But before we come to that I have to make a rectification. In said Mike Mignola I mentioned the first post I did about his AVENGERS run in 2017 but I must be getting old or I am already suffering from Alzheimer´s since I totally blanked on the fact that I did the second part of that last year .
Okay, in my defense I have to say that I only checked the old posts until the 28th of September ( since that is the date of my newest post, a spotlight on Bob Layton´s run on IRON MAN and ARMOR WARS ) and I did last year´s Kurt Busiek tribute post on the 4th of October. Which is funny since I am also writing this - or at least this part of the post - on October the 4th. Now you might be scratching your head how I can be writing this on the 4th of October when it´s dated on the 15th of September. To let you take a peek behind the curtain, these birthday posts are dated on the last birthday they contain but that doesn´t mean that I can finish them on that day. In fact this is the last post I am finishing which is how I already know what is in the next few posts. The downside is that it can get very confusing for my readers but the upside is that I can include some last minute comicbook stuff which I could not have included otherwise.
Which brings us to Today´s AVENGERS pages. After two days of searching the internet for more original art pages as well as the corresponding color pages there are a few original art pages I had to throw out because they were too small because the scan resolution was too low or where they were scanned in wrong and the lines are all blurry. But I still had the color pages so I want to include them here as well as some other leftover pages from issue 3 which I covered in last year´s Kurt Busiek AVENGERS post.
Speaking of leftover pages, the second and bigger part of last year´s Kurt Busiek birthday post was about issue 14 of the series but because it´s a spotlight post about the Scarlet Witch ( who is the daughter of Magneto no matter what some people may try to sell you ) I had to leave a few pages out. It´s from the team´s fight against Pagan but since I found two sets of black and white pages - one with just the art and the second one with the text and word balloons added - I wanted to include them here.
But before you think I´m just using this part of the post as a cheap way to put more George Perez artwork on the blog ( although is there such a thing as too much George Perez artwork ? ) as I said in this and previous posts George didn´t do all the art on this tremendous run. It´s true, he did the heavy lifting on the three years he was on the title. During which he showed all the young punks how it´s done because he did 12 issues each year of his three year tenure on the title. Okay, technically speaking there were some years where he only did 11 issues but at least one of those was double sized so he did the same amount of pages as if he had done 12 issues. And those were not rushed issues, each issue had a gazillion of characters ( especially the first three issues which included everyone who had ever been an Avenger ), crazy perspectives that would overwhelm even the most seasoned pros and super detailed backgrounds.
Nevertheless there were some helping hands, pinch hitting in a jam during his time on AVENGERS namely Jerry Ordway , Stuart Immonen and the late Paul Ryan . And after the first three years of Kurt Busiek´s run we had such great artists like Steve Epting , Kieron Dwyer and most importantly ( at least for me ) Alan Davis who did another tour de force. For the life of me I can´t understand why the guys at Disney don´t make sure he is on a top notch title. At least he seems to be getting steady work from Jim Starlin on his INFINITE INFINITY AD IMNFINITUM series of graphic novels.
Kurt Busiek´s AVENGERS run has been collected two times already and longtime readers might remember that I pimped the hardcovers which are currently out of print but some of them are still available through well assorted comic shops like my regular haunt, the Sammlerecke in Esslingen.
Way back when I first urged comic afficionados to invest in the hardcovers I speculated that the reason why Marvel didn´t reprint them was Disney found out they were selling them way too cheap. And as if I was psychic, the price for the new reprinted trades is almost EXACTLY what you paid for the hardcovers. I think with the exception of the fifth volume which is 5 bucks more expensive than the trade. Man, I am so glad I tracked them all down after I found volume 3 at half price in Erlangen. I don´t know how many times I have re - read those issues and I just love to have them in these hardbound volumes. They may be reprinted again in the future but probably in omnibus form. And while I already have more than 20 of those ( who would have thunk, with the prices they often go for ? ) the smaller hardcovers are easier to hold and even with the huge discounts one can sometimes find at amazon paying 33 bucks is easier than coughing up 65.
As I have almost used up my comicbook art quota for this post I can only say : read this run no matter if you find the hardcovers, the trades or have to dive into the back issue bins. THIS is what the Avengers are supposed to be and if you only know the movies this will give you an idea why comic fans cringed so much over the last output of movies from Disney. Another thing that really hits home is what an interesting and emotionally engaging character Carol Danvers is before SJWs turned her into the Carol Manvers Captain Marvel. I am leaving you with the complete wraparound cover for the first issue of DIE RÄCHER from Panini Germany by George featuring a truckload of Avengers. Since Kurt Busiek also wrote IRON MAN at that time ( with Sean Chen on the art duties ) they put both series into one book.
Now it´s time for the part you have all been waiting for and to keep things from going overboard I have selected just two birthdays of Today.
First we have cult director Oliver Stone who turned 73. He is best known for his movies about political topics like Born On The Fourth Of July, Nixon, The Day Reagan Was Shot or JFK but he also did more action oriented movies like Natural Born Killers, The Corruptor or Blue Steel with sexbomb Jamilf Lee Curtis - which is the main reason why I wanted to include him. I tried to find a GIF of Jamie Lee Curtis from one of those movies but most I found are from her incredibly hot striptease in True Lies which is not surprising to anyone as it´s one of the best in movie history .

A lot of other actresses auditioned for the role and while I could definitely see Demi Moore in that part ( who is the number one in my Top Movie Stripteases thanks to her spectacular performance in Striptease ) or even Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeiffer, Geena Davis, Rosanna Arquette, Madonna, Jennifer Jason Leigh and possibly Lea Thompson or Sharon Stone I thank God that it wasn´t given to Emma Thompson, Melanie Griffith, Debra Winger, Anette Benning or Joan Cusak.
But Jamie was not always a sex symbol and started out in horror movies like Halloween and The Fog ( which also starred cult siren Adrienne Bareau about whom you can read more in this brand new spin - off post ) where she quickly became very famous for her impressive set of lungs as one of Hollywood´s premiere scream queens. As usual it was a stroke of luck ( no pun intended ) that I stumbled upon this clip because what I was really looking for was an episode from the Goof Troop cartoon with Debbie Goof. Years ago I was zapping through the channels and came upon an episode from that show starring Max Goof´s hot cousin. My brother always says channel zapping is a waste of time ( because he´s a control freak and you can´t control the tv program ) but you can´t know what´s on every channel all the time. Plus, they do sometimes change the program without notice so some of the best things that are shown on tv I discovered through zapping through the channels.
Now despite my vivid recollection of this episode I could not find any information about Debbie ( it took me years to even come across her name for instance which made the search for info that much more difficult ) in the imdb or wikipedia page of the show and I was ready to believe I had only imagined her or that it must have been on some other show. Which kind of happens more and more lately. I would see episodes of tv shows or entire movies in my dreams only to find upon waking that they never existed. Well, thanks to a few pictures on DeviantArt and other sites I found out that her name is indeed Debbie Goof and while looking for episodes with her I came across a video that explains why there is so little information on her : apparently she only appeared in one episode which is insane because she clearly had a lot of star potential.
Anyway, the video with Debbie Goof in turn led me to the furry girl profile of Panthy which then led me to the masterpiece of animation that is Noah´s Arc. Just what I needed : another obscure movie to hunt down.
Since we are on the subject of sexy female cartoon characters I want to include another of those popular top ten videos. Although I have to take issue with the title because there is nothing surprising with a few of the girls on this list as being sexy is basically part of their job description. Also I would veto picking the boring ( and annoying with her constant attempts to educate the audience ) She - Ra over tittilating Teela and the pretty much useless Daphne over super intelligent Velma. Who was like the team´s google before there even was such a thing as google. I swear, in Scooby - Doo´s Legion of Super - Heroes she´s the Brainiac 5 of the group.
Coming back to comicbooks, originally I wanted to include a regular issue from Kurt Busiek and George Perez run on AVENGERS to show off a bit more of that georgeous art ( I can literally hear my readers going : " Stop telling us which videos you didn´t include and just get to it, dammit ! " ) but then I came across this video that reminded me of a cool thing Marvel Comics did in the 90s before it was bought by Disney. Yep, that is right.
This iconic, brilliant watershed run that was like the parting of the clouds after an endless night of the soul came out in the 90s, one of the worst decades of comics. Now you might argue that it came at the tail end of the 90s - starting in February of 1998 to be exact - but it was still the 90s.
Anyway, back then the guys at Marvel Comics still remembered that their customers were people who were actually buying their comics and since they had a limited amount of disposable income instead of the super expensive artist´s editions that they put out Today they made these Rough Cut issues of the entire first numbers of some of their new series and you could see the complete art - although in reduced form of an issue.
I don´t know how many of these Marvel Comics made but I remember buying this issue plus the ones for Mark Waid and Ron Garney´s Captain America : Sentinel Of Liberty and Dan Jurgens and John Romita Jr.´s Thor.
Now the reason why I am mentioning this at all is that the Rough Cut issue is included in the first hardcover but I don´t think it´s in the paperback.
So if you needed another reason to go looking for the hard to find hardcovers instead of the trades just take a gander at the video below.
People sometimes accuse me of living too much in the past to which I always say : " I don´t live in the past. I´m just one of the few who still remembers it. " I have never understood why some people try their best to forget their past or erase it like they are embarrassed they were young and naiive and liked things that are not hip Today. As Doctor Who said : " We all change, when you think about it, we´re all different people; all through our lives, and that´s okay, that´s good, you´ve got to keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. "
Why does is sound that much more profound when the Doctor says it ?
Anyway, to disparage these ideas - and because I already posted Go Go Dancer ( which was produced by Prince and was so raunchy that it was only shown after midnight ) here is a newer one called I Like It Loud.
Of course as shown in five PLAYBOY pictorials Carmen´s real forte are the live performances and sorry, but I could not find it in a better resolution.
Time to go back to the comicbook side of the post and since we gave George Perez his due it´s only fair that we do the same for Kurt Busiek. And for that we go all the way back to his first really big splash in the pond that is the comic industry with the Marvels series, his groundbreaking collaboration with Alex Ross. Which also came out in the 90s. Just saying.
Seeing as this is a pretty long post but also will be one of the only posts in a long while I want to stretch the video quota a bit more than usual and include a new video with my future wife Jair , this time not from Teens React but from her own channel to which I linked in a previous post.

I found out about this movie from The Nostalgia Critic and for those who want to know more about this masterpiece that has been lost for the longest time - in big part due to it inspiring Disney´s Aladdin which in turn caused Disney to buy and then destroy the movie through a badly cut release - you can read more about it on the YouTube page or on wikipedia.
Jamie Lee Curtis Perfect was not the only movie that tried to cash in on the aerobic craze that was sweeping the world although it was one of the more classy ones. On the other side of the spectrum we had trashy movies like Aerobicide a.k.a. Killer Workout which I probably saw before Perfect.
Longtime readers know that one of my pet pevees on this blog is celebrating all the brave actresses who turn insufferable dreck into bearable entertainment by taking their clothes off or at least show what their Mama gave them and who don´t get enough recognition for that .
I know that Busenwunder Dianne Copeland ( who thankfully has an albeit much too brief bikini scene ) plays Debbie but does anybody know the name of the busty blow up sex doll in the blue outfit ?
