You might think by now I would´ve learned not to start a new post before having finished the last one but I just had to put some of the gorgeous art by the great, late Alfonso Azpiri on the blog because no matter how long it would have been a feature in the post addendum just doesn´t cut it.
Also the quicker I get the main part of a post out the sooner it´s finished.
I thought about back dating this post at the same date like the previous one so I could split up the birthdays but for the sake of keeping it real I´ll leave that as it is. Plus since Today is the birthday of one of my favorite comic artists - Joe Staton - doing the celebrity birthdays should be a walk in the park since I have done a few posts for Joe Staton in the last years.
Another two posts that are on my to do list for 2021 and it´s not even February. Anyway, coming back to Alfonso Azpiri his spotlight post is long overdue even if I can´t use a lot of material because he has worked mainly in the adult oriented market. Or like we in Spain call it comics for guys.
As usual this is my totally random and subjective selection based on what is available, my personal preferences - you will notice I snuck in Dazzler, Slave Leia and Power Girl - and overall look. Because one of the reasons why I wanted to make this post is I really don´t know how well known Alfonso Azpiri is outside of Spain and Europe. He was not only a good girl artist and could literally draw anything. Although making good girl art is difficult enough in itself. In any case here are the pictures I selected.
Well, I couldn´t wrap up this post as quickly as I thought because for once Mike Allred´s birthday is Tomorrow and not Today as I erroneously thought but also while it is Joe Staton´s anniversary ( and we will come to him in a moment ) it seems that while I have already written four spotlight posts on him I never did one on his birthday. I have however gone over the celebrity birthdays of Today in a few other posts so I don´t have to start from scratch. Starting our little list of the brave and the boobed I have to thank twins Ashley and Mary - Kate Olsen for bringing mega stacked 36DD - 25 - 34 real life Power Girl Jodie Sweetin to my attention who turns 39.
Five years ago I had no idea who she was since I had not seen that many episodes of Full House but thanks to all the brouhaha about how she puts the fuller part in Fuller House with her 36DDs and parent groups dissing the reboot because of references to sex and drugs - and because of Jodie Sweetin´s überdeveloped chest which is totally inappropriate for family viewing - I am aware of this. Apropos inappropriate boobage, the aforementioned Joe Staton has his 73rd anniversary who was the artist who defined the look of The Green Lantern Corps for me since he drew most stories in Grüne Leuchte by Ehapa. Fun trivia : Green Lantern was one of the only DC titles german publisher Williams Verlag had in it´s repertoire although it was called Grüne Laterne ( it is a word much nearer to the english word Lantern than Leuchte which is still used by comic afficionados from my generation ).
Back to Joe Staton, I started a new series on his work and while the first post was all about Joe Staton´s contribution to the GREEN LANTERN my next ones were about his version of Power Girl - which I had to split into two separate posts, the intro and the main post - since Joe Staton not only drew all of the stories of Power Girl or the Justice Society of America but basically everything on Earth 2. For those who want to check it out I also managed to do a follow - up postwith a lot more Green Lantern art.
Now I couldn´t find a video about Joe Staton´s Green Lantern runs - of any other of his books for that matter - and because I am still hoping to write a spotlight on Grant Morrison´s latest book about Hal Jordan I´m going to my default Green Lantern setting. That´s right. Once again I´m pimping the best Green Lantern mini series out there Green Lantern : Mosaic by Gerard Jones and Cully Hamner. This was one trippy book long before Grant Morrison did his spaced out version of the Green Lantern Corps and sadly the book was canceled - and its ramifications retconned - before its time because it didn´t fit DC Comics plans for the franchise.
As I said before : this series has my utmost recommendation and it should be found easily in dollar bins. Speaking of which, that is probably where my issues will end up now that I have to sell my comicbook collection.

Our last post took a week to finish so I hope I can do this one quicker but the ways things are going right now I probably won´t have as much free time to spend on the laptop. Anyway, one reason why I think this post might get done quicker than my last one is Yesterday was Ann Nocenti´s 64th birthday and longtime readers already know what that means : a lot of gorgeous DAREDEVIL art by one of my favorite artists, John Romita Jr.
Yes, I know that she edited DEFENDERS, FANTASTIC FOUR, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, NEW MUTANTS or UNCANNY X - MEN and wrote titles like CLASSIC X - MEN or LONGSHOT where she co - created the title character together with ArthurAdams ( about which I wrote in this post) but as long as I have some art from her DAREDEVIL run those have to take a back burner.
Which is the reason why that post was more focused on her writing while my post in 2020 was a bit more art - centric. For my newer readers - and those who are too lazy to check out last year´s Ann Nocenti post - here are a few links to my older posts and I guess it all goes back to INFERNO.
INFERNO is one of my favorite Marvel crossovers which is why I started a series going through all of the various titles although I haven´t covered the DAREDEVIL part yet ( part 1 with my initial thoughts and AVENGERS issue 298 / part 2 about how the crossover was never published here in Germany and the forgotten Avenger Gilgamesh which was also my first attempt to write about AVENGERS issue 300 / my second attempt to write about AVENGERS issue 300 / the third and finally successful post about AVENGERS issue 300 ). I hope we can get back to that topic some day.
Speaking of getting back to certain topics, while I haven´t found the time to continue with the INFERNO crossovers last year´s Marc Silvestri´s X - MEN post was almost completely about that storyline and one of the most underrated X - Men sexbombs : Madelyne Pryor a.k.a. the Goblin Queen.
Up to the point that I made a special Goblin Queen spotlight post with more Goblin Queen art and Goblin Queen cosplayers than you can shake a goblin at though the main reason was to spotlight cosplayer Ashlynne Dae.
Yes, there are other cosplayers but if I hadn´t come across Ashlynne Dae´s really mindblowing Goblin Queen cosplay I probably wouldn´t have thought about doing the post. By the way, one of the posts I planned to do in 2020 was a Ashlynne Dae spotlight since naturally I researched her a bit more.
I have already selected the usual 23 pictures for the post and let me tell you it was especially difficult to narrow it down to only 23 of her best and to still keep it safe for work. Anyway, I hope I get to post them very soon.
Ann Nocenti´s DAREDEVIL was also one of the reasons why I bought the MARVEL VISIONARIES - JOHN ROMITA JR hardcover since it includes issue 253, a special Christmas story with the Kingpin. That was another series I started, pimping the MARVEL VISIONARIES hardcover since they were pretty inexpensive back in those days and they contain many key Marvel moments. I wrote a few post with a special attention to which issues in the hardcovers were important - especially for people who only know the Marvel characters from the movies - and while is was on hiatus for a long time I finally got to wrap up the MARVEL VISIONARIES - CHRIS CLAREMONT hardcover in2019 . I hope I can also continue with this series this year.
As for John Romita Jr, I have just written too many posts where he is featured so I´m afraid that you´ll have to use the tag for this one. After all, that´s what it´s there for. Now as I said I have written a lot about this DAREDEVIL run so there is nothing more for me left to say. Which means we can get right to the John Romita Jr - not to forget - AlWilliamson art.
We continue with a birthday from January the 15th and MichaelSchanze who celebrated his 74th return. He became famous in Germany with the children´s television show Eins, Zwei oder Dreiwhich every kid at that time watched religiously so you don´t have to explain him to people of my generation. A few of Garth Ennis´ comicbook series - or like Hollywood calls them : graphic novels - have been adapted as tv shows. Some ( The Boys ) more successful than others ( Preacher ) and coming to cult tv shows we have our next candidate David Chokachi who celebrated his 53rd birthday.

Some episodes were even written by Witchblade creator MarcSilvestri and the show lasted two seasons and was ranked seventh in the Top Ten Basic Cable Dramas for 2002. David is still acting and apparently he is currently involved in doing a screenplay based on the comic series Unit 5.
From tv shows we make our first side trip to music with Sade who turned 62. Her album Promise was the first record I ever bought ( the other one was the soundtrack to ROCKY IV so you know the time frame ) and I remember that when she announced her music career all journalists were going " Oh no, another model who thinks she can sing. " and were blown completely away by how good she was. So never give up on your dreams.

When I started to read american comics the DC universe was brand new thanks to the Crisis onInfinite Earths fallout and I grabbed all the series I didn´t know which included the two fisted combo of Justice League by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis and KevinMaguire and Justice League Europe also by Giffen and Matteis, art by Bart Sears and inks by Pablo Marcos whom I knew from his work on Defenders. I don´t know if it was fate but the very first issue of Justice League Europe I got was issue 4 in which Power Girl, Flash and Animal Man share a hotel room as they go to Bialya on an undercover mission. I re - read the issue a few times and I always wondered if these more human - and more horny in the case of Flash - heroes didn´t spend the dull waiting time in a more adult way.

For those who haven´t seen it here is The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad or like I like to call it Diabolik vs Doctor Who since Sinbad is played by John Phillip Law who portrayed master criminal Diabolik in Danger : Diabolik ( while the videos of Mario Bava´s adaption of Italy´s most famous fumetto have all been deleted you can find a documentary on it in my José Luis García - López birthday post from 2018 and a review of the movie in my Sal Velluto birthday post also from 2018 ) and Sinbad´s nemesis, the evil wizard Koura is played by Tom Baker who portrayed the fourth incarnation of Doctor Who which is the most iconic and the one most people remember fondly.
Now ever since I mentioned all natural 36C - 26 - 36 Jacqueline Collen ( whom you might have seen on other tv shows like Conan, Herculesor Pacific Blue ) who was the best part of the tv show The Adventures Of Sinbad that aired after Hercules : The Legendary Journeys and Xena became such huge successes ( even if she never showed the full potential of her breast features ) in my latest MIKE MIGNOLA APPRECIATION POST ( where you not only can find more HELLBOY pages by Richard Corben but also a plethora of Sindbad related stuff like the Sinbad cartoon that aired when I was a kid, Hanna Barbera´s SINBAD JR AND HIS MAGIC BELT, yet another Sindbad cartoon as well as an episode of THE ADVENTURES OF SINBAD with Bret The Hitman Hart ) I have been swamped with requests.
And while I don´t have any new animated GIFs with thoroughbred horse breeder Jacqueline Collen here is episode 9 of The Adventures Of Sinbad called Double Trouble. Fun fact : The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad was called The Dangerous Adventures Of Sindbad in Germany which is almost the same as the title of the tv show. And yes, in Germany Sinbad is called Sindbad so have a bit of leniency if you see it written in both ways.
Speaking of which, one of the popular cartoons growing up in Germany was Sindbad but so far finding a full episode was impossible, especially in good quality. So when I came across this video I just had to include it.
Part of the appeal of Sinbad is going to strange and exotic place and I will be doing some traveling myself, even though it is not as enjoyable when it is a journey you don´t want to make. Now don´t get me wrong, it´s not so much the destination and more the bad timing and what I leave behind that sours this trip for me. But I guess we all have to take our last journey someday. It´s just that I thought I had more time left. At my age traveling takes a heavy toll and I feel that I won´t be coming back to Germany soon.
Coming back to the big screen, director John Carpenter turned 73 who made such pop culture classics like Halloween, The Thing or Escape From New York with sexbomb Adrienne Barbeau. Besides the comic book movie Swamp Thing from 1982 and Creepshow which was inspired by classic EC horror comics like Tales From The Crypt Adrienne Barbeau was in another cult movie by John Carpenter, The Fog. Adrienne also showed her breast side as the bustier one of the Lamborghini Babes in The Cannonball Run.
But as much as I like to feature these squirtstorm guaranteeing
sweaty skin flick sensations, born - for - porn leg spreading dicktamers, stripper pole polishing professionals and talented tittilating torrid teenage teasers I don´t always have the time, space or even necessary material to feature them properly and have to console myself with re - visiting them on the few occassions where I get to mention them or on their next birthday.
Now if you have seen Cannonball Run you will remember the hot waitress with the extra - large double whoppers in the opening scene whose name is not in the opening credits, in the end credits or on any internet page ( and believe me fella, I´ve looked ). Well, just recently I found a clip with some scenes of Farrah Fawcett from the movie and her scene is also in there. So far I just called her The Busenwunder Waitress but now I can tell you that her real name is Vickie Reigle. Now in Germany Vickie is not really a good name for a woman - just ask german singer Nikki who had to suffer a lot of dirty jokes because of her name ( what rhymes with " Nikki ? " ).
The Fog also had JaMILF Lee Curtis who started her career with another John Carpenter movie : Halloween. Jamie quickly became famous for her impressive set of lungs as one of Hollywood´s scream queens although she later became quite literal famous for her impressive set of lungs as her boobs had busted out and she quickly got the nickname " freezeframe " because her hot scenes in movies like Trading Places or Perfect became the most paused on the vcr thanks to her 34C - 22 - 34 measurements.
Which is all the more impressive if you keep in mind that Jamie Lee Curtis was 36 at the time. So she did her best movie scene when her body was in remarkable shape - she exercised every day for this - and I cannot even begin to imagine how epic it would have been if she hadn´t kept on her underwear and gone full monty frontal nudity. Because James Cameron had seen her in A Fish Called Wanda and wrote the role of Helen Trasker specifically to see her nude body. A lot of other actresses auditioned for the role and while I could definitely see DemiMoore in that part ( whois the numberonein myTop Movie Stripteasesthanks to herspectacularperformance in Striptease ) or even Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeiffer, Geena Davis, Rosanna Arquette, Madonna, Jennifer Jason Leigh and possibly Lea Thompson or Sharon Stone I thank God that it wasn´t given to Emma Thompson, Melanie Griffith, Debra Winger, Anette Benning or Joan Cusak.
Speaking of spectacular GIFs, the reason why I am mentioning Demi Moore - besides the opportunity to feature her - is I wrote a new version of her cult siren entry ( part 1 / part 2 ) with more GIFs of Demi girating her booty than you can shake .... okay, I´m not going to finish the sentence.
Today´s entertainment block leans towards german stuff but I just have to include one of the forgotten heroes of my childhood. In America he is best known as Gobinda from Octopussy but for me and anybody who grew up in Europe during the 70s Kabir Bedi who turned 75 Yesterday will always be The Tiger Of Malaysia. I despair because there are entire generations who have no idea who that is. Back then we had tv series like Sandokan, Arpad The Gypsy or Yao and tv was as cultural diverse as they are Today pretending to be but such shows are of course not politically correct.
Another shoutout goes out to the late Aaliyah Dana Haughton, one of my favorite musicians who left us nearly twenty years ago in August of 2001.
Initially I wanted to include an anniversary of birth from Yesterday in this post even though it´s a sad one. Still I wanted to pay homage to Alfonso Azpiri, one of the grand masters of not only spanish comics or european comics but the art of comics who passed away not that long ago in 2017.
Which wasn´t very easy because there are so many good ones. I think if I hadn´t nixxed anything that might not be safe for work - and there are a lot of those pages since as a european artist Alfonso drew quite a lot of x - rated risky material - I would never had brought it down to that number.
Anyway, the good news is we can enjoy more amazing Alfonso Azpiri art.
Okay, enough with the gloom and doom. Returning to the topic of this post here is The Men Without Fear - Creating Daredevil featuring not only John Romita Jr but all the creators from John Romita Sr. to Kevin Smith.
Speaking of Kevin Smith, you may not believe this but I bookmarked this episode of Inside Of You a few months a go but hung onto it because I knew there was a Daredevil post coming up. By the way, if you haven´t seen the new Jay & Silent Bob movie don´t bother. If you have seen the first two that´s enough. Don´t let this ruin your memories of a classic.
This is a video I wanted to include in my last post but since I mentioned the Legion of Super Heroes here is a clip from one of the best episodes of one of the best and at the same time most underrated cartoon shows. For my generation Ralph Macchio was not the Karate Kid, Val Armorr was.
Unsurprisingly there are no full episodes of Legion of Super Heroes on YouTube so we continue our reviews of cartoon shows based on DC properties with Batman : The Brave And The Bold. Getting this show in german is extremely difficult - and expensive - since the single DVDs only have six episodes at the most and the final season isn´t even available.
Okay, I didn´t manage to finish this post quicker than the last one but if I can wrap the Alfonso Azpiri post Today at least I did two posts in the same time it took me to do one. And that has to be some kind of improvement.
