Titans tussle Thursday with the Sinister Six

You probably didn't expect to get another Spider - Man so quick after the last one but while watching the video from Comic Pop about Erik Larsen's REVENGE OF THE SINISTER SIX six part story in the adjective - less SPIDER - MAN title which I originally included in the bonus section of our latest post I remembered how much fun I had reading this. And that I never did a proper post for Erik Larsen's run on SPIDER - MAN and AMAZING SPIDER - MAN . Also since I am currently suffering a mild case of writers block in regards to that post I have decided to remedy that situation right away.

Now longtime followers of the blog know that I don't like to make two Marvel Comic posts in a row and two about the same character even less unless we have a part 1 / part 2 situation. Granted, our last post was a part two but about a different run on a Spider - Man title. Nevertheless I don't think I can get rid of my writers block without addressing these stories so let's just do it and we'll see where that path will lead us to.

To give newer comicbook readers a little background information, Today Erik Larsen is best known as the creator, writer, penciler, inker, whatever of his creator owned series SAVAGE DRAGON. I think he is the only iMage founder who still works on the first book he published there and while it does not sell big numbers like other hit series it seems to sell modestly enough that Erik Larsen will be doing that for the foreseeable future.

I think he is currently coming up on issue 275 which is not that bad for an independent comicbook. Naturally I don't have to explain SAVAGE DRAGON to my blog regulars since I am constantly pimping that book and all others can check out my old SAVAGE DRAGON posts through the links in the text and the " Best Of The Best " links at the bottom of each post.

SAVAGE DRAGON might also be one of the reasons why I never got around to make an Erik Larsen SPIDER - MAN spotlight. Back to giving possible comicbook newbies a bit of history in regards to Erik Larsen, he had done some work for Marvel Comics like a Hulk vs Thor story in THE MIGHTY THOR 385 ( inked by Vince Coletta ) or a Superman story in ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN 431 but I think before he started doing AMAZING SPIDER - MAN the longest he was on a title was his run on DC's THE DOOM PATROL.

Which is one of the few omnibus books I bought after coming to Spain since I never had many of the original single issues. My brother was a big fan of this series and had a lot of issues in the spanish version of a trade.

And when I say the spanish version of a trade I mean that the comicbook publishers here in Spain are too big of a cheapskates to reprint the single issues in a nice new trade paperback. No, what they do is take leftover single issues and glue them together with a cardboard wraparound cover.

And I am not talking about a thick and sturdy board. No, the cheapest that you can take without the issues falling out that's what they took. It was a bit reminiscent of the good old Taschenbuecher from Condor Verlag. Although they had a thicker cardboard than the spanish trades.

Anyway, it is nice to have all of the issues - and a few from other books that crossed over - in one sturdy hardcover and I can only recommend it to any fans of Erik Larsen or the Doom Patrol. Back to AMAZING SPIDER - MAN, Erik Larsen took over penciling reigns when Todd McFarlane left to jumpstart the newly created adjective - less SPIDER - MAN and he stayed on the title until issue 350. Of which we will also have some issues in this since I decided to include all the material I could find from REVENGE OF THE SINISTER SIX and the proceeding story RETURN OF THE SINISTER SIX .
