You're either NEXUS or against us ! Monday

Friends, we have another long overdue spotlight post for one of the undisputed masters of the ninth art - how the french like to call it - with the man himself, the myth, the legend that is Steve " The Dude " Rude.

Yes, long before the Cohen Brothers and Jeff Bridges popularized this moniker there was a guy who was known in comic fandom as The Dude.

As usual this post started while doing clean up duty for another post since my longtime followers known that I try to avoid posting stuff on the blog that I already included in previous posts. That doesn't always work out because there is a lot of ye olde copy / paste schtick involved when I write these posts - especially in the bonus section otherwise it would take me even longer to finish these posts - but I try. So when I came across a lot of original art pages from HERITAGE AUCTIONS ( a shoutout for always providing such fine art ) by Steve Rude I naturally went over my old posts to avoid posting something that I already did.

Well, as it turns out I never did make a full Steve Rude post which may have had something to do with the fact that when I first mentioned him - at least the first time that I could find - the news was that Steve was definitely leaving comicbooks behind. That put a really big dampener on any future posts and I am not quite sure what the situation is right now.

There was a documentary about Steve Rude where it seemed like he was not long for this world but there have been some projects lately and it seems he is working again. My faithful readers out there might correct me if I'm wrong but he has several things in the works at the moment and besides releasing sketchbooks on a semi annual basis he is working again on what many - me included - consider his grand opus NEXUS. But this time converting it from the comicbook format to newspaper strips.

Which will be interesting to say the least. In any way, seeing as I haven't do a Steve Rude spotlight post before and the fact that I desperately need more comicbook content besides the big two on the blog I have decided to start with everybody's favourite space age executioner Nexus.

We are changing things up with the next part of the Forgotten TV Shows and this one is all about action / adventure and when they say " action " they are talking about my favourite kind of action in the " big boobs in tiny bikinis bouncing action " way. So it will probably not surprise any of my longtime followers that I have not forgotten these five shows and I have included all of them in at least one post. Starting off with the tv shows involving a lot of bikini clad sexbombs we have 90s wannabe Baywatch clone Acapulco H.E.A.T. which Subzero watched religiously.

Especially the main eye candy of the show, PLAYBOY's Playmate Of The Month Of October in 1990 british 36C - 24 - 34 bra - busting Busenwunder Alison Armitage a.k.a. Brittany York made me watch more episodes than was healthy and I never understood why she didn´t get more screen time than blonde 34C - 23 - 33 beach body Catherine Oxenberg. I mean, the producers had to pay her anyway and to just have her in a few short bits in most of the episodes must have been a huge waste of money. Maybe I am naiive but to me that sounds like you got two weapons - a pointed stick and a gun - and always use the stick when the gun would be easier.

If it was me after a few times I´d say f - word the stick and go for the gun right away. But that is probably a thing that is done because it has always been done ta certain way and therefore nobody questions this.

Yes, I am fond of what others consider the trashy side of pop culture.

Make no mistake, Thunder In Paradise definitely falls into that category.

Compared to this Acapulco H.E.A.T. is like Shakespeare although like all good ( or is that bad ? ) shows from the 90s it includes a certain amount of hot bikini babes which they go to great lengths to make the viewers aware of them as they put it right in the intro of the very first episode.

Well, I think it´s the first episode. I didn´t have the time to go through all videos of Thunder In Paradies on YouTube so I bookmarked the three longest one that have the best quality and this is the last one of them.

By the way, the brunette sebomb in the yellow bikini looks a bit like PLAYBOY's  Playmate Of The Month Of April in 1986 Teri Weigel ( and you can read more about her and the other incredible blow up sex dolls who guest - starred in the iconic 80s sitcom MARRIED WITH CHILDREN in my recent FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH THE BUNDYS spotlight post ) before her 40E boob job. Can anybody out there confirm or deny that´s Teri ?

As for why there are so many random bikini babes in shows like these, the bikini babes serve two purposes ( and I´m saying this without any double meaning ) : the first one is to keep the male audience who was clearly the main target hooked. A famous crime fiction writer once said that if things get too boring you send in two guys with machine guns.

The same principle works with televison shows, dudes and bikini babes.

The second purpose is to get an actor of the calibre of a Patrick Macnee with a serious pedigree on a show like this and to keep him interested.

Some people may scoff at this but including a lot of hot women in a show does wonders for the morale. If you don´t believe that ask yourself : if you had the same job but were surrounded by hot women in swimsuits would you not be happier at the end of the day ? Now one of the things I noticed is how colorful everything was back then. The comics were like that and definitely the tv shows. And you may say that I ncluded this for the hot bikini babes but that´s not it. If you are looking for intellectually stimulating stories portrayed by the greatest actors America has to offer you will be disappointed. But if you want to see a highly entertaining show with tons of wrestlers guest starring from their heyday and cheap special effects you have come to the right place. This show was done by the guys from Baywatch and Hulk Hogan quit the WWF to film the series.

He met with Eric Bishop and after the show's end he went to the WCW.

Staying on the subject of busty bikini babes on Thunder In Paradise , it took me quite a while to mention the show on the blog because I just could not find the special episode I was looking for on YouTube. Or rather the episode with this hot bouncing action prone beachbombing bimbo.

As usual I came across this episode while I was looking for Playboy clips of Jacqueline Sheen ( which I ended up not using ). It is episode three of the first season ( or episode four if you count the pilot movie as two episodes ) called Sea Quentin and I think Sting guest stars. The wrestler.

Not the singer. Anyway, according to her imdb sheet the sexbomb in the red dotted bikini with the integrated bouncing action appeared in six additional Thunder In Paradise episodes and her name is Heidi Mark.

She was PLAYBOY's Playmate Of The Month in July of 1995, appeared on Baywatch , Silk Stalkings and episodes of Married With Children.

Now Tales Of The Gold Monkey is a tv show I have never heard of before I started working on this blog so I can't tell you much about it but my oyeescuchas can find an intro to the series from Ayer Nomas as well as the first episode of the show in the spanish dubbing in the bonus section of part two of my spotlight on Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness' RED HULK.

With Relic Hunter on the other hand your boy has a little bit of a history.

Or is that HERstory now ? Anyway, my faithful longtime blog followers might remember that I mentioned hawaiian 40D - 24 - 35 hottie Tia Carrere in my very first birthday post / cult siren entry for natural born stripper JaMILF Lee Curtis way back in 2011 because Tia Carrere played femme fatale Juno Skinner ( although the sexbomb who owes her exotic looks to her spanish, chinese and fillipini descent didn't show much skin herself ) in True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger that is best known - amongst other things - for Jamie Lee Curtis boner inducing striptease.

JaMILF Lee Curtis quickly became famous for her impressive set of lungs as one of Hollywood´s best scream queens in movies like Halloween.

She later became quite literal famous for her impressive set of lungs as her boobs busted out and she quickly got the nickname " freezeframe " because her hot scenes in movies like Trading Places or Perfect became the most paused on the vcr thanks to her 34C - 22 - 34 measurements.

Today she´s best known for her incredibly hot striptease in True Lies, the best striptease in movie history - at least according to a poll from 2007.

Which is all the more impressive if you keep in mind that Jamie Lee Curtis was 36 at the time. So she did her best movie scene when her body was in remarkable shape - she exercised every day for this - and I cannot even begin to imagine how epic it would have been if she hadn´t kept on her underwear and gone full monty frontal nudity in the movie.

Because James Cameron had seen her in A Fish Called Wanda and wrote the role of Helen Trasker specifically to see her naked porn star body.

GET A GRIP ON JAMILF LEE´S COCONUTS / THE TAMER OF PANAMA !

JaMILF Lee Curtis has always spurred the sexual imagination of her on screen partners like with old horn dog Pierce Brosnan who got more than a good handful of her massive milkshakes when he squeezed her perfect puppies in The Tailor of PanamaThe scene was not in the original script but Pierce just couldn´t let an opportunity to fondle Jamie´s juicy juggs pass and so he manhandled her titanic 38C twin torpedoes in every take.

After two days of shooting the scene Jamie´s mouthwatering XXL melons were so sensitive from Pierce´s constant massage that she climaxed with the slightest touch. So she agreed to let Pierce use her as his personal blow up sex doll for the remainder of the shooting if he stopped botching the takes and then the director decided to leave the scene in the movie.

Coming back to Tia Carrere and Relic Hunter, while the initial idea of the show - making an Indiana Jones style tv series but having the lead character who is an archaeologist be a hot sexbomb like Tia Carrere - was nothing short of brilliant the execution left much to be desired.

While Tia Carrere did her best, wearing some sexy and skimpy outfits and showing a lot of skin those scenes did not work as well as planned.

And it's not Tia Carrere's fault because in other roles - like her part in High School High which is the only reason to watch that movie - she is just oozing with sex appeal which is practically dripping off the screen.

Take the first episode of Relic Hunter for example, the first scene in which we see the lead character of Sidney Fox she is performing a tribal dance for her students wearing a pretty exciting outfit. But any sexual tension that might come up is quickly dashed as she throws a spear at the new guy which is her new assistant who will become her sidekick in the following adventures. A scene that could have been very erotic is turned into a cheap joke and the audience is as shocked as poor Nigel.

As a comparison let's take a scene from Baywatch - Hawaiian Wedding where natural born 36E ( !!! ) - 23 - 34 go go dancer Carmen Electra is performing a sexy dance in a coconut bra - this one is also a tribal dance - which serves as Lanie McKenzie's introduction to one of the characters who will have a romantic connection with her and the viewers unfamiliar with Baywatch as well as a re - introduction for veteran Baywatch fans.

In this case the scene is not interrupted or turned into a cheap joke, the sexual tension is off the charts and Carmen Electra's erotic dance alone is worth the price of admission . Over the decades Baywatch has gotten a lot of flack and been scorned for going the easy way of just providing cheap fan service with dozens of incredible bikini sexbombs but as this example - and the failing of other shows that tried to copy their formula like Acapulco H.E.A.T. or Thunder In Paradise - shows it's not that easy.

Coming back to Relic Hunter, while they had a big plus with an exotic actress who even had appeared naked in the pages of PLAYBOY magazine the show flopped and I guess the final nail in the coffin was that at the end of the day the scripts were not that good. Well, that and Sidney's assistant / girlie man Nigel, the americans always have an inferiority complex when it comes to people from Britain and the writers are no exception. So they didn´t have the cojones to make an english man cool ( one of the reasons why Mike Meyers did the Austin Powers movies ).

Last but not least there is also a comicbook connection I have to mention since Tia Carrere appeared in the episode On A Dead Man´s Chest from the Tales From The Crypt tv show ( episode 3 of season 4 ) based on the story of the same title by Johnny Craig from Haunt Of Fear issue twelve.

Rounding out our five " forgotten " action adventure tv shows we have Riptide ( called A Trio With Four Fists in Germany and Pier 56 in Spain ) of which I have seen quite a lot of episodes but so far I have only included one episode in my latest SURPRISE SPIDER - GIRL SUNDAY post spotlighting - again - this brilliant series by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz.

Longtime readers already know this but since it may be new to first time visitors : I am a big fan of Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz. Especially when they work together like in their THOR run that followed on the heels of Walter Simonson´s epic revitalization of the title. Because they came in right after one of the best THOR runs ever a lot of people skipped their issues and dismiss them which may be one reason why I like it so much.

I know it borders on sacrilege but for me it is a guilty pleasure I rate even above the Walter Simonson THOR run . And in fact when I had to get rid of my comicbook collection I had no problem selling my two Artist´s Editions of Walter Simonon´s THOR but I just couldn´t get with the idea to sell all of my issues of the Tom DeFalco / Ron Frenz THOR run.

Tom DeFalco also wrote MC2 titles like AVENGERS NEXT, JUGGERNAUT 2, AMERICAN DREAMER, FANTASTIC FIVE, Wolverine and Psylocke´s daughter WILD THING, LAST HERO STANDING and LAST PLANET STANDING but I never did a spotlight post on them. There is however another MC2 title, the best known one SPIDERGIRL and I wrote two posts about the book in 2017 since he teamed up with Ron Frenz again and another one in 2022 .

Speaking of Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz teaming up on spider - books they also did a lengthy run on AMAZING SPIDER - MAN when I started to get into reading american comicbooks and was still buying all my issues at the international press newsstand in Stuttgart. So I wrote two tribute posts to that and especially in homage to the platin blonde mercenary Silver Sable who for me is one of the most criminally underused female characters in Spider - Man history. Thankfully she had a big part in the Assassin Nation Plot storyline during Todd McFarlane´s run on the title .

Which brings us to their collaboration on THOR and Eric Masterson, about whom I wrote four posts. The first one back in 2014 in which we covered everything from THOR 383 - which was the first issue of Tom DeFalco and a SECRET WARS tie in - up to Thor´s epic battle with the Celestials and Captain America ( Back then wearing the red and white costume that would become the U.S. Agent´s uniform and going by the name The Captain. And you can read about his fights with Iron Man in my Bob Layton Iron Man spotlight posts ) lifting Mjolnir for the very first time.

I wrote my second Eric Masterson post in 2015 in which we continued our journey making a jump to THOR 430 covering the broad strokes of THE SOUL SHROUD SAGA. My readers had to wait for my third Eric Masterson post until 2017 but for that they were rewarded with the full issue 433 which is the first outing of Eric Masterson as the official new Thor. There is also my Mark Texeira GHOST RIDER tribute post from 2014 in which I wrote about how I had stopped reading THOR and started again because of THOR 430 which was the second part of a story that guest - starred Ghost Rider and led right into THE SOUL SHROUD SAGA. Apropos, I have finally managed to start the series in 2022 but now that my complete archive is stuck in limbo I have no idea when - and if - I can continue it.

Which is why my newest THORSDAY WITH RON FRENZ post focuses mainly on original art pages that predate this era. Tom DeFalco also wrote one of my favourite FANTASTIC FOUR runs with the great late Paul Ryan and I finally got to do my first FANTASTIC FOUR FRIDAY WITH PAUL RYAN post .

There are also two Ron Frenz posts with the nice pictures he posts on facebook and the second one is an all - Thor post that includes original art from his THOR issues. Last but not least I also did two posts about the work he did for Marvel Comics Distinguished Competition namely the famous Zap Superman and the SUPERMAN RED SUPERMAN BLUE storyline.

Okay, back to Riptide. This is one of those shows where I really thought everybody knew it but according to this list it is a " forgotten " tv show.

I'm not so sure about that since it has not only been in syndication for a long time in Germany it is also still in reruns on the odd tv channel. One thing I think we can all agree upon is that you see the show differently once you reach a certain age. When you watch it as a child or even a teenager the heroes of the show are clearly Nick the pilot and Cody the beard while Murray Bozinsky is the annoying sidekick and comedic relief.

As it could not be any other way when you are young because the other two protagonists are the virile, potent studs who can handle themselves in a fight and get things done. But when you watch it with a certain amount of years it is clearly Murray Bozinzky who is the secret hero.

For one, there would be no show without him. Yes, the other two could have opened the Riptide detective agency without him but I don't think they would have been as successful since a lot of cases are only resolved - or at least resolved that much faster - thanks to Murray's inventions.

On top of that it was Murray's idea to open the agency and if I remember correctly he is bankrolling the whole shinding with the money from his inventions. Which is another reason why Murray is the MVP of the show.

With his brilliant mind he could have gone to any tech company and earn a lot of money coming up with new tech for the man and getting filthy rich in the process. Instead he decided it would benefit mankind more if he used his tech savvy to help his two best friends in their job - which is helping other people who have problems. Yes, he's not the cool guy and maybe he is not a ladies man ( he does have a few relations with those women willing to look beyond the superficial and get to know the real Murray ) or an action hero but on the other hand he does not have to be.

He knows he's nerdy ( which back in the day was not a big chick magnet ), awkward and a weird scientist but he is also honest, brave, loyal to a fault and when things get rough he always does the right thing. Going into business with two friends instead of getting rich churning out the newest version of windows 99 is not an easy decision and in the cases he often has to take a backseat because he is not a fighter. But he always comes in clutch with the right idea, a new lead, a new invention or just good old chuzpe to crack a case. Now as far as bikini girls are involved in Riptide besides a female reporter that did them dirty and who appeared in a form fitting t - shirt I don't recall any of the top of my hat and the only one I know about is brunette 36B - 24 - 33 Seaquest bra - buster Rosalind Allen ( since I wrote about her in my Irv Novick spotlight post ).

The reason why it took me so long to write about this series is that I did not have any full episodes I could post but just recently I found some in the german and spanish dubbing of a high enough quality. What's more, somebody uploaded original episodes in high quality - including the one with Rosalind Allen in a bikini - so we may have more Riptide content in the future. I also found the Rosalind Allen episode - episode three ( or four depending on if you count the pilot episode as one or two episodes ) from the first season called Somebody Is Killing The Great Geeks Of America - with the spanish dubbing but since the spanish episodes I found have the wrong format ( I hate it when they stretch out the tv picture to fit modern tv screens ) I have decided to include a german episode. Sadly the episode with Rosalind Allen in the german dubbing is blocked from being included in websites so you can only watch it on YouTube so we are going with episode six from the first season Mean Green Love Machine since it also features a hot sexbomb in a bikini.
