant guy who had written this comic I absolutely loved and I probably should mention that this was long before the internet. At that time information about comic creators were very rare and mostly you had no idea how they looked like. So suddenly it was my turn and I stood before a guy who was wearing black leather and looked like a freaking rockstar.

Before I could react he took my little book and asked me who my favorite character from the book was. Of course it was Death and before I realized he began to draw her. Which wouldn´t surprise me Today but at that time I thought artists would only draw and writers would only write. I´m not the only one who was surprised because suddenly the person from the german publisher said : " Oh, Mr. Gaiman, you are not allowed to do drawings, just sign the books we sell here. "

Which is completely in their rights since they have to pay for the artists but it seemed to be news to Neil. He just calmly replied : " Well, I´ve already started so I´m going to finish it. "

Since I hadn´t bought a comic at the table I had to buy something which wasn´t a problem since they were a big publisher and they always have at least one book that´s missing in your collection ( which is one of the perks if you stop buying german comics 3 months before going to Erlangen so you can get all the newest releases there ) but when I got my book back I could just say Thanks and tell Neil how much I liked his comic.


I was so flabbergasted by his coolness and so overwhelmed by the Death picture he did for me that I totally forgot the question I had about the series. There´s one question I have had about the series and it possibly has been answered in the book itself and I just didn´t realize but I still don´t know.

Maybe he would have just told me in which issue this was told or maybe that´s one of the big unanswered questions and I totally blew my chanche to ever find out. And his chance to correct a mistake in SANDMAN lore. In any case from that moment on Neil Gaiman was one of the coolest people on the planet in my book. I fanatically got each issue of SANDMAN, suffering immensly each time an issue was delayed living in constant fear of the series end. If you were reading the series as it came out you might recall that Neil Gaiman first wanted to end it after the storyline that followed THE DOLL HOUSE ( or the one after that ) but then he always came up with another story he had to tell first. This happened a few times till the inevitable wrap - up finally happened in issue 75 and after that I tried to keep up with the further exploits of Mr. Gaiman in tv, movies, comics or novels.

Apart from getting both the graphic novel and the DVD of Coraline for my sister last Christmas I have to say I have been a bit lax in that departement in the last years but thanks to the Doctor Who episode my flame has been re - ignited.


I already ordered two of his novels I have been missing and I´m thinking about doing a post on the various adaptions of his original novel Coraline. I hope I can get my readers also excited ( if they are not already big fans ) and maybe one of the following links help.

First up is episode 106 of the Nerdist podcast in which Neil talks about " American Gods, describes scenes that were cut from his Doctor Who episode and doles out PHENOMENAL advice for aspiring writers. Also, an intense spiritual discussion reveals that we are all Hodgman. " Do not, I repeat - DO NOT !!! - listen to this before you´ve watched the Dr. Who episode unless you like to be spoilered.

The episode is also the topic of episode 4 of the Doctor Who Cast as well as GEEKS OF DOOM´s TARDISblend episode 21 that features an interview with Neil Gaiman and sadly has no download links. Listening only here, folks.

AUTHORS ON TOUR has a 57 minutes podcast with Neil Gaiman from January the 23rd 2006 where he does a reading from Anansi Boys and does a quick questions and answers. There are also some excerpts from his audiobook Fragile Things in this short review by Susan Dunman from SF Site. And if you still have a craving for hearing the master himself reading his own work here is a link to videos of him reading the COMPLETE Graveyard Book !

i´m ready for my podcast has another interview with Neil Gaiman from October 27th 2007 about adapting his works to film - I think. I´m not sure, because you almost can´t hear it. Sorry.

THE SCOTTISH BOOK TRUST has an interview with Neil Gaiman about The Graveyard Book from 2008 and the differences between writing for adults and children, how he first came up with the idea of The Graveyard Book and which type of undead he would most like to be.


JUST ONE MORE BOOK has a 12 minute podcast interview with Neil Gaiman fresh of winning the Newbery award for The Graveyard Book from January 27th 2009 in which he talks about about blogging, giving his books away for free on the internet and twittering.

He also talks about The Graveyard Book and the Coraline movie on this interview on SFFaudio.

national public radio´s TALK OF THE NATION has various shows with Mr. Gaiman : one about his SANDMAN series , one about his recent BATMAN story " Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader ? " and one about Children´s Fantasy Literature in the modern world where he´s joined by Christopher Paolini ( 22 year old author of the Eragon series, who got his first book published at the age of 15 ) and Tamora Pierce ( author of a series of fantasy books for teenagers, including the Circle of Magic Quartet - her latest book is Trickster's Queen ). I may have already posted his interview about The Best American Comics 2010 a book he edited, but I´m pretty sure I haven´t posted the show where he asks : heard any good books lately ? which is all about the future of audiobooks that comes with a full transcript. There´s also a show about Neil Gaiman winning the Newberry Award for The Graveyard Book that has excerpts from the book and one about the movie adaption of STARDUST that has no download link and is audio only.


And speaking about ( once again ) audio only that´s also true for his 12 minute interview with Earl Merkel on RED ROOM and his 3 part interview together with Amanda Palmer on Kevin Smith´s SMODCAST.

And of course I couldn´t finish this post without adding the direction for Neil Gaiman´s blog just in case I might have forgotten it. I´m putting it in the permanent blog roll as well as the link for Comic Zone Radio , a link I have been looking for a while but I somehow always forgot. There are no download links and I´m not sure if there are new episodes but it´s worth it for the archive alone that features such big names like Adam Hughes, Bryan Singer, Carmine Infantino, David Carradine, Denny O´Neil, Dwayne McDuffie, Frank Miller, Gene Colan, Harlan Ellison, Jim Shooter, both John Romitas, Mike Grell, Mike Mignola, Neal Adams, Norm Breyfogle, Paul Levitz, Sal Buscema, Stan Lee, Walt Simonson and Will Eisner .

And it was really hard to narrow it down to those 20 names because there are just so many I wanted to mention, like a Who´s Who of comics with writers, editors, artists, inker, collectors, shopowners etc., etc., etc. Back when I started with the whole comic blogging thing and reading about comics on the internet I was often frustrated about all the hating going on but whenever I listened to one or two episodes from COMIC ZONE RADIO I instantly remembered why I fell in love with comics in the first place. And I bet you will do too.


As for Today´s video it can´t be any other as the trailer for Neil Gaiman´s Dr. Who episode THE DOCTOR´S WIFE.

Late-Linking Lad´s excellent adventure

Since Saturday I´ve been trying to post something new but as always other things kept getting in the way. One of the reasons why I wanted to do a post is that there are new links concerning the Legion of Super - Heroes.

The first one is also the newest member in our blog roll. He posted a comment on my last post about the Legion and I asked him if he would be interested in doing a link exchange. Being the gentleman that he is he immediatelly put up the link while it took me a few days to return the favor - as usual. I´m a bit worried that I got listed with all the other Legion blogs since my blog is not only about the Legion. But there is some Legion content coming up in the future.....and I don´t mean it as a pun.....because I have finally read the last issue of LEGION OF THREE WORLDS. And I´m not complaining since that way my blog is on the top of the links. And we all know that the links on the top get checked out first. Which is the reason that all the new links on this blog are always at the top.

GET-A-LIFE BOY´S LEGION OF SUPER - HEROES BLOG is a blog about...well, I don´t know if you could say " everything Legion ". For that I haven´t read enough of it. It does cover all the Legion appearances of the week - with spoiler warnings where necessary - as well as other topics like fixing the Legion chronology, what´s up with the " lad " or " boy " tag in the Legionnaires names or tells you all about the gayest Legion story ever.


Although I don´t know how serious that last one is. In his own words Legion wannabe Get-a-Life Boy comments on the Legion of Super-Heroes: latest appearances, history, drooling-fanboy opinions, and whatever else. So if you have read SUPERMAN AND THE LEGION OF SUPER - HEROES in ACTION COMICS and / or FINAL CRISIS - LEGION OF THREE WORLDS and you want to know more about the Legion this is the right way to start.

And if you haven´t read those stories......what the f-word-ing bleep bleep is wrong with you ? How can you ignore such literary masterworks for base pointless crossover tie-in nonsense crap ? Yes, if you haven´t enough with THE LEGION OF SUBSTITUTE PODCASTERS Legion podcast there is a new Legion podcast called SUPER FUTURE FRIENDS. The podcast is done by Adriana and Kristen who are also artists as you can see when you go to their art blogs - Adriana is showing her skills on VERYVERY ( sorry, tried to do a facsimile of the blog header but it was more difficult than the other one )


as well as on her art blog ( I hope I got that right ) and Kristen on TOP SECRET WORLD ORGANISATION OF LOVE.

Now I have listened to part of one podcast ( god, I just can´t finish anything because I´m megabusy right now ) and so far I couldn´t find anything that sounded inappropriate but that could also mean that either I didn´t listen long enough or I´m just so foul mouthed myself and used to profanities that I don´t notice it anymore. I send them an e - mail about a possible link exchange but so far I haven´t got a response. But I guess I´m not the only one who´s busy. SUBZERO´s favorite comic podcasts

Today my topic is comicpod-casts. There are a lot of them on the web and since I down-loaded the newest episodes today I wanted to write about the sites I normally go to.

The first one on my list is a relative new one and it is the first german comic podcast which is of course in german. There are three episodes available at the moment. The brain behind this podcast is Michael Bloch who is the owner of the comicshop ComicCorner at the main station of Munich under the escalator. I did my military service in Munich and there were three places I would go to buy american comics. Number one was Jürgens Comicshop which was the biggest comic shop I had seen at that time. Whenever we were off duty I would be knee deep in comics searching for hidden treasures till they threw me out - normally because they were 20 minutes past the closing time. The second one was the foreign press section of the newsstand in the main station where they also had american comics but mostly older ones. For example if I was at Jürgens Comicshop they would have the newest issue of FLASH maybe issue 21. And at the newsstand they would have older issues like FLASH 16 and 17. Now if I needed the issues between 17 and 21 I would go to the third comic shop which was a little shop under the escalator. So maybe I have been to the place where the ComicCorner is now.

But I was speaking abut the podcast. The name is Die Comic Kolumne it is entirely in german and the issues so far have been no longer then 30 minutes. In every episode three comics are reviewed : one a classic comic, the second is a brandnew one and the third is a manga. In the second episode ( the first one is just a teaser and only a few minutes short ) the reviewed comics are V wie Vendetta, Die Wellenläufer and Die tollkühnen Abenteuer der Ducks auf hoher See. Episode three is about Sillage, Die Purpurnen and Tränen Warcraft 2 - The Sunwell Trilogy. Especially important is for me that things like the printing quality or the coloring are mentioned. What is strange is that the last episode is from March and I couldn´t find any new podcasts since then.

Wow, that was longer than I expected. Just wanted to do a short mention but when I start on a rant........Okay. The next one I normally go to is Los ComicGeekos a comicpodcast produced in El Salvador for REAL aficionados de comics. It is in spanish so like the first one you should know the language. I like this podcast because it´s always funny although I had to learn the lingo first. In the beginnig I didn´t know what cheras or paquines are. The crew of the comic geekos consists of Ticoman, Britoman, Julius, Rick Escamia, el Sensei via skype ( who is like Charlie of Charlie´s Angels who only participates through an electronic device ) and the lovely Candy Candy ( que si....es buena...persona ). They have various sections like e-mails, a versus of comic charakters, today in the history of comics, comic news or special reviews of comics or certain creators or animes. You can put yourself in their frapper map of world domination and vote for them on podcast alley. Voten, cabrones ! Normally the episodes are one hour long but in special cases they can be a little longer to give enough time to the various subjects. The newest episodes I have seen are about MAZINGER Z the anime everybody knows who grew up in a spanish speaking country. Maybe you already heard of them but if not here´s the link

Next on my list is ComicGeekSpeak which is probably the best known podcast about comics. It`s in englisch and it is currently at episode 132 but it also has the extra episodes of SECOND CHANCE where they develop their own superhero, the BOOK OF THE MONTH episodes which are indepth reviews ( which means they spoiler the hell out of it ) of comic milestones like ANIMAL MAN, TOMB OF DRACULA or THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN MARVEL and much more. The crew of Comic Geek Speak ( who are like the Bizarro version of los comic geekos or vice versa ) are Brian Deemer, Peter Rios, Jamie D, Shane Kelley, Kevin Moyer and Matt. I hope I got the names right because I could only get the first names from the site and had to find out the last names by listening to the episodes. I guess watching all the episodes of CASE CLOSED did pay off. They are podcasting for more then a year now ( I think ) and have already more than 150 episodes which can be up to one hour and a half. On the normal episodes which are mostly spoiler free there are different sections like reading the e-mails or " stump the rios " where basically listeners try to stump Peter Rios the human comic encyclopeidia with a three part question. But I shouldn´t write to much about it just go to their site and listen to the episodes where they have such illustrous guests as MarvWolfman, Gene Colan, Dan Slott or even Stan Lee himself. When I have uploaded all new episodes of there I go to fanboy radio. This is also a very exciting podcast with lots of reviews and interviews and the always funny " sub or flub " section. The hosts are Scott Hinze and Oliver Tull with additionla contributions by Britta Natwig. Fanboy Radio (FbR) is a radio talk show about the comic book industry, its art, creators, and fans. Each week, two hours of comics commentary are highlighted by insider interviews with top creators, news, and live calls from listeners like you. Some of the top names in comics have stopped by the show to talk about their crafts, give their opinions, and offer exclusive news items to FbR listeners. Artists, writers, colorists, letterers, Company Execs, etc, have all found their way onto FbR and it's friendly environment. The world of Indie comics and creators, as well as animation, TV, and film, are also well represented in the FbR show archives. Consistently breaking, celebrating, and poking fun at the geeky FANBOY stereotype is a staple of the show. From the most die hard fan to the newest of the new...all are welcome. Casual... loose... smart... fun... this is not your father's comic talk show! Fanboy Radio broadcasts live from the KTCU studios in Fort Worth, Texas. Fanboy Radio is heard twice a week:Sundays at 6:00pm CST, broadcast LIVE from the Fanboy Studios. During this show, they usually feature Q&A sessions with some of the most important and influential personalities in our field...and Wednesdays at 1:00pm CST, a pre-recorded episode (not a re-run) is broadcast that focuses on the lesser know aspects of the hobby. They have interviews with Keith Giffen, Robert Kirkman and Joe Quesada on their website

Comicology is a podcast produced by Neil Gorman which focuses more on independet comics. There are of course many reviews about mainstream comics but there is a wide range of indie comics you can hear about on this show. Not that there are no indie comics on the other shows I mentioned. But you probably already know the site at Comicology

Another comic podcast is MEANWHILE by T Campbell and David Belmore and the show is basically the two talking about anything and everything related to comics. Recent topics have included V For Vendetta, the sexual harrassment suit that's got the comics community up in arms, and comics encyclopedias. T Campbell is not the former artist of Danger Girls who has changed his name and appearance to take on the idendity of an unsuspecting radio host. And here is a link to the main page

I have to admit I haven´t listened to the last episodes of Comic News Insider but only because they are way ahead of what I read. So I have to wait two or three months till I can listen to the next show without fear of spoilers. The site is at

I read comics is a comicpodcast with a different viewpoint or as it says on the website : Comic talk from a real live girl. Comic books, graphic novels, animation – all things comic and cartoony, with your host Lene Taylor. Think of it as the New York Review of Comics. For me it´s sometimes weird to listen to a podcast that while complaining about how women are drawn ( or how her boobs are drawn ) goes on for minutes telling me how wonderful japanese gay hardcore mangas are. That´s the part I usually fast forward but to each his own. So if you don´t know the show it´s worth listening to and you can get the episodes here

Now there are two more shows I have to mention. The first one is NOT a podcast but you can listen to it on the web. The ComicZone is a radio show at World Talk Radio with a wide array of interview guests or better said the who is who of comics. The host is Vincent Zurzulo and they have a new show on their site every week. This is the first comic radio show I listened to and I´m a big fan ( I even have borrowed their motto on a few occasions : It´s all about peace, love and comic books ! ) you can find all the shows on the archive page

The last one is not a comic podcast either. It´s Red Jazz Radio a podcast about jazz music. You can find the link to their website in my link section and normally I listen to the episodes while surfing or writing things like this webblog. They feature a lot of music by the artists themselves and they always tell you where to get the music because not all of it is available in stores. Because the main focus is the music you can fully enjoy the songs without somebody talking over them. I´m not a jazz afficionado but I know what I like and the mix of the show hosted by Cory Scribner ( I hope I got the name right ) seems to hit the nail so far.

And that´s all for today. The post has gotten longer than I thought so I didn´t get to post some interesting links I found while searching for podcasts. They will be the topic of the next post if I don´t get the last comics I ordered tomorrow. I´m going to proof read the post tomorrow since I´m really tired now and the computer starts to behave strangely. I hope I can get three and a half hours of sleep before I have to go to the job agency tomorrow.
