A Mod Squad Monday with Wonder Woman !

For the past two days I have been going through my archive to put all the pictures in the right folder I found while looking for more pictures of Android 18 ( or Android Ab 18 like I like to call her which is a little joke my german readers will find hilarious without a doubt ) for the bonus section of my SCOOBY APOCALYPSE post and I realized that I had already prepared all the necessary material for a post I haven't gotten around to.

Regular blog visitors will remember that in my last Wonder Woman post - which I wrote on July the 4th 2023 - I mentioned that one period ( no pun intended ) I was planning to cover was Wonder Woman's so - called Mod Squad Era but at that time I didn't have enough material for a full blown spotlight. Well, it seems that I found more than enough in the meantime and since this year is slowly winding down I wanted to do this post while I still can. For newer blog readers, with Wonder Woman I have covered the run by the late great Gene Colan - in our last post - I have covered the Don Heck era, the Power Records Wonder Woman comicbook by Rich Buckler and even Wonder Woman's famous ( or infamous because your mileage may vary ) skin - tight hooker costume phase by William Messner - Loebs and Mike Deodato . So we might as well do this phase.

I have already covered this in the previously mentioned Wonder Woman by Gene Colan post but for those who need a little reminder - or is too lazy to check out my old post - the cliff notes are : DC Comics decides to give Wonder Woman a commercial boost by changing her status quo so Wonder Woman looses her powers, quits the Justice League of America, gets trained in martial arts by asian master I - Ching, becomes a super spy, opens a boutique as a front and Steve Trevor gets killed off - panel.

Just a brilliant idea with a terrific execution from start to finish and you might wonder why it didn't stick. Now all joking and sarcasm aside, while it may not have been the best idea to rob one of the few feminist icons in comicbooks of her powers ( the feminists from that time surely were not happy about that ) or transform her into a chop socking super spy ( which was a palpable idea since that was all the rage in the tv shows from that time ) I really like the original artwork by Mike Sekowsky and Dick Giordano. I have often commented how sometimes the original art looks way better than what ends up on the printed page, especially when they put a lot of colouring on it and this is one of those instances.

Anyway, I think that is enough of an introduction as not having actually read these issues I can't regale you with any funny anecdotes from my sordid misspent youth as I usually do so let's get right to the good part.
